Macro Plus
Search your macros, find any icon by spell or item name, and see your alts' macros, right inside the default macro window.
Macro Plus doesn't replace Blizzard's macro window. It adds a few small, useful tools to it, so everything looks and works the way you're used to. No new windows, no setup.
Works in Classic Era, Burning Crusade Anniversary and WoW: Forever.
Features
Macro search
A search box at the top of the macro window filters your macros by name as you type. It works on both the General and character tabs. Selecting, editing, saving, deleting and dragging still act on the right macro while the filter is on.
Icon search
The icon picker gets a search box that understands:
- Spell names, full or partial:
whirlwind, frost nova, blood - Item names, full or partial:
hearthstone, thunderfury - Spell or item IDs from Wowhead or anywhere else:
1680,19019(pasting a Wowhead link works too) - Icon file names:
inv_sword_04,ability_warrior_charge
Results are ranked so the icon you most likely want comes first: abilities players can learn, then items, then everything else. Your own spellbook, bags and gear are searched as well.
The search covers every icon in your game client, not just the ones the default list shows. Every spell and item in the game is included. For art that no spell or item in your version uses, Macro Plus borrows the name from the closest game version that does use it, and every icon is also searchable by its file name.
Icon filters
The icon-type dropdown gains filters alongside Blizzard's own All Icons / Items / Spells:
- Class: each class's abilities, plus Pet Abilities and Racials
- Professions: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Cooking, Enchanting, Engineering, First Aid, Fishing and more
- Weapons by type, Armor by type, Consumables by type
- Other: mounts, companions, gems, reagents, trade goods, recipes, quest items, containers and more
Filters and search combine: pick Warrior and type shout to see only Warrior shouts.
Alts tab
A third tab next to General and your character's tab shows the character macros of your other characters on the account, laid out just like the normal macro grid.
- Flip between characters with the arrows.
- Copy any macro to your current character or to your General macros.
- Edit or delete an alt's macro. The change is queued and applied automatically the next time that character logs in. Undo it any time before then.
Each character needs to log in once with Macro Plus enabled before its macros appear. The game only lets an addon read the macros of the character you're playing.
Lightweight by design
- The macro search and Alts tab are a few small Lua files.
- The icon database is a separate load-on-demand addon (Macro Plus Icon Database). It isn't loaded until the first time you type in the icon search, so it costs nothing until you use it.
- Searches jump straight to matches instead of scanning everything, so they stay instant.
Commands
/mplus list: show the characters Macro Plus has saved/mplus forget Name-Realm: remove a deleted or transferred character from the Alts tab
(/macroplus works too.)
FAQ
Can Macro Plus give me more macro slots? No. The macro limit (120 General and 18 per character in Classic Era and TBC) is enforced by Blizzard's servers, and no addon can raise it.
Why can't I edit my alt's macro instantly? WoW only allows changes to the macros of the character you're logged into. Macro Plus remembers your edit and applies it when that character next logs in, then tells you in chat what it changed.
A spell I know shows a different icon first. Some spells share a name with NPC versions that use different art. Learnable abilities are ranked first, but if you see something odd, please report the search text and what you expected.
Do I need both folders?
Yes. Install both MacroPlus and MacroPlus_IconDB. Without the database, icon search still works by ID and for your own spells and items, but not for the rest of the game.
Beta notes
This is a beta. Please report bugs, odd search results or layout issues on the project's Issues page, including your game version (Era, TBC Anniversary or Forever) and a screenshot if possible.
Icon names come from the game's own data tables for each supported client.
