Description

The Great Expedition

One life. One road. One Company.

Hardcore built for a guild

The Great Expedition transforms WoW Classic Hardcore into a structured, self-reliant guild campaign.

Choose a permanent challenge mode, live by the Charter, build a guild-only economy, earn achievements and Tributes, record deaths and close calls, and use integrated survival tools that inform you without playing the game for you.

This is not simply another death tracker or leveling helper. It is a complete framework for guilds and players who want every character, profession, item and decision to matter.

What makes the Expedition different

  • Guild-found progression: trade, mail and pre-60 grouping are restricted to your guild and approved partner guilds.
  • Three permanent challenge modes: choose how strictly third-party addons are restricted.
  • The Exchange: a player-run, gold-free guild market using achievement-backed Tributes.
  • Hardcore safety tools: preparation checks, threat information, connection monitoring, incident records and static dungeon and zone briefings.
  • Exploration without route solving: Quest Ledger shows where supported quests begin and end, but never reveals objectives, routes or navigation arrows.
  • One unified interface: guild systems, achievements, survival tools, maps, combat information and settings share one visual style and control panel.

Start on a fresh character. Your selected mode is permanently bound to that character.

Choose your path

True Challenge

The purist experience.

Only The Great Expedition and Blizzard’s own UI modules may run. Quest Ledger and its map markers are disabled. This mode is intended for players who want to rely on their own knowledge, exploration and judgment.

Hard

Quality-of-life addons are allowed, but route-solving, automation-heavy and real-time instruction addons are restricted.

Common restricted categories include leveling routers, objective-location tools, boss mods, rotation helpers, gathering-route tools, damage meters and threat meters.

Quest Ledger is available, but it never shows quest objectives or routes.

Easy

All third-party addons are permitted.

Until level 60, the character remains an outsider to the Company and cannot participate in normal kin trade, mail or grouping. At level 60, the character is welcomed as kin.

Your chosen mode appears in the guild Expedition roster.

The Charter

Every Expedition character swears to the same foundation:

  • One Life, One Road: death permanently ends that character’s Expedition.
  • The Law of Kin: no ordinary Auction House; pre-60 trade, mail and grouping are limited to kin.
  • Honest Spoils: the addon records how tracked items entered your bags.
  • The Unbroken Vigil: the addon must remain active throughout the character’s journey.
  • The Wayfarer’s Road: survival conditions track Satiety, Hydration, Vigor, Resolve and Strain without granting combat power.

When a character breaks the Charter, its Expedition progress is permanently marked as failed. The addon records and announces the failure, but it does not automatically remove the player from the guild.

The Exchange

The Exchange gives the guild its own player-run economy without ordinary gold trading.

Players earn Tributes through verified achievements and successful consignments. Guild-appointed stewards list items, players bid through a Blizzard-style browser, and the Guild Master reconciles the ledger.

Tribute balances are recomputed from achievement and transaction records rather than trusted as editable totals.

The Exchange includes:

  • Search, rarity and category filters
  • Live validated bids
  • Guild-specific markets
  • Randomized settlement after the minimum listing period
  • Seller provenance records
  • Living-bidder succession when a bidder dies
  • C.O.D. delivery to sustain the guild Vault

Hardcore Safety Suite

The safety suite provides information and records. It never casts spells, uses items, chooses targets or issues rotation instructions.

  • Muster: a manual readiness and class-safety checklist shown only in resting areas.
  • Reprieve: records Close Calls below 10% health and A Date with Lady Death below 5%.
  • Bestiary: verified static threat notes on supported creature tooltips.
  • Lifeline: monitors sustained connection deterioration using a personal latency baseline.
  • Vanguard: static dungeon and raid safety briefings available on entry and through the Codex.
  • Field Kit: a compact panel for vital consumables, durability, bag space, Hearthstone and survival cooldowns.
  • Frontier: static outdoor-zone hazard journals shown on genuine zone entry and stored in the Codex.

Unknown or unsupported dangers remain unlabelled rather than receiving invented warnings.

Quest Ledger

Quest Ledger is available in Hard and Easy modes and disabled completely in True Challenge.

It can show:

  • Available and soon-available quests
  • Accepted quests
  • Quests ready for turn-in
  • Known restrictions and prerequisites
  • Quest-giver and turn-in locations
  • World Map and minimap markers
  • Supported dungeon, raid and outdoor elite quests

It never shows:

  • Objective creatures or items
  • Drop locations
  • Objective areas
  • Suggested routes
  • Navigation arrows
  • Step-by-step instructions
  • Automatic acceptance or completion

Quest Ledger uses the separate TGE Quest Database, which CurseForge installs automatically with the main addon.

Guild and adventure systems

The Expedition also includes:

  • Guild calendar and event sign-ups
  • Guild achievement progression and comparison
  • Death history and map markers
  • Rare sightings and guild map sharing
  • World buff, layer and dungeon-lockout information
  • Trainer and attunement planning
  • Extended character and equipment information
  • Hardcore-tuned nameplates
  • Player and target swing timers
  • Low-health, crowd-control and danger warnings
  • Movable and configurable interface frames
  • A complete in-game Codex

Open the control panel with:

/tge

Open the swing-timer settings with:

/tge tempo

Playing solo

A guild is not required.

A fresh character can run the Expedition alone, but a guildless character is treated as having no kin. Before level 60, outsider trade, mail and group invitations are therefore restricted until the character joins an Expedition guild.

Starting an Expedition guild

Guild founders may use a dedicated owner character whose name begins with Gotge.

Owner characters are excluded from challenge progression so they can gather the gold required to establish the guild, purchase the tabard and prepare the initial steward characters.

The in-game Codex explains:

  • Guild setup
  • Owner characters
  • Partner guilds
  • Steward appointments
  • Exchange administration
  • Character modes
  • Failure rules

Installation

  1. Install The Great Expedition through CurseForge.
  2. CurseForge will also install TGE Quest Database.
  3. Enable both addons for WoW Classic.
  4. Create a fresh character.
  5. Log in, choose your mode and accept the Oath.
  6. Type /tge to configure the interface.

The main Expedition systems continue to function if Quest Ledger is disabled.

v1.6.3 - Strict-mode addon whitelist

Whitelisted !BugGrabber, BugSack and MinimapButtonButton in both True Challenge and Hard Mode.

Whitelisted Questie in Hard Mode only; it remains forbidden in True Challenge.

Added mode-aware and case-insensitive Warden whitelist checks.

Updated the Charter, Codex, first-login mode descriptions, Control Panel and README so the displayed rules match enforcement.

Increased the Codex Charter revision so existing characters are presented with the revised policy.

Final mode policy after today's updates

True Challenge: Blizzard UI modules, The Great Expedition, TGE Quest Database, !BugGrabber, BugSack and MinimapButtonButton are allowed. Questie and other third-party addons are forbidden.

Hard Mode: all True-mode allowances plus optional Questie. Other third-party addons are forbidden.

Easy Mode: third-party addons remain unrestricted.

Guild Owner: administrative characters remain exempt.
