v0.28.1 (2026-10-08)
- Merge pull request #72 from summoncore/polish/friend-facing
Friend-facing polish: quick start, honest status, tidier help - Merge pull request #71 from summoncore/fix/release-readiness
Version 0.28.1: ready for friends - Friend-facing polish: a quick start, an honest status, and tidier help
README: a "For friends" block at the top (install with WowUp, CurseForge or
by hand, what changes for them, keep it updated, /sc errors to Aaron). The
Status table now says what is true: releases exist (v0.22.0 to v0.26.0, and
CurseForge from v0.26.0), synctest passed 103/103 and the automatic checks
passed in the client on 2026-10-06, Zennit's client files summons a caster
without the addon makes, the gag and its lines are recorded, and 0.28.1 has
only run outside the game. Admin-only commands say so in the commands table.
Scenes 9 and 10 were re-voiced (the README said they were not); the hub tab
is Zennit, not Answer; the message list gains K.
TOC Notes no longer say "(v1 in progress)" in every friend's AddOns list.
Help and commands: /sc probe is listed for Zennit and the admin only (anyone
can still run it: the d-chatprobe check needs the friend too); the respond
line no longer offers Zennit a test his account is refused; only Zennit (or
the admin) can edit his secret list, which no longer takes a place twice.
design/playtest.md: the first week has started, and the Index today is voiced.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 noreply@anthropic.com - Version 0.28.1: ready for friends (reset leak, chat noise, Zennit's tab, weeks from the log, BattleTag hashes)
Fixes from the release walkthrough, so friends' first sessions are quiet and
every client agrees on the race.
Resets: only the admin's /sc reset all travels in HELLO now (db.resetAll in
field 5, with the admin's stamp as a 7th field). A player's own reset stays on
their client; an unstamped field 5 from clients before 0.28.1 (which put their
own reset there) is ignored; a client holding nothing from before the reset
takes the mark without a popup. Before, the admin's saved reset made every new
friend see "Aaron asks everyone to reset" at each login, and any friend's own
reset spread the same prompt to everyone.
Chat noise: "Check passed by itself" prints for the admin only. "Sync:
received N new summons" is said once the stream goes quiet (or once a minute),
not every 2 s: a 120-summons backlog gave 20 lines, now 1.
Zennit: closing the Index keeps the answer's card punch and named price. The
silver watcher ignores mail the game says no player sent (canReply false: the
Auction House, the Postmaster); when the client does not say, only people the
Index knows count. Paying owed silver keeps the list bonus it was owed with.
Weeks: no client freezes a week's winner for itself any more (a client that
synced late kept a different season for good). A week's result comes from the
log alone. An answer made after the week closed (start + 7 days + 2 days'
grace), other than paying silver, is refused by sync (Week.LateAnswer), and a
moved answer (Respond.Adopt) keeps a time inside its week. A summons made in
the week that reaches a client late still counts, the same everywhere, and a
week already announced says so when that changes it (Week.Recheck). IsOff
caches its answers until the log changes, so the season takes about 85 ms
over a year of summons (about 2000).
BattleTags: the admin's and Zennit's accounts are known by a hash of their
tag (ST.ADMIN_HASH, ST.ZENNIT_HASH); the tags themselves are no longer in the
addon. The admin's hash is the value older clients work out for the season and
reset stamps, so it stays compatible.
Tests: /sc synctest 116/116 in a headless Lua 5.1 run (new: closed weeks from
the log, resets that travel and that stay, closing keeps the card, the silver
watcher, quiet checks, paying keeps the list bonus); the error-guard test no
longer fails when the tests run twice in a session.

Add Ask mechanism for querying Zennit's client state - /sc ask no longer looks in his bags for anything but the hearthstone
An item question could be misused to go through Zennit's inventory, so
'carries' is gone; his client now refuses it as an unknown question. The
hearthstone and the time he has been logged in stay.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session\_01XjMdh4RQEVyDH1DPaEz6Pn - Version 0.28.0: /sc ask reads Zennit's state on his own client
His client answers by itself (he presses nothing): is his hearthstone in his
bags and ready, how many of an item he carries, how long he has been logged in.
The question goes to the group and the guild as Q; only his client answers,
whispering Y back. He is told who asked and can switch it off with
/sc zennit ask off. No rule uses an answer yet: ST.Ask.Ask(key, arg, callback)
is there for a later challenge or card. Self-test, live checks a-ask, s-ask
and d-ask, README and design notes.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session\_01XjMdh4RQEVyDH1DPaEz6Pn - Park the stranded summons idea: the middle of nowhere, with his hearthstone down
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 noreply@anthropic.com
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session\_01XjMdh4RQEVyDH1DPaEz6Pn - Merge pull request #69 from summoncore/feature/probe-chat
Version 0.27.2: /sc probe chat, can an addon read what Zennit says? - Version 0.27.2: /sc probe chat, can an addon read what Zennit says?
