Description
Midnight Helper
π¬ Join the community β need help, found a bug, or want to help translate? Come say hi on Discord. Beginners very welcome, and the addon is always free. π
Just hit 90 and nobody explained any of this?
Midnight Helper is the addon that tells you why, not just what. Your gear says "Champion 4/6" and the game never says what that means. Your vault has three empty slots and nothing says how to fill them. Midnight Helper answers those questions in plain language, in your own language β and then takes you there.
One window for the whole week. Clean enough for a brand-new max-level player, deep enough for a min-maxer. Seven languages, no dependencies, always free.
See it in action
Take a look at the screenshots for a feel of the addon in play β the This Week dashboard (your whole week at a glance), the bar setup panel that lays out your spells and keys for you, the class keybind coach (your live spellbook mapped onto a clean keyboard layout), the on-screen route arrow, the Great Vault Advisor ranking your loot choices, and the Delve Coach with per-boss tips.
Highlights
Set up your bars without typing anything
/mh setupβ one panel for the whole job. It tells you which character you are on and whether your keybinds are account-wide or this character's own before it offers anything that changes them, because getting that wrong quietly rebinds every alt you have.- Place your spells and bind your keys for the spec you are playing, per specialisation. You see exactly what would change before anything moves, and everything can be undone.
- Our recommended bar layout as a button, not a picture to copy by hand. It touches action bars 1-8 and nothing else β your minimap, unit frames and macro bars stay where you put them β and a second button restores your old layout.
- Thumb-button keys onto action bar 8. If your mouse sends
6 7 8 9 0 -instead of mouse buttons, one press puts them where they belong and leaves every key you already bound exactly where your hands expect it. - Never used any of this? Open Midnight Helper on a character whose bars have not been set up and it offers once, on the front page. Dismiss it and it stays dismissed.
Getting there, and knowing your keys
- A chest route inside delves. The coach points you at the nearest Sturdy Chest you have not opened and moves on by itself once you loot it β and where it cannot tell whether a chest is done, it keeps it in the route and says so, rather than quietly hiding one.
- Travel that plans the whole way.
/mh planlays out the route to your current target as steps you can click, and the arrow walks it: it points at the first step on your own map, works out the plan again as you move, and says "you are here, walk through" rather than spinning when you are already standing on one. Where a door is closer than a flight, it takes the door and tells you why. 649 flight points across 154 maps, filtered to your faction, and the flight map highlights the stop to click. - What not to stand in, wherever you are. The Delve Coach lists the avoidable damage for the instance you are actually in β 173 named hazards across every Midnight dungeon and delve, the lair and the raid. Names come from your own game, so they are already in your language.
/mh curiosβ what Valeera's delve curios actually do. Every line is read out of your own game as you ask, so it describes the ranks you have rather than a guide's snapshot. It deliberately does not rank them: which curio wins depends on your spec and your delve, and nobody has measured that./mh bindsβ your own keybinds on paper. It reads the keys you actually have, including anything you changed by hand, and puts them in a window you can copy into a document and print. It marks keys that duplicate another, and names the Assisted Combat slot for what it is instead of for whichever spell it is suggesting right now.
Patch 12.1
- The Coiled Isle with its rares mapped: names, coordinates and the hidden kill quests that let the list tick itself off β measured on the test realm, not copied from anywhere. Altar of Fangs with beginner steps for all three bosses, and the two 12.1 delves (Gnarldor Isle, The Ring of Glory) in the coach with routes, bosses and 3D models.
- A Coiled Isle shelf in the Codex: the Vaults of Atal'Utek in three readable articles with clickable waypoint links on every coordinate, the Altar of Corrosion's four hidden keys explained, and a Follow the route button for The Honored Dead memorial walk.
- The isle's treasure, glyph and lore hunts with every coordinate measured, and the seven treasures that need something done first now name the step that unlocks them instead of sending you to a chest that will not open. The portal to the isle and back joins route guidance once you have finished the quest that creates it.
- Season 2 content stays hidden until the season genuinely opens, not merely until the patch lands β those are a week apart, and an addon that announces a raid you cannot enter yet is worse than one that says nothing.
