What's new

4.0.0 - 2026-09-06

Preydator has been rebuilt from the ground up. This is the biggest update yet — same Hunt tracking you're used to, on a completely new, more reliable foundation. See the Known Limitations section below for a couple of things still worth knowing about.

New

  • Redesigned progress bar: drag it anywhere, resize it, and it now fully supports a vertical layout too. Works with Blizzard's Edit Mode and remembers its position across reloads.
  • Settings are now built into Blizzard's own Options window (Escape → Options → AddOns → Preydator, or type /preydator) instead of a separate custom window.
  • Redesigned Hunt Table panel: shows each available hunt's icon, name, zone, and reward icons, with a one-click Accept button. Group hunts by difficulty or zone and sort them however you like, right from the panel.
  • Reward icons now show the real item/currency artwork and quantity for every hunt reward, including the chest or bag itself — hover any icon to see its full name.
  • Achievement badges on the Hunt Table: hunts that still count toward a Prey achievement show a badge (hover for details), so you can prioritize which hunts to do.
  • New Mob Scanner: Pack Ambush and Exploding Corpse Snakes (this season's versions of the old Bloody Command / Echo of Predation mechanics) each play their own distinct alert sound now, detected reliably instead of guessing from chat text.
  • The bar's text now actually changes for a few seconds during a real ambush or Pack Ambush, instead of only playing a sound.
  • New "Amplify Alert Sounds" option (Settings → Sound & Alerts): briefly boosts alert volume over your music/ambience so a cue doesn't get lost in a noisy fight. Off by default.
  • Custom sound file support (Settings → Advanced): register your own .ogg file so it shows up in every sound picker.
  • New minimap button / Addon Compartment entry: left-click opens Settings, right-click prints a quick status report.
  • New /pd diagnostic commands for troubleshooting — handy if you ever need to report a bug and want to include real data instead of a guess.
  • New one-time "What's New" popup on your first login after this update, covering the highlights above, what the Hunt Table's icons mean, and the known limitations below. Reopen it anytime from Settings → Advanced → "Show What's New."

Improved

  • Prey Hunt stage progress now updates live and continuously through a hunt, instead of only catching up after certain events.
  • Zone detection (whether you're actually "in" your prey's zone) is far more reliable across unusual zone shapes, and recovers on its own from brief hiccups instead of flickering the bar on and off.
  • The Hunt Table panel now reliably shows hunts every time you open it, and correctly refreshes when you accept or abandon a hunt.
  • Reward rows, achievement badges, and difficulty icons are all sharper and more consistent than before.

Fixed

  • Fixed an occasional error after pressing Escape, caused by the Settings "Reset All" confirmation dialog.
  • Fixed the default Blizzard prey icon flashing/pulsing on every bit of progress, and lingering with stale progress after a hunt ended, even with "Hide Blizzard's Prey Icon" turned on.
  • Fixed "Amplify Alert Sounds" not actually making alerts louder for players whose volume was already above the halfway point.
  • Fixed the Spanish (esES) ambush label translation silently not applying.
  • Fixed the Simplified Chinese (zhCN) "Vertical" translation showing inconsistent text in some places.
  • Fixed the built-in minimap button always snapping to the right side when dragged.
  • Fixed several smaller Hunt Table issues: reward order occasionally changing between scans, Nightmare hunts sometimes dropping their 5th reward, achievement tooltips showing the wrong name, and a couple of new-content hunts never showing an achievement badge.
  • Fixed the bar getting stuck showing stale hunt progress indefinitely after entering a Delve (or any other restricted instance) with an active hunt, instead of correctly going quiet. It now updates immediately on entry, same as every other restricted-instance case.

Removed

  • Retired the old single, ~6,000-line core file and several other legacy files in favor of the new modular structure. No settings were lost in the process — everything carries over.

Known Limitations

  • Blizzard's own default prey icon can occasionally reappear mid-hunt if that happens while you're in combat — Blizzard doesn't allow addons to hide UI elements during combat. It corrects itself the moment combat ends.
  • In a small number of unusual zone shapes, the bar may briefly flicker right at the very start of a hunt before settling.
  • If Sound Channel (Settings → Sound & Alerts) is set to "Dialog," alerts that fire close together can occasionally cut each other off — this is how WoW's Dialog channel works for every addon, not something specific to Preydator. Switch to "Master" or "SFX" if you want overlapping alerts to always play in full.
  • Difficulty-text detection (Normal/Hard/Nightmare) is incomplete for Korean and Simplified Chinese clients on hunts not yet in the addon's internal data; everything else works normally. Fluent in Korean or Chinese? We'd love your help — see the README for how to contribute a translation.
