v3.3.0
What's new
Midnight Helper 3.3.0
Midnight Helper is written and maintained by one person. That is the honest reason updates arrive in bursts rather than on a schedule, and it is also the reason a release like this one exists at all.
Almost everything here is a correction. Not bugs, but sentences that were true when they were written and had quietly stopped being true since. Going back over what the addon already said is less exciting than adding something new, and it is worth more.
Knowledge Points can be undone
The professions chapter opened by telling you your points were permanent and could never be refunded. That stopped being true on 11 August. You get one reset per profession, from Theremis in Silvermoon City, and it takes back the recipes those points taught you as well.
There is a route button to him now, and he shows up in the search. The reassuring half of the old text survives, because it is still true: you cannot waste points, you can only spend them in an awkward order.
Engineering was sending you into a dead end
Our route put Recycling last. In Midnight, recycling is how you discover most of your recipes, and it stays switched off until points go into it. So anyone following our advice recycled, watched nothing happen, and reasonably concluded the feature was broken. Recycling is the first step now.
Leatherworking also stopped contradicting itself on a single screen, where the route said to take the armour tree first and the paragraph beside it said the opposite. The route was deliberately changed in July and the text was not, so the text was the half that had gone stale.
Three slots that could never get advice
Rings, weapons and shoulders stayed quiet, and not because nothing exists for them. Our own table was filed by the wrong thing, which put whole enchants permanently out of reach.
- Rings were filed by secondary stat, so an enchant that boosts your critical strikes could never be offered to anyone.
- Weapons had the same fault, which hid the primary-stat enchant entirely. The weapon slot now looks at what your specialisation actually wants.
- Shoulders now carry the same Speed, Leech and Avoidance choice that head and feet already had.
- Legs show both armour kits and both spellthreads, and deliberately claim no rule about choosing between them, because the split some sources publish is not one the item tooltips recognise.
Every identifier behind those recommendations was read out of your own client rather than copied from a guide.
Consumables, and a way to notice next time
Seventeen flask and combat-potion picks were still the set from May, and seven more could not be resolved by name at all. All of them have been refreshed against the guide we already cite.
More usefully, there is now a checker that compares our picks against that guide and reports every place ours is not named. The next time this goes stale, it goes stale loudly.
Ritual tiers, measured at the obelisk
Item levels are back, and this time they were read standing in front of the thing rather than reconstructed: 215, 231, 244, 259, 268 and 275. Tier 6 exists and wants six challenges. We had been showing wrong numbers and, separately, contradicting ourselves about how many tiers there even are.
Withdrawn rather than repaired
Some things could not be corrected because they should never have been said. These are gone:
- Two Codex crest claims that outlived their season, and then outlived their own correction.
- The Field Accolade vendor tracks, and the prices beside them, which we could not stand behind.
- A promised Spark of Radiance, which belongs to the previous expansion. Midnight's equivalent is Spark of Tides.
- A weekly the reset routine still sent you to, months after it stopped being offered.
- Hand-maintained raid boss names, now read from the game's own journal instead.
Smaller things
The Season 2 delve questline is mentioned, which the addon has known about all along and never said out loud. Rare arrival hints moved off our own arrow and into chat, where TomTom cannot hide them. Balance Druid is split by hero talent; Shadow Priest deliberately is not. Stat priorities are refreshed for this patch.
What is coming
A much larger professions update is being written: beginner chapters on quality, on the six profession stats, on Concentration, on work orders and on making gold, every one of them checked against this patch rather than carried over from the last.
It will take a while, for the reason at the top. Thank you for the reports that make it possible.
