What's new
1.9.3
Swing timer. A new ring around everything else fills as your next
auto-attack comes round. The left half fills for your main hand and the
right half for your off hand, and each one swings when it reaches the top.
With one weapon, or while you're shooting, both halves fill together. It
flashes on each swing, only shows while you're auto-attacking, and sits
just outside your ring, or outside the GCD ring when that's on the outside
too. It's off by default: switch it on from the new Swing tab, or type
/lumen swing to go straight there.
Ranged covers Auto Shot and wands, and it's exact, because every shot reports itself. When a mob reaches you and you go into melee, the ring switches over by itself, and back again when you start shooting.
Forever doesn't let addons read the combat log, so melee is timed from the hits your target takes. Lumen looks for the steady beat of hits one weapon swing apart and follows that, so your pet's and other players' hits are ignored. It locks on within a couple of swings (the fill is faint until it does), keeps up with haste and new weapons, catches up after you've been out of range, and brings your next swing forward when you parry. It's spot on when you're the one hitting the target, and can wobble when a lot of people are.
You can pick the thickness, the colours for each hand, the opacity and the flash, and Preview shows two swings with your current weapons.
/lumen swinglog records what the swing timer sees, if you ever need to
report a problem with it.
1.8.1
The GCD ring has its own tab. It used to be tucked away on the Extras tab, so it now gets a GCD tab of its own with the on/off switch, a short explanation of how it works, a line showing which spell it's timing from, and all its look settings. A Preview button plays one sweep so you can see the ring without casting anything, even while it's switched off.
/lumen gcd opens the tab directly.
The Extras tab now holds just Sonar and Spotlight.
If you're updating, a small window in the middle of the screen tells you once that the GCD ring has moved, with a Show me button that opens the tab. It waits until you're out of combat, and new installs don't see it.
1.7.1
Long profile names fit properly. The profile dropdown now has its own row, and a name too long to fit ends in "..." instead of wrapping. The New profile window says Copy current profile and spells out which profile you're copying underneath, and the footer no longer runs into the version number.
1.7.0
GCD ring. A new ring on the Extras tab fills clockwise as your global cooldown runs, then flashes when you're free to cast again. It sits inside or outside your ring, follows its position and size, and comes in thin, medium or bold, in your ring's colour or any swatch, at any opacity.
On the Forever beta, cooldown timings are hidden from addons in combat, so Lumen watches whether an ordinary spell is on the global cooldown and times it from that. It learns the spell from your first cast of anything without a cooldown of its own (Frostbolt, for example) and remembers it for that character. Out of combat it uses the exact timings when the game allows it.
With the Reticle ring style, the brackets can open wide as the GCD starts and close in on the cursor as it runs, instead of showing a separate ring. That's on by default.
/lumen gcdtest prints each GCD's length in chat, if you ever want to
check the timing.
Profiles. Save your setup as a named profile and use it on any character. The Behaviour tab has a profile dropdown, plus New… (start from a copy of your current profile or from defaults) and Delete (click twice). Characters on the same profile share it, so changes on one show up on the others. Everyone starts on Default, which can't be deleted, and a character whose profile is deleted goes back to it. The bottom of the settings window shows which profile you're editing.
Profiles replace the "This character only" switch. Your setups carry over: your account look becomes Default, and any character with its own look gets a profile named after it.
Reticle and Runes are now ring styles. They're at the end of the Ring tab's style row, so the ring's colour, size, opacity, breathe and offset all apply to them. "Match ring colour" on the trail now matches them too. Spin works on Runes; the Reticle doesn't spin. Hunter's Mark and Arcane Ward use these styles, and saved settings with the reticle or rune circle switched on convert automatically.
The trail follows the ring. A new Follow the ring switch on the Trail tab, on by default, starts the trail wherever your ring is, offset included. Switch it off to give the trail its own X and Y offset.
Extras now holds Sonar, Spotlight and the GCD ring, all of which sit on your ring and move with its offset.
1.4.2
Move the ring and trail off the click point. The Ring and Trail tabs each have X and Y offset sliders, in screen pixels: positive X moves right, positive Y moves down. You can sit the ring over the body of the gauntlet instead of its fingertip, or have the trail come off the back of the hand.
The ring's offset also moves the reticle, rune circle, sonar and spotlight, so looks like Hunter's Mark and Arcane Ward shift with it. The ring's halo and dark outline move too, and the shake flare swells around the new spot.
Reset to 0, 0 under each pair of sliders puts it back on the click point. Offsets stay put when you pick a different look, since they're about lining up with your cursor rather than part of the style.
