PresenceCam

Makes the camera feel like you are there, with a gentle head bob, an over-the-shoulder view up close, smooth zoom and subtle camera touches.

PresenceCam makes the camera feel less like a drone hanging behind your character and more like it belongs to someone walking through the world. It only changes the game's own camera settings, and it puts your own values back when you turn it off. All parts are on by default.

Running: the head bob follows your stride.

Head bob while running

Zooming in: each notch glides, and the camera moves out over your shoulder.

Smooth zoom and over the shoulder

Turning: the camera swings in behind you at a calm pace.

Soft follow in a turn

What it does

  • Head bob – a gentle bob that follows your character's stride while you move. It fades out when combat starts and back in afterwards.
  • Over the shoulder – zoom in close and the camera glides out over your shoulder, right or left as you choose. Far out and in first-person it stays centered.
  • Smooth zoom – each notch of the mouse wheel glides instead of jumping.
  • Lower camera angle – your character sits a little lower in the picture, so you see more of the world ahead. Adjustable strength.
  • Follow emotes – when you stand still, the camera follows your character's head as you /dance, /sit or emote. Adjustable strength. Off in combat.
  • View opens as you run – the field of view is a little narrower when you stand still and opens up as you pick up speed. Your normal view in combat.
  • Soft follow – the camera swings back behind you more slowly (when Blizzard's Camera Following Style is not set to Never).

Each part can be turned off on its own in Options → AddOns → PresenceCam, where you also find the head bob intensity and which shoulder to use.

Motion sickness

PresenceCam needs Blizzard's "Keep Character Centered" and "Reduce Unexpected Camera Movement" turned off; the game's head movement and shoulder offset do not work while they are on. If either is on, PresenceCam asks the first time you log in. If you say no, it stays off until you type /pcam on. When you turn PresenceCam off, both settings go back to what they were.

If any of the movement bothers you, lower the intensity, turn single parts off, or put "Toggle PresenceCam" on a key so you can switch it off at once.

Commands

  • /pcam – turns PresenceCam on or off; /pcam on and /pcam off do one or the other
  • /pcam intensity 0-100 – how strong the head bob is
  • /pcam shoulder, zoom, pitch, emote, fov or follow – switches one part; add on or off to choose
  • /pcam shoulder left or /pcam shoulder right – which shoulder the camera moves out over
  • /pcam pitch 0-100 and /pcam emote 0-100 – strength of the camera angle and the emote follow
  • /pcam status – shows what is on and the game's current values
  • /pcam reset – back to the defaults

Keybinding: Options → Keybindings → AddOns → "Toggle PresenceCam".

Good to know

  • Made for WoW Forever (interface 16001) and tested in the beta.
  • Your own camera settings are saved before anything changes and put back on /pcam off and on logout. If the game closes without a logout, they are put back at your next login.
  • DynamicCam changes the same settings. If it is loaded, PresenceCam stays off and says so in chat; /pcam on runs it anyway.
  • Bugs and ideas are welcome in the comments.
