Threat Beacon

Compact threat icons for tanks and DPS, with Horde or Alliance artwork and optional personal alerts.

Keep the pull in view.

Threat Beacon places compact Horde or Alliance threat icons above visible enemy mobs, helping tanks spot enemies that need attention and DPS recognize when their threat is getting high.

Choose Tank or DPS for each character. New characters start in Tank mode with enemy names and health bars hidden, green shields off, and indicators shown during combat. Your existing choices are preserved when updating.

Tank: see what needs attention

  • Green check: You're tanking this enemy and have the highest threat. Green shields are optional and start hidden.
  • Yellow exclamation: You're still tanking, but another unit has higher threat.
  • Red X: You aren't tanking this enemy. This also includes enemies deliberately held by another tank or pet.

DPS: keep an eye on your threat

  • Yellow warning triangle: High threat while you're not tanking.
  • Red warning diamond: You have aggro.
  • Below-warning icons stay hidden to keep your view clear. You can use the original faction shields instead of the DPS warning symbols.

Optional personal on-screen warnings and sounds call attention to high threat and aggro. Choose text, sound, or both; adjust the tones, text size, position and duration; and preview them outside combat. Warnings are combined across visible enemies, with separate yellow/red sound cooldowns. They do not send party or raid-chat messages.

A missing icon or warning does not confirm safety. Threat information may be unavailable, or an indicator may be hidden by your settings. The icons use the game's reported threat states; forced targets and encounter mechanics can behave differently.

Your display, your way

Click the Threat Beacon logo outside the minimap ring, or type /tb, to open its own settings window. The sidebar organizes options into General, Icons, Enemy names and DPS alerts, with an interactive preview.

  • Choose Horde, Alliance, or Automatic artwork.
  • Adjust each threat-state size and icon height, or use one shared size.
  • Choose icons only, compact enemy names, or Blizzard nameplates.
  • Customize optional name visibility, colors, size and placement.
  • Drag the menu by its title bar. Right-drag the minimap button around the ring outside combat. Both positions are saved.

Role is saved per character; appearance and alert preferences apply across your account. Changes use your existing settings, and native display changes made during combat wait until combat ends. Restart WoW after updating so it discovers the new files and artwork.

Compatibility

Threat Beacon 0.2.0 is a Release for WoW Forever 1.60.1, Classic Era / Season of Discovery 1.15.9, Anniversary / Burning Crusade Classic 2.5.6, and Mists Classic 5.5.4. Classic gameplay has not been tested; feedback from those clients is welcome.

Indicators follow the game's normal enemy nameplate range and apply to PvE enemy NPCs. Tracked friendly NPC labels, such as vendors and quest givers, remain visible in compact displays. No other addon is required.

Feedback

Suggestions and bug reports are welcome in the project comments. For bugs, include your client family, game version, addon version, what happened and any Lua error text. /tb status can help identify your current setup.