1.3.2
Did someone say....? A new Sword tab puts a sword in your cursor's hand. The game always draws its own cursor on top, so the gauntlet sits over the sword's grip and looks like it's holding it. A crackling ball of lightning sits in the hole of the blade, and a jagged lightning bolt trails behind it as you move, forking and flickering before it fades.
Turning it on switches off your ring, trail and extras. Turning it off brings back the ones that were on before, and anything you switched on in the meantime stays on. Picking a look from the Looks tab puts the sword away.
The lightning ball and trail can each be switched off, and the lightning
can use any of the twelve swatches or match your ring's colour. Sliders
set how far right and down the grip sits, the sword's length and its
angle. There's also an option to hide the sword while the game shows its
attack, loot or talk cursor. The defaults are set for a 32 x 32 cursor.
If yours is larger, /console cursorSizePreferred 0 sets it to 32 x 32.
/lumen cursortest opens a small window with the same controls, so you
can line the sword up while watching your cursor.
Spinning effects keep their size. The spinning ring, rune circle and star particles are now rotated a different way, so turning never changes how big they draw.
1.2.0
Account-wide or per-character settings. Every character still shares one look by default. Switch on This character only on the Behaviour tab and that character gets its own. It starts from a copy of your current look, so nothing changes until you start tweaking, and your other characters keep theirs.
Switching it back off returns that character to the shared look without losing its own, so you can flip between the two. Copy account look here resets a character's look to the shared one.
The bottom of the settings window shows which look you're editing, and the
login message mentions it when a character is using its own. Reset to
defaults and /lumen reset only reset the look you're currently editing.
Saving. Now that the Forever beta saves addon settings properly, Lumen no longer warns at login that your changes might be lost. Settings.lua stays as an optional backup of your account look.
1.1.0
Four new effects, on a new Extras tab. Each one can run alone or alongside the ring and trail.
Reticle. Four corner brackets frame the cursor like a target lock. Shake the mouse and they fly outward, then snap back in.
Rune Circle. A ring of runes turns slowly around the cursor. Set its size, colour, and how fast and which way it spins.
Sonar. Rings ripple out from the cursor every few seconds, and whenever you shake the mouse. Set the gap between pings (or zero for shake-only) and how far they reach.
Spotlight. Dims the game world and leaves a pool of light around your cursor. Your action bars and other UI stay bright. By default it only appears for a moment after a shake, closing in on the cursor as it lights up. Switch that off to keep it on all the time. Radius and darkness are adjustable.
Each effect can use the ring's colour (rainbow included) or one of twelve swatches.
Four new looks show them off: Hunter's Mark (gold reticle), Arcane Ward (rune circle and drifting stars), Beacon (sonar pings) and Lighthouse (spotlight on shake). Picking any look now also switches off extras that look doesn't use, so looks don't stack on top of each other.
Settings.lua now includes the new effects when you use Save to file. If you saved your settings with 1.0.1, those still load. The new effects start switched off.
1.0.1
First public release.
A ring around your cursor. Seven styles: Hairline, Classic, Bold, Soft Glow, Double, Dotted and Dashed. Set any colour with red, green and blue sliders or pick one of twelve swatches, or let it cycle through the rainbow. Size, opacity, a gentle breathing pulse and spin are all adjustable. An optional soft halo makes it glow, and a faint dark outline keeps it visible over snow, fire and bright spell effects.
A trail behind it. Six particle types: Glow, Spark, Star, Bubble, Diamond and Heart. Length, spacing, size and opacity are adjustable. The trail can match the ring's colour, take its own, or run as a rainbow ribbon, and particles can shrink as they fade or drift away like embers.
Shake to flare. Lose the cursor in a busy fight, give the mouse a quick wiggle, and the ring swells up so you can spot it, then settles back.
Eight ready-made looks to start from: Frost Wisp, Arcane Sigil, Fel Ember, Holy Light, Blood Moon, Sweetheart, Prism Comet and Minimal.
Stays out of the way. Nothing sits on your screen but the effect. It can hide while you hold a mouse button to steer the camera, show only in combat, or fade out when the mouse sits still and come back the moment you move.
Settings that survive a restart on the Forever beta. The beta saves
addon settings at logout but doesn't load them back, so Lumen also reads a
Settings.lua file in its folder. Set things up in /lumen, press Save to
file on the Behaviour tab, paste the text into Settings.lua, and your
look loads every time. On a client where saving works, the file is simply
ignored in favour of your in-game settings.