The idea: log what Zennit says in chat after he arrives, as a "what he said"
column in the log (the notebook of season two, made real). Whether it is
possible depends on what this client lets an addon read, so this is the probe
first, and nothing is stored or sent.
/sc probe chat (Probe.lua) listens to say, yell, party and raid chat and to
the events around a summons arriving (CONFIRM_SUMMON, CANCEL_SUMMON,
PLAYER_ENTERING_WORLD, ZONE_CHANGED_NEW_AREA, LOADING_SCREEN_DISABLED), and
prints for each line whether the text and the sender are readable or secret
values, how long the text is, whether it is yours, and combat and instance
state; for each arrival event, how long after the summons prompt it came and
the map. Your own words are printed, other players' never. /sc probe chat
copy opens what it printed in a window; running it again stops it with a
summary. It works on any client, Zennit's included (it is not admin-only).
Also a checklist item (d-chatprobe) in /sc check, the help line and README.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 noreply@anthropic.com - Merge pull request #68 from summoncore/fix/poogs-warlock
Poogs is a warlock, not a goof - Poogs is a warlock, not a goof
The season-two Poogs read as a cartoon: a buck tooth, round eyes and a grey
cap. Redrawn as a warlock: a dark hooded robe lined in rust, two white horns
on the hood, spiked pauldrons, a skull for a belt buckle, a pouch of soul
shards, glowing fel-green eyes and a sly smirk. The Auditor's horn tips under
his hat now belong to the hood.- the poogs symbol in tools/intro/source.html is redrawn
- scene 46 (the hat lifting) and scene 57 (the head under the hat) draw his
hood and horns by hand, to match (WL_HOOD_BACK, WL_HOOD_FRONT) - the textures of the seven scenes that show him are re-rendered, in both
looks: Media/intro_<n>.blp and intro_l<n>.blp for 45 to 48 and 57 to 59 - design/season-two.md describes him as the party's warlock
Season one's "horns" hero in hero() is a plain pictogram and is unchanged.
Restart WoW fully to see it (new textures are not picked up by /reload).

- Merge pull request #67 from summoncore/feature/preview-season
Version 0.27.1: the admin can preview the next season on the Story tab - Version 0.27.1: the admin can preview the next season on the Story tab
Season two cannot be reached from the Story tab until a finale has ended
season one, and nothing in the UI jumps ahead (a stop and start restarts the
same season, and test summons do not count). So the admin has a switch:
/sc preview, or Tools > Testing > PREVIEW NEXT SEASON.
With it on, the Story tab also shows the season after the one in progress as
"PREVIEW SEASON n", as if it had begun: its opening (the one after Zennit's
finale; /sc intro <n>b plays the other) and its chapters, titles shown and
playable, tagged ADMIN, at 0/5 each. The season button cycles back to the
seasons that have really begun. The switch is admin-only, hidden by VIEW AS
PLAYER, and changes nothing in the log.
The Hub self-check also refreshes the Story tab with the preview forced on.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 noreply@anthropic.com - Merge pull request #66 from summoncore/feature/season-two-media
Version 0.27.0: season two, the art and the voice - Version 0.27.0: season two, the art and the voice
Season two ("Zennit and the Audit") is now drawn and narrated.- 26 scenes (34 to 59) drawn in tools/intro/source.html, in both looks
(Media/intro_<n>.blp and intro_l<n>.blp): the Auditor and Poogs as
characters, and props (the over-large hat, a stamp, the bell for audits,
a soul shard). Poogs is the party's "horns" hero; the Auditor's hat covers
his horned cap, and the horn tips show under the brim. - Narration for each scene rendered with the season-one recipe
(tools/intro/narration/voice_34..59) and mixed with the music bed
(Media/intro_<n>.ogg and _voice.ogg). IntroCues.lua has their lengths,
sentences, key phrases and highlight boxes. - The 13 "Index today" lines of season two are recorded: Ledger.LINES with
_2 after each id, found first by storyLine, with clips in Media/ledger. - Season2.lua scenes use their own pictures; a scene is recorded when
IntroCues.lua has a length for it, otherwise it stays typed and silent.
/sc intro check tries the recorded scenes' files.
Tooling: - narration_source.py numbers scenes the way the story does (1-32, then the
Ledger scene at 33, then season two from 34) and reads Season2.lua. - build_audio.ps1 follows those numbers, has the season-two chapter ends, and
hashes the music source with LF endings, so a CRLF checkout no longer sees
every committed mix as stale. - render_intro.ps1 takes season-two scene numbers and -Source, -Work and
-PngOnly, with a profile of its own per work folder so renders can run side
by side.
Not yet seen or heard in the game: restart WoW fully, then /sc intro check,
/sc intro 2a and /sc synctest.
