Saga Keeper

Version 0.4.1-beta

An automatic roleplay journal for World of Warcraft. Saga Keeper notices the moments of your adventure (new lands, the people you meet, the quests you complete, the levels you earn) and writes them down as a story told in your character's own voice.

Made for roleplayers on the WoW Forever RP realms, but it works for any character.

What's new in 0.4.1-beta

• 15-minute story journal (on to start): the small things you do along the way (turn-ins, pickups, rare loot, first gathers, crafts, recipes, hunting) are held for 15 minutes and written as one entry for that stretch, so the journal reads like a story, not a tracker. Your name appears once and the numbers stay out of the text. Big moments (levels, deaths, discoveries, dungeons) still write at once. Switch: batched.
• 281 new approved lines for quests, cities, levels, discoveries, dungeons, deaths, travel, hunting, loot, crafting and session closers. Some know the time of day or the zone's climate.
• Reputation: reaching Friendly, Honored, Revered or Exalted gets its own entry.
• Crafts, recipes and skinning: your first craft of an item, each new recipe and first skins get a line.
• Dungeon clears: a run with a boss down closes with a line naming the boss and your group.

What it does

• Begin Your Saga: a short setup that asks for your character's saga name, title, traits, what drives them, a short bio and the tone of the telling (Heroic, Grim or Lighthearted). It then writes Chapter One. In a hurry? "Just log for me" finishes in two clicks.
• Captures story moments automatically: new zones and subzones, quests, first meetings with NPCs, level ups, new spells, profession milestones, reputation, notable loot, deaths (where you fell), dungeons and battlegrounds, travel, who you travel with, screenshots, and a short recap when you log out.
• Reads like a story: everyday moments are gathered into one entry per stretch of play; busy turn-in runs become one line about the work, not a list. Every quest and quest giver is still kept under the entry in the journal and the export.
• Writes in your voice: every entry is built from your tone, the event, and your traits, with an occasional touch of race or class flavour. It avoids repeating itself and now and then remembers earlier moments.
• Your in-character lines, saved: with Saga Voice installed, each in-character line you send is kept as a "Said" entry, with what you typed (Show: Quotes in the journal). Up to 300 per character.
• Your own notes: /saga The wind howled over the ridge. Add tags such as #scene, #character, #place, #dialogue or #shot.
• Journal window: search, filter by zone or type, pin moments, start chapters, and edit or delete your own notes. A note you edited is never rewritten.
• Export: copy your saga as Markdown-style text, or as prose only, to paste into a document, a forum post or a story.
• Milestone chapters: at levels 10, 20, 30… a card with your saga so far and a private chapter line in your chat.
• Pause any time: left-click the minimap wolf. The wolf turns grey and nothing automatic is written until you resume; your own notes still save.
• Ghost wolf minimap button (also in the Addon Compartment): left-click pauses or resumes, Shift-left-click opens your journal, right-click opens Begin Your Saga, drag to move it. The tooltip shows what the 15-minute journal is holding.

Beta switches: batched, callbacks, antiRepeat, grind, travel, deaths, instances, quotes, milestones, milestoneChat start on; milestoneEmote, raceClassFlavor, placeTime, playstyle, search, pins, chapters, story, loginRecap, welcome start off. /saga beta lists them with a short description. Turning a switch off never deletes anything.

Updating keeps your journal. Saga Keeper only ever adds to its saved file; journals from every earlier version load intact, and a damaged part is set aside (under quarantine), never thrown away.

Settings page

Everything from the setup wizard can be changed later under Options > AddOns > Saga Keeper (or type /saga settings). The page has three sections, plus a Beta systems list with one check box per switch:

Profile and capture settings belong to the character you're logged in on. The minimap button and journal size warning apply to all your characters. Changes save as you go.

Key bindings (Options > Keybindings > AddOns > Saga Keeper, unbound to start): pause / resume recording, and share the chapter /emote.

Commands

Optional capture features (off by default)

• NPC say/yell lines: notes memorable NPC lines (throttled).
• Close calls: notes a fight that ended with you at very low health.
• Auto-screenshot: takes a screenshot on level up, quest turn-in and new zones (at most once a minute, never in combat).

Companion addon: Saga Voice

Saga Voice is a separate, optional companion. It rewrites what you type in chat into your race's voice as you send it. You don't need it to use Saga Keeper, and it works without Saga Keeper too. When both are installed, the traits and narrator tone you pick here color how your character sounds in Saga Voice, and the lines you say in character are saved to your journal.

Good to know

• Saga Keeper never reads the combat log and does no combat automation.
• Deaths record where you fell, not who killed you.
• Your journal is saved per character in WTF/Account/<ACCOUNT>/SavedVariables/SagaKeeper.lua when you log out or /reload.
• Works alongside Total RP 3: if TRP3 is installed, your TRP3 name is offered as your saga name.
• After installing or updating, fully restart WoW so the wolf icon loads (/reload doesn't pick up new image files).
• No libraries, no ads, no tracking. Free and open source (MIT).

For template writers

All story lines live in Templates.lua. Other addons can add lines with SagaKeeper_RegisterTemplatePack(pack). Addon authors can add "Said" entries with SagaKeeper.AddQuote{ text = "..." } (check SagaKeeper.API_VERSION, currently 1).

Why this exists: I'm brand new to roleplay and really want to respect the RP community. I built this to help new players like me join in the right way.
