Maid

Abandoned
Automatic gear swapping based on zone & spec

Maid automatically dress you in equipment sets based on the context you're in, such as putting on PvP gear when PvP flagged or in battlegrounds/arenas/combat zones (Wintergrasp, Tol Barad), raid gear in raid zones or even gear for "good looks" in certain zones. It is easy to use (no configuration, only need to name equipment sets after a certain pattern described below), but you must understand how it works, so read the rest of this description :)

You must use the default Blizzard Equipment Manager, using custom equipment managers may confuse Maid.

This addon is very small, use nearly no memory nor CPU and doesn't do anything else than automatically equip your gear. A more advanced alternative to this addon is LushGearSwap.

Usage

Maid looks for equipment sets named using one of the following patterns (in prioritized order):

  • <talent spec>:<role>:<zone>
  • <role>:<zone>
  • <talent spec>:<zone>
  • <zone>

<role>

Which role you're assigned (either by being assigned a role from Looking For Group feature, or by setting role manually). There are 3 valid values for this: "t" (tank), "d" (damage) and "h" (healer).

<talent spec>

Since you probably have two talent specs, you may also want to differentiate what gear to use depending on which talent spec is active. Primary Talents is talent spec "1", Secondary Talents is talent spec "2".

<zone>

One of the following:

  • <zone name> - Name of the zone. Case sensitive, if name of zone exceeds the limit for the equipment set name (16 characters), just write as much as possible.
  • arena - Set to put on in arenas.
  • battleground - Set to put on in battlegrounds.
  • combat - Set to put on in combat zones (Wintergrasp, Tol Barad)
  • pvp - Set to put on when PvP flagged.
  • party - Set to put on when in 5 player dungeons.
  • raid - Set to put on in raid instances.
  • hostile - Set to put on in hostile zones.
  • contested - Set to put on in contested zones.
  • friendly - Set to put on in friendly zones.
  • sanctuary - Set to put on in sanctuaries.
  • pve - Default set.

Do I need a set for all these zones?

No. If you're in a contested zone, but don't have any set named "contested" then Maid will see if you got a set named "friendly", after that "sanctuary" and finally "pve". The same will happen if you're in an arena and don't have a set named "arena", Maid will see if you got a set named "battleground", then "combat", then "pvp", then "party" and all the way down to "pve". Maid works it way down from the top of the list shown above until it finds a set. If no sets match then Maid will not put on any set. Most likely you're only interested in the two sets "pve" and "pvp", but I added the others as it didn't really cost anything to code.

Examples

  • Set named "pve": This is the default set.
  • Set named "pvp": This set will be used when you're PvP flagged or in a pvp zone (arena, battleground, Tol Barad/Wintergrasp, etc.).
  • Set named "1:pve": This set will be used when your primary talents are active.
  • Set named "1:pvp": This set will be used when you're PvP flagged and your primary talents are active.
  • Set named "t:pve": This set will be used when your role is tank.
  • Set named "1:t:pve": This set will be used when your role is tank and your primary talents are active.
  • Set named "Orgrimmar": This set will be used when you're not PvP flagged and in Orgrimmar.

Help!

Feel free to ask questions, it was challenging to explain how to use the addon, even though it really is quite easy to use.
