Parrot 3 - NeRgY Fork

Continued development of Parrot floating combat text for World of Warcraft

Parrot shows your damage, healing, crits, misses, procs and more as animated text flying across your screen — fully separate from Blizzard's own combat text, and fully yours to configure: colors, fonts, icons, animation styles, where each type of message goes and how it scrolls.

One addon, every version of the game — Retail, Classic Era, TBC Classic and MoP Classic, auto-detected by your client.

Original project & license

Parrot 3 is a fork, continuing from:

  1. Parrot by ckknight — the original addon.
  2. Parrot 2 by Neb (nebularg) — continued the original, split it into Retail and Classic builds. (GitHub)
  3. Parrot 3 — this project, by NeRgY — merges Neb's separate builds back into one addon and keeps it working on current clients (see "What's different" below).

Licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1, the same license Parrot 2 is distributed under — see LICENSE.txt in the repository. All original copyright notices and author credits are kept intact, every file this fork changed carries an in-file notice stating what changed. Not affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment, ckknight, or Neb.

What's different in this fork

  • One addon instead of two — Parrot 2 shipped a separate Retail build and a separate Classic build. Parrot 3 merges them into a single addon with a dedicated TOC and a fully separate code tree per game version (see the client table below), so one download covers everything.
  • MoP Classic support — takes Parrot 2's Retail trigger system (spec-aware default triggers, focus unit, spell-overlay condition) and adapts it to MoP's older spell API.
  • Updated for current clients — audited and patched against deprecated/changed APIs on modern Retail, refreshed embedded libraries (Ace3, LibDBIcon-1.0), and hardened against a client-side taint issue that could otherwise block combat-log access entirely on Retail.
  • New minimap button, Settings tab and language selector, a modern options-window skin, and About/Changelog panels — none of which existed in Parrot 2.
  • Existing Parrot 2 profiles and settings carry over unchanged.
