StatSense

Compares gear and tells you what every stat change actually does for your class and role, from crit and mana to hit caps, armor and set bonuses..

Stop guessing whether that item is an upgrade

The default comparison tooltip tells you +10 Agility, -8 Stamina. StatSense tells you what that means for your class and role:

  • +10 Agility → +20 ranged Attack Power, +0.19% crit, +0.38% dodge, +20 armor (Hunter)
  • +10 Intellect → +150 mana, +0.17% spell crit (Mage), or no benefit if you're a Warrior
  • +86 Armor → physical damage reduction 31.69% → 32.41%
  • +1% Hit → 5% → 6% of the 9% boss cap
  • +40 spell damage → +33 per Frostbolt, +40 per Fireball

…and it ends with a verdict in a unit you already know: Upgrade, +28 Ranged AP equivalent.

Features

Class- and role-aware math

  • Strength, Agility, Intellect and Spirit converted with the correct per-class rates (Attack Power per point, Agility per 1% crit, Intellect per 1% spell crit, Spirit mana regen under the 5-second rule).
  • Role is detected from your talents (melee, ranged, caster, healer, tank) and can be overridden with /ss role.
  • Druid forms: Cat/Bear Attack Power, the Bear Form armor multiplier, and weapon DPS ignored while shapeshifted.
  • Weapon DPS and speed, with class-specific advice: daggers for Backstab, slow two-handers for Seal of Command, slow weapons for Windfury.

Things the default tooltip doesn't tell you

  • Real armor damage-reduction percentages from your current armor (against level 63 enemies for tanks).
  • Hit measured against the melee/ranged (9%) and spell (16%) caps, starting from your current hit.
  • Defense progress toward the 440 crit-immunity cap for tanks.
  • Spell power shown as damage or healing per cast of your actual spells (Frostbolt, Shadow Bolt, Greater Heal, Holy Light, Lightning Bolt…).
  • School damage (+Fire, +Shadow…) checked against the schools you actually cast.
  • Resistances, with the raids they matter in.

Set bonuses

  • Counts the set pieces you already wear, works out which bonuses a swap would gain or lose, and includes them in the numbers.
  • Shows how many more pieces you need for the next bonus.

Accurate, even for uncached items

  • Reads stats from both the tooltip and the game's own stat data, so recipes and items you've never seen before still compare correctly.
  • Armor kits and other enchant lines are counted.

How to use

  • Hover any item. A one-line verdict appears in the tooltip. Hold Alt for the full breakdown.
  • /ss opens the compare window. Shift-click an item to compare it with what you're wearing, or shift-click two items to compare them with each other.
  • /ss [item] or /ss [item1] [item2] works from chat.

Commands

Command What it does
/ss or /statsense Open the compare window
/ss role auto/melee/ranged/caster/healer/tank Override the detected role
/ss tooltip off/summary/alt/always Choose how much the tooltip shows (default: details on Alt)
/ss help List commands

Notes and limits

  • Built for Classic Era / Anniversary (1.15.x), using level-60 conversion values.
  • English (enUS) client only for now. Stats are read from the item tooltip text.
  • Procs, on-use effects and conditional bonuses ("Attack Power when fighting Undead") are listed but not scored.
  • Talents that multiply stats (Blessing of Kings, Heart of the Wild…) aren't applied.
  • The verdict uses rough community stat weights. You can tune them in Data.lua.
