What's new

Roger 2.4.0

Talent trees, medals and pause for Scourge Defense, plus a UI that fits the screen.

Talent trees

The first time you upgrade a tower you choose one of two specialisations, named for the real TBC trees and built from their signature talents. The choice is permanent - selling the tower is the only way back - so it gets a card showing both trees side by side before you commit.

  • Mage - Frost, for deeper and longer slows, or Fire, for splash and a burn.
  • Hunter - Marksmanship, for enormous range and crushing critical strikes, or Beast Mastery, for the fastest and hardest hits in the game up close.
  • Warlock - Affliction, for stronger curses, or Destruction, which stops cursing and starts throwing bolts.
  • Paladin - Retribution, for a far harder-hitting aura, or Holy, which deals no damage at all and raises every tower around it instead.
  • Shaman - Elemental, for more chain jumps, or Enhancement, a very short and very fast single-target hit.

A specialised tower takes its tree's icon and colour on the map, so a Fire Mage and a Frost Mage are told apart at a glance.

Medals

Clearing a map now awards a medal for the difficulty you beat it on - Bronze for Easy, Silver for Normal, Gold for Hard. A higher medal grants the ones below it, so taking a map on Hard gives you all three and nobody has to replay Easy for a full set. Medals show on every map card, total up in the picker, and are a leaderboard column. Maps cleared before this version keep their clear.

Pause and restart

  • A Pause button that stops the clock and opens a pause menu.
  • Restart the current map from wave 1, from that menu.
  • Your own pause is now kept separate from the automatic one, so leaving combat no longer resumes a run you had deliberately stopped.

Fixes

  • Damage over time never credited the tower that applied it, so every Warlock reported zero kills and zero damage however much it actually did.
  • Chain attacks never applied their effects, so a chaining tower could not slow or burn anything it jumped to.
  • A tower kept its old cooldown through an upgrade that changed how it attacks.
  • Beast Mastery was too weak to be worth picking, and has been rebuilt.

Windows and scaling

  • The window now scales itself to fit your screen, so a large board, a large tile size or a high window scale can no longer push the title bar and the tabs off the edge.
  • The window scale setting is applied at login. It used to be applied only by dragging the slider, so a saved value came back as 1.0.
  • The campaign no longer resizes the window between bosses, and the pre-fight briefing is the same size as the fight it introduces.
  • The map picker drew two columns in a window with room for three.
  • The boss model was drawn through the top of its own health bar.
  • The Sell button hung past the edge of the tower inspector, and picking a support tower left a gap in the button row.
  • The next-wave strip could not show a sixth kind of Scourge.
  • The leaderboard drew at most 60 players while claiming to list up to 200.
  • A long endless result could run off both sides of the summary card.

GemCrush's rules are unchanged; the fixes above are shared window behaviour.