- The Mysterious Mix Master's ten offerings, each with the three ingredients it wants, and one Route button for the cauldron rather than ten identical ones.
- The Ring of Glory opens with a warning in red: the golem's slam cannot be interrupted and lands underneath you, so stun it or take it on a defensive.
- In combat, 12.1 hides some of your own buffs from addons and reports them as simply absent. Midnight Helper tells you it cannot see, instead of telling you that you are missing a buff you are holding.
- The same patch hides what an enemy is casting β the spell, the icon and even the cast's length. So warnings like the one above are written into the briefing you read before you go in, rather than shown at the moment they would be useless. Where something is not possible, this addon says so instead of guessing convincingly.
Beside Blizzard's own windows
- Open your character sheet and a small panel appears next to it: missing enchants, empty sockets, your tier set, and which slots have hit their upgrade-track ceiling.
- The Mythic+ window shows your Great Vault dungeon row with the item level each filled slot is offering. The Adventure Guide shows the tips for whichever boss you selected, for your role. The mount collection shows your wishlist. The profession window shows what's waiting on that profession β Knowledge left to spend, and your trainer weekly.
- Panels follow the window when you move it, and you can drag them wherever you like β they remember.
/mh panelresetputs them all back.
This Week (home)
- "Next up" leads the page: the single most useful thing you can do right now, with a Take me there button that sets the route, and a tally of how far you are through the week. While you're levelling it never proposes endgame content you can't do yet.
- Home dashboard: weekly reset countdown, account-wide Great Vault status, this week's world boss, weekly chores (SMC, keys, shards), Ritual Sites and Void Assaults with one-click routes, and shortcuts to Rares, Raids and your mount hunt. Fold any section away β your choice is remembered.
- Quiet touches that look back, not just ahead: a Codex tip of the day, and milestones that mark your genuine firsts once and never nag again.
Collectible mounts
- Collectible mounts tab β a checklist of the 19 new Midnight mounts: a green tick for the ones you own, a red cross for the rest.
- Live progress per mount (renown level, meta-achievement steps, items banked), how to get it in one line, and a floating 3D preview beside the window when you hover a name β drag to spin.
- Hover a Voidlight Marl line to see your balance on every character.
- Mounts that are pure RNG β a rare drop, a puzzle, a hidden quest chain β show no progress bar at all, because there is no honest number to show.
Raids
- Raids page β boss steps for all four raids and their seventeen bosses: the three Season 1 raids (The Dreamrift, The Voidspire, March on Quel'Danas) and The Venomous Abyss with beginner steps for all eight Season 2 bosses, a strip of 3D boss models measured from the game's own journal, tank/healer lines and clickable spell links. Boss names come from the Encounter Journal, so they follow your game language.
- The Raid Coach window still opens by itself the moment a boss pull starts; the page is for preparing beforehand.
- Search a boss by name to jump straight to its steps β 52 bosses across dungeons and raids.
Leveling & Layout β the class coach
- A live keyboard layout that reads your actual spellbook and shows every ability on the key it belongs on, following one clear, universal keybind standard β so a new alt or a fresh spec is instantly readable.
- Covers all 13 classes and 40 specs β including the new Devourer Demon Hunter. Most specs are built automatically from what you can currently cast (no wrong or missing spell IDs); a few have hand-tuned maps that act as overrides. The layout re-draws itself as you level, swap talents/loadouts, or change spec.
- Spell-strip cards under the keyboard group your kit by purpose β builder, spender, AoE, interrupt, movement, defensives, dispel/CC, cooldowns and self-heals β each with a real in-game tooltip. Healers get a dedicated mouseover single-target heal card, while raid heals stay on keys.
- Consumables & extras bar: flasks, food, weapon oils/runes, augment runes and other non-keybind essentials with live ready/missing status.
- In groups helper: interrupts, defensives and party tips for the content you're running.
- A Midnight 80β90 leveling tips page for the current level push (path, XP, unlocks, consumables, gear, hand-off).
On-screen helpers
- Missing Buff reminder β a movable, resizable icon appears when you can cast a maintainable class buff you don't have active (raid buff, form, shield, weapon imbue, poison, stance, pet, ally buff or Paladin aura). Click it to cast (out of combat). Own, verified data across every class.
