Murbloc

Less spam. More game.

Murbloc is a configurable chat-filtering addon for WoW Forever. It hides unwanted messages completely, without replacement text or notifications, and can optionally remember their senders so their future messages stay hidden across standard chat channels.

Features

• Murloc and Naga filtering: Recognizes common alternate spellings, repeated letters, plurals, spacing, punctuation, leetspeak, and selected lookalike characters.
• Sexual-spam filtering: Includes explicit vocabulary and common “anal” spam patterns, with word boundaries that preserve ordinary words such as “analysis.”
• Automatic sender muting: Enabled by default. One matching message adds its sender to Murbloc’s local mute list.
• Optional WoW Ignore: Add individual players manually or enable automatic ignore requests. This option is off by default.
• Custom phrases: Add your own filters and disable individual built-in sexual terms.
• Mute management: Search muted players and remove individual entries.
• Separate category controls: Toggle Murloc, Naga, and sexual-spam filtering independently.
• Optional speech-bubble hiding: Disable all speech bubbles if desired.

Getting started

Install Murbloc, restart WoW, and enable it in your AddOns list. Filtering starts automatically.

Type /murbloc to open settings or /murbloc help for commands.

Coverage and behavior

Murbloc covers standard chat channels, including General, Trade, custom channels, Say, Yell, whispers, party, raid, guild, and officer chat.

The creature-name filters are intentionally aggressive and can hide legitimate discussions containing those names. Each category can be disabled separately. No keyword filter can recognize every invented spelling or context.

Existing chat history is not filtered retroactively. Independent chat addons that bypass WoW’s standard filtering may still display messages. Local unmuting does not remove an existing WoW ignore.

Compatibility

Designed for WoW Forever 1.60.1 / Interface 16001. No dependencies.

Commenting with a relevant history is especially helpful for understanding tracking issues.
