What's new

- Chat: new Whisper Popup Window option (UI Modifications, Chat): a whisper opens a small window of its own, one per person, with the conversation and a box to answer in, instead of a new chat tab. Whispers still show in the main chat, and switching it off puts the game's own whisper setting back.
- Chat: the whisper popup's title bar is a header band you drag the window by, with the person's name in their class colour and their level when the game knows it (group, target, friends, guild, Battle.net friends).
- New Preload Artwork option (UI Modifications, on by default): the reskin's artwork loads during the loading screen, so a window opened for the first time after a reload, like the professions window and its crafting tabs, shows its art at once instead of a moment later. It keeps about 50 MB of artwork in memory; switch it off to load each piece only when a window needs it. `/mello preload` shows how much is loaded.
- Bar Text keeps its format in combat: when the game hides a unit's exact health or power, the text is still shown short (8.2k), as a percent or with the maximum, as you set it, instead of falling back to the raw number.
- Nameplates: the larger crowd-control icon is now sized without touching the game's own nameplate layout values, one less way for the nameplates to end up blaming MelloUI for an error.
- Painted edges: the spell book's two parchment pages, the stone pages of the professions overview and crafting page and of every tab of the Legacy window (rewards, challenges, tree), the crafting page's profession picture, the quest log's pages, MelloUI's quest list and the voice-over window's parchment now end in painted brush strokes on every side instead of straight edges. The chat windows, the damage meter, the objective tracker's backdrop and the whisper popup keep their stone and rails and get a parchment sheet on the stone with the same edge.
- Voice Over: subtitle pages now follow the voice more closely. Each page is timed by how long it takes to say, pauses at full stops and commas included, against the recording's own length, and each new page fades in.
- Route: new World Marker option (on by default). A gem over the destination itself, with the distance, stays on it as you move the camera; when the place is off screen, an arrow at the screen's edge points the way to turn. It takes the place of the game's own destination marker while it is on. With it comes a red Light Beam rising from the destination into the sky, so the place can be seen from far away; it flares up when a destination is set and fades as you arrive.
- New Windows Fade In option (UI Modifications, on by default): every window fades in when it opens, like the character window, talents and spells, professions, the bags, social, guild, the map and the game menu, with the reskin on or off. The whisper popup rises into place as it opens and fades out when closed.
- Bar Textures: new By health choice for the health bar colour, shading from green at full health through yellow to red when low, on the unit frames and nameplates. It keeps working in combat, and the class colour now does too.
- Profiles can be shared: Share on a profile gives one short string to copy, and Import as turns a string from someone else into a profile of yours (it is only used once you load it). Also `/mello profile export <name>` and `import <name>`.
- Unlock the Windows: opening a window in combat (talents, for example) no longer causes "ADDON BLOCKED" messages. A moved window the game protects during combat, such as the chat or the talents, is put back in its saved place once the fight is over, and can't be dragged until then.
- Action bars: the painted end caps in place of the gryphons now hide when Edit Mode's Hide Bar Art is ticked, and come back with it.
- Voice Over: the window's text is clean again with the Fonts outline on. The outline was being forced onto its dark text and smudged the letters.
- Spell book: the rims of the class and specialization tabs no longer pile their corner gems on top of each other; neighbouring tabs now share one gem where they meet, like the action bars.
- New Quest Tracker module (off by default): a quest tracker in the game's tracker's place that scrolls with the mouse wheel, so every watched quest can be reached. Click a quest to follow it, Shift-click to stop watching it, right-click to open it in the quest log; quest items are used with a click. It takes its place and height from the game's tracker in Edit Mode, or is moved by its header with Unlock the Windows; a grip sizes it, and Width, Scale and Text Size are in its settings. Tracked recipes show under Professions with their reagents. Each quest has the game's map button, the text is laid out as on the game's tracker, and the Quests and Professions sections fold away on their own minus buttons.
- Quest Tracker: an objective line glows briefly when it counts up (and the turn-in line when a quest is ready), and when you are scrolled to the end the list stays at the end as quests are added.
- New Error Messages module (off by default): hide the red error messages you choose from the middle of the screen, a kind at a time: not enough energy / rage / mana, not ready yet, out of range, facing and target, busy or moving. The messages you keep show as always, sound included.
- New Buffs & Debuffs module (off by default): MelloUI's own aura rows on the target frame, on enemy nameplates (your debuffs) and in place of the game's buff bar (your buffs, then your debuffs, weapon enchants included; right-click cancels a buff). They are drawn by the game itself, so they keep working in combat, with dispel-coloured borders on debuffs, stacks, time left and a cooldown swirl. The game's buff bar comes back while Edit Mode is open.