- Openables tracker β a movable button with a count badge and list for openable bag items (caches, lockboxes, satchels, quest containers). Left-click opens the next; items you can't open yet are hidden; a sound plays on a new drop.
- Fast Mark bar β mark your target with the raid icons, drop world markers on the ground (left-click set, right-click clear, clear-all) and run a ready check. Appears only while you're in a party or raid.
- Party targets β a small panel showing every group member and what they are attacking, with their role, their class colour and the raid marker sitting on their target. Click a line to take that target yourself, in combat too. Drag it anywhere, drag the corner to widen it. Off until you switch it on with
/mh partytargetsor in Settings. - Stay alive β at the top of the Role Academy's DPS track, your own buttons in the order a fight needs them: the shield you keep up, the one for when your health drops, how you get away, how you interrupt. Read from your live talents, so a spell replaced by a talent shows the name that is actually on your bars.
- Action prompt β a large icon when your interrupt applies to what your target is casting, and when your target carries something you can strip off.
/mh prompt soundmakes the purge half speak the word, chime, or stay quiet. Interrupts stay silent by necessity: Midnight lets an addon show whether a cast can be kicked, but never read it. Off until you switch it on with/mh prompt. - Potion and healthstone as keybinds instead of action bar slots. Bind them in Blizzard's own keybinding screen under Midnight Helper β nothing is bound for you.
- Quick bar (
/mh bar, off by default) β a small strip for the things you reach for and then hunt through menus to find: the addon itself, a reload, the setup panel, and leaving a party, an instance or a delve.
Navigation & routes
- Standalone route arrow β Midnight Helper draws its own on-screen direction arrow (rotates toward the target, shows live distance, drag to reposition) and drives the game's own map waypoint, keeping it on your next open stop and advancing it the moment you arrive. No TomTom required.
- Per-content icon and colour on the arrow β rare (red), treasure (gold), achievement (yellow), reset route (blue) β so you can tell at a glance what it's guiding you to.
- Plays nicely with your setup: if TomTom is driving its own arrow, Midnight Helper stays out of the way. Alongside WaypointUI both are shown β its pin marks the spot, our arrow gives you the direction and the distance β and
/mh arrow yieldhands the job to the pin alone if you prefer one guide./mh arrowtells you who is guiding you and why.
Achievements
- Achievements tab for Midnight's collectible hunts: Treasures, The Highest Peaks (telescopes), Midnight Lore Hunter and the zone rare-hunter achievements across Eversong Woods, Zul'Aman, Harandar and Voidstorm β live per-node progress and one-click routing to whatever you still miss.
- Light Up the Night meta breakdown (the four zone metas) with live progress toward the Brilliant Petalwing mount; per-card renown and collectible tracking; expandable checklists with waypoint buttons and how-to hints.
Rares
- Rares tab with per-character weekly tracking: pick the nearest incomplete rare or build a full route (nearest-neighbour ordering, world-coordinate distances).
- Live rare-nearby alerts β sound + on-screen toast when a tracked rare is up near you, even with the window closed; distance-gated; clicking the toast steers you to the rare and then returns you to the route you were on β whether you kill it, someone else does, or it's already gone when you arrive.
Delves & weekly progress
- Delves dashboard: currencies, season progress, and bountiful tracking.
- Great Vault tracker (World / Dungeons / Raids) on the Delves tab.
- Great Vault Advisor on Blizzard's Great Vault loot screen β ranks choices vs. your gear (ilvl, guide stat weights, tier sets); Auto / Raid / M+ profiles; optional Pawn when installed.
- Reset-day reminders and subtle highlights when a character has claimable vault rewards (chat, minimap ping, login popup β configurable).
- Travel Assistant for sensible cross-zone hops toward delve entrances.
In-delve tools
- Delve Coach β route, trash, and boss tips for all 13 Midnight delves, including Gnarldor Isle and The Ring of Glory from 12.1; resizable panel; boss 3D preview with scroll-zoom; spell tooltips where IDs are known.
- Delve Party Share β send coach tips to party, raid, or instance chat; recipients do not need this addon.
