Description

QuestTrail

A quest route planner for WoW Forever, built by its players.

QuestTrail tells you where to go next and in which order, from your very first character. It ships with no quest database embarked: it learns from what players actually do in game, so it works on brand-new Forever quests from day one.

  • The Compass points to your next step.

  • The Minimap Planner (Shift+M) draws the whole route on the zone map, with numbered steps.

  • The tracker shows how much XP each quest is worth.

New in 2.0: Shared Trail

Every QuestTrail player now helps every other one. What your characters discover (quest givers, objective spots, turn-ins, walking paths) is shared with other QuestTrail players, and what they discover comes back to you. The more people play, the better everyone's markers and routes get.

On first launch you pick how much you want to receive. You can change it anytime in the options or with /qtr trail.

Mode You receive You share
World Trail (default) Discoveries from every QuestTrail player Yes
Guild Trail Discoveries from your guildmates only Yes
Lone Trail Nothing: you discover everything yourself, no spoilers Yes

Anonymous and safe by design

  • No player or guild name is ever stored or sent with the data.
  • Your own data always wins, and received data is kept apart from it.
  • Data from the world is only used once two different players agree on it (one is enough for a guildmate).
  • A source that contradicts what you saw yourself is blocked automatically. You can also block a source or forget everything received in one click.
  • Messages are strictly checked: only positions and quest IDs, never code.
  • Nothing is exchanged in combat, and transfers stay small and spread out.

The best route, computed for you

QuestTrail does more than point at the nearest quest. It plans the order of every step (taking, doing and turning in) to waste as little time as possible.

  • Finishes an area, then turns in several quests in one trip instead of running back and forth.
  • Groups objectives that share the same mobs or the same area.
  • Prefers dense mob camps over sparse ones, and chains several camps when one is not enough.
  • Uses real distances: walking paths, city entrances, your flight paths ("Fly to Crossroads") and your hearthstone, with a clickable hearthstone icon when going back to the inn is the best move.
  • Learns your own pace (kill speed, travel speed) and adapts the plan to it.
  • Values quest chains and starts them early.
  • Re-plans as you move and as your quest log changes, without freezing the game.

Clean and quiet

  • Small markers on the map and minimap, one colour per quest everywhere (markers, Compass, Minimap Planner), with a glyph telling what to do: kill, collect, use an item, escort or reach a place.
  • A turn-in marker only appears once the quest is ready; a follow-up only once the previous quest is done. Quests your class, race, faction or professions can't take stay hidden.
  • Group, elite and dungeon quests are tracked but never routed. Grey quests are ignored; orange and red ones are only offered when nothing else is left.
  • One on/off switch per feature in the options, every setting with a short tooltip, sizes and colours adjustable.
  • /qtr restore gives Blizzard's interface back exactly as it was.

Also included

  • Quest automation: auto-accept and auto turn-in, each set to Never, Quests already done, or All quests (hold Shift to read a quest anyway).
  • Best reward highlighted: the biggest upgrade for your class and spec, with editable stat weights per class and spec in the Rewards page; otherwise the one that sells for the most.
  • XP estimates for every quest, plus the XP of the chain behind it.
  • Item buttons in the tracker for quests that need an item used.
  • Update notice: when another player runs a newer version, a small window lists what's new.
  • Auto repair and grey selling at vendors (optional).
  • Export / import of what you learned.
  • Minimap button (left click: options, right click: Compass on/off).

Getting started

  1. Install QuestTrail, then restart the game (a /reload is not enough after an update).
  2. Pick your Shared Trail mode in the window that opens.
  3. Play normally: the Compass and the Minimap Planner guide you at once, and every character teaches it more.

/qtr or the minimap button opens the options (also in Options > AddOns > QuestTrail). /qtr help lists the commands.
