What's new

Changelog for the 3.0.5 file upload

Paste the block below into the Changelog box when you upload MacroAnvil-3.0.5.zip.

It covers everything since 3.0.2, which is the file already on the page — anyone downloading now goes straight from 3.0.2 to 3.0.5, so they need all of it in one place. Every item came from playing the addon, not from testing it.

3.0.5

Macros you cannot use are no longer offered to you.

Reported by a level 6 shaman: Earth Totems showed up under Only what I can use, and pressing it did nothing. Three separate things were wrong.

  • A macro is now judged on the branch a plain press actually reaches. Earth Totems casts Tremor on Shift, Earthbind on Ctrl, Stoneclaw on Alt and Strength of Earth on a plain press. Knowing any one of those used to be enough for the macro to be listed — even when the spell a plain press needs was the one you did not have. If you cannot cast what a plain press casts, the macro is hidden.
  • Your level is taken into account. Every macro has always carried the lowest level its spells exist at. Nothing read it. It does now.
  • "The client did not answer" no longer reads as "you can use this." When the client could not resolve a macro's spells at all, the macro was shown with a green dot. It now shows as partial.

Icons.

  • The minimap button and the AddOns list entry were showing a blank rolled-up note. MacroAnvil now ships its own icon and uses that.
  • Macros you build take the icon of the spell you picked. Previously everything made with /ma new came out wearing the same blank note. An icon you choose yourself still overrides it.

Also

  • /ma bars — lists every action bar MacroAnvil can see and how many slots are free on each. MacroAnvil only ever places macros on bars that are on screen; that rule was never stated anywhere, and now you can see it.
  • Placement failures name themselves. "Could not place it on the bar" was four different problems sharing one sentence; each now carries a short code, so a bug report is one line instead of a conversation.
  • If placing a macro fails for any reason — including every visible bar being full — the macro is handed to your cursor instead, so one click finishes the job. It is no longer a dead end.
  • Key names and binding names are shown the way your client writes them. /ma bind clear accepts the key name it printed at you, which it did not on a non-English client.
  • The linter no longer prints internal identifiers. It used to say two abilities were "both PALADIN_BLESSING", and on a non-English client it could splice an English tooltip sentence into the middle of a translated finding.
  • /cast Mangle (Bear) is read as a spell name rather than as a rank, so the linter stops reporting it as unknown.
  • Talent tree names for classes other than your own come from the client where it can supply them.
  • enGB is treated as an English client, which it is.

If you want a shorter one

Some authors keep the changelog to a few lines and put the detail in the description. This version fits that:

3.0.5

- Macros you cannot actually use are no longer listed. Usability is judged on
the branch a plain press reaches, and on your level, instead of on whether
you know any spell in the macro at all.
- MacroAnvil ships its own icon; the minimap button and AddOns list no longer
  show a blank note.
- Macros you build take the icon of the spell you picked.
- New: /ma bars shows which action bars MacroAnvil can see and how many slots
  are free.
- If a macro cannot be placed on a bar it is handed to your cursor instead of
  giving up.
- Placement failures now say which step failed.
- Key names, binding names and linter findings no longer show internal
identifiers or untranslated English on a localised client.