- Delve consumables β quick-use panel for RAID-R Mini and Trovehunter's Bounty when you carry them; auto-shows on delve entry; minimap launchers visible only during an active delve.
- Valeera curio advisor β role-based curio suggestions on the Delves tab and a popup at repair / gossip NPCs.
Account & professions
- Account snapshot β per-character overview (keys, shards, undercoins, item level, profession weekly currencies in tooltips), with a sort/filter toolbar, a stale-since-Wednesday badge, and compact vault status per row.
- "Where do my Knowledge Points go?" β the Professions overview names the tree to fill, then the exact node to spend on once the recommended trees are done, and lists every open choice with what it actually does β read live from the game, so it works for all 11 professions and in your own language. The recommended build order is checked against the current guides per profession. Where the best pick is genuinely your call, it explains the options instead of pretending there's one right answer.
- Professions 101 beginner course β each chapter opens with a plain-language intro before the build text and tells you where to actually click to spend points (the Specializations tab). A Guided mode wizard walks a total newcomer through learning and levelling any of the 11 professions, ticking steps off as your skill grows.
Gear: what to do when a slot is maxed
/mh trackslists which equipped slots are at their upgrade-track ceiling and names the two ways onward: the Great Vault, and crafting.- Including the part that is easy to miss β top-tier crests are earnable solo, through high Bountiful Delves and repeatable Tier 6 Ritual Sites. You do not need a raid group.
- A Codex entry walks through placing a crafting order: sparks, crests, missives, and the trap that sinks most first attempts (the crafter cannot supply your sparks or crests).
Before the season ends
- Season checklist β the things that genuinely stop being obtainable at the flip: the Delver's Journey, the "of the Dawn" upgrade-discount achievements, the delve nemesis kills and the Prey capstone. Each one ticks itself off from your own client, so nothing on it is a guess.
- A Codex entry explains what a season rollover actually does to your gear, your currencies and your progress tracks β including the difference between a season change and a stat squish.
Guides & reference
- Midnight Codex β the in-game handbook (Start Here, weekly loop, currencies with live balances, delves, M+, raid, world content, professions); Open links jump to the matching tab.
- Guide β compact reference / advisor.
- Macros β interrupt and team macro templates with class context.
- Role Academy β tank, heal and DPS learning tracks, each with a spec-aware toolkit: the cooldowns and personal defensives your spec actually has, with tooltips on hover. Healers also get their cooldowns labelled by purpose and a "what can I dispel?" reference.
- Consumables β per-spec suggestions with Wowhead-backed data and guide search preview.
- SMC City Guide β Silvermoon City pins with waypoint buttons; optional weekly/hub checklist.
- Addons tab β companion helpers for addons you may already run: Platynator and Details! damage meter. Each page hands you a profile string to paste yourself; nothing is ever imported on your behalf.
/mh fpsreads out the graphics settings that cost the most frames and changes none of them. It distinguishes a setting you deliberately raised from one still on its default, because the two look identical and only one is worth telling you about.- Global search routes keywords to the right tab (delves, consumables, academy, macros, city pins, and more).
- In-game changelog window.
Settings (Esc β AddOns β Midnight Helper)
- Great Vault Advisor on/off, profile default, and vault reminder options.
- Toggles for the Missing Buff reminder, the Openables button and the Fast Mark bar.
- Route arrow size and distance units; tab visibility.
Minimap
- DataBroker launcher with quick access, locale switcher, and vault reminder lines.

Notes
- Great Vault and alt snapshot values reflect the latest saved data per character. Log each alt at least once after weekly reset for a complete account picture.
- The Layout coach reads your live spellbook, so it shows only what your current loadout can cast (an M+ build and a raid build can differ).
- Raid target and world markers only take effect in a party/raid, per Blizzard β the Fast Mark bar shows there.
- Game data and recommendations may change with patches β verify quest IDs and weekly pins after major updates.
Requirements
- WoW Retail (see addon TOC for current interface version).
- Optional: TomTom or WaypointUI for enhanced in-world navigation β Midnight Helper works fully without either.
Credits and References
- Wowhead for public game-reference validation and lookup support.
- Icy Veins for external leveling and talent reference links.
- TomTom and WaypointUI for optional waypoint integration.