- Parchment is now a choice, off by default: UI Modifications has a Parchment section with one switch each for the objective tracker, the Quest Tracker, chat, the whisper popup, the damage meter and the character window. Off, the stone backdrop shows alone. The painted edge of every parchment is also softer, with rounded tears instead of spikes.
- New Reduce Motion option (UI Modifications): every MelloUI animation ends at once, so windows open without fading, the whisper popup appears in place and the quest tracker's lines do not glow.
- Chat: the short channel tags and hidden brackets are now written after the game has added a line, instead of by changing the game's own chat formats and channel naming. The chat looks the same, and the game's chat code no longer runs on MelloUI's values, which could get in the way of messages the game hides from addons. The bag buttons' rims are fitted the same way, without adding a field the game reads.
- Nameplates: the name no longer sinks into the bar on the smallest nameplate size, the quest icon shows beside the bar instead of hidden behind its gem, and the level circle is as tall as the bar at every size.
- Quests: every quest carries the Classic or the Forever logo, in the Quests list (top right of each quest) and beside the quest's name in the quest log and at a quest giver, so the quests Forever added stand out from the original ones. The quest data also covers 5,882 quests now, with most of Forever's quest givers and turn-ins placed on the map.
- Quests: a quest that starts from an item or an object now says so instead of "quest giver unknown" (Furlbrow's Deed: "Item: Westfall Deed"). An item that drops is placed where most of the creatures that drop it stand, and a single boss or chest on its own spot; clicking the quest routes there. In the Quests list and on the world map these quests get their own icons instead of the "!": crossed swords for an item you kill creatures for, a treasure chest for one picked up from the ground or a chest. On the map they show until you have the quest, and the tooltip names the zone. An item or object found only inside a dungeon or raid (the Dire Maul books, the Head of Onyxia) is listed under that instance, gets the dungeon or raid entrance icon beside the entrance on the world map with the quests it begins in its tooltip, and a click routes to the entrance. About 440 quests gained a starter this way.
- Quests: a Filter button at the top right of the Quests panel shows or hides quests by what they start from: a quest giver, a mob drop, an item picked up, or not known yet. It filters the map pins of quests you have not taken as well (also in the Configurator).
- Quests: a "Hide 5+ levels above me" check box under the Filter button of the Quests panel, a shortcut to the Hide Quests More Than N Levels Above Me setting: checked, the quests 5 or more levels above you (the red ones) leave the list and the map; unchecked, no limit again. Hide completed moved up beside it, under the Filter button.
- Route: a tracked quest is now routed to its objectives themselves: the nearest creature to kill, object to use, place where the item drops or vendor who sells it, or place to explore, for the objectives you have not finished. The nearest few places are compared by route, so one across a river or behind a cliff loses to a slightly farther one you can walk to, and the route moves on as you finish objectives. Covers about 1,470 Classic quests and 420 of Forever's own (on the two continents); a complete quest still leads to its turn-in.
- Route: routes follow the roads across zone borders. The traced roads were joined only within each zone, so a long route found no road out of it and cut straight across the hills, to a boat for example; the roads of neighbouring zones now meet, a road that ends at a zone border (like Westfall's at the bridge into Duskwood, where Duskwood's map paints no road) is carried on to the next zone's road, and the few gaps where the map shows no road are bridged by the shortest way across.
- Route: flights are only used between flight points your character has discovered. Each time you open a flight master, Route remembers which points that character knows (kept through restarts); until the first flight master is opened, it walks and sails instead of assuming every flight point is known, and flights learned by another character are no longer offered.
- Route: the route on the world map is drawn above the fog of war, so it shows through areas you have not explored yet.
- Route: choosing a quest to track while a map pin is set now removes the pin and routes to the quest; the pin used to stay, the route kept going to it, and after untracking the quest the arrow round the character froze pointing at it. The arrow round the character also only shows while the game is tracking the route's own destination.
- Bar Textures: new Execute Range option. An enemy's health bar turns purple below the percentage you set (20% by default) on the target and focus frames and on nameplates, with every health bar colour. It keeps working in combat, when the game hides the exact health.
- Chat: whisper tabs now get the chat reskin and the chat options (hidden art, tabs on mouseover, input box on top, hidden buttons) like every other chat window.
- Fixed Lua errors in combat: the damage meter's fight timer after its window had been moved, and reskinned buttons checking their hover and pressed state.
- Damage meter: the bars' brackets are scaled down to fit inside their rows; the gem caps no longer stick out of the row or into the window's border.
- Damage meter header: the damage type dropdown ("Damage Done", "Healing Done" ...) gets the kit's down arrow, the session dropdown a band that fits its small size instead of a squashed plate, and the settings button shows only the kit's cog (the game's gear was drawn on top of it).
