What's new

Changelog – 1.0.63

This changelog contains all user-facing changes introduced after version 1.0.37.

Quest Reading

  • Added full quest text narration support.

  • LoreReader can now read quests directly from:

    • the NPC Quest window

    • the Quest Log / World Map quest details

    • popup quest detail windows

  • Quest narration supports the different quest stages, including:

    • quest title

    • quest description

    • objectives

    • progress text

    • completion / turn-in text

    • quest greeting text where available

  • Added dedicated Play / Pause, Stop and Settings controls to supported quest windows.

  • Quest narration uses Blizzard's currently displayed quest data and APIs instead of maintaining a separate quest database.

  • Quest narration is integrated into LoreReader's existing playback and speech-priority systems.

  • Reading can continue through the MiniPlayer after the original quest window has been closed.

  • LoreReader now captures Blizzard's explicit quest portrait or model data while the quest window is available.

  • Explicit quest portraits and models can continue to be displayed in the MiniPlayer during narration.

  • Quests without an explicit Blizzard portrait or model use a compact text-only MiniPlayer instead of generating a generic NPC model.

  • Text-only quest MiniPlayers automatically close when their narration has finished.

  • Improved quest window title handling so LoreReader controls no longer overlap long quest titles.

  • Long quest titles are shortened visually when required without changing the text being narrated.

NPC Dialogue Reading

  • Added direct narration support for regular NPC dialogue / Gossip text.

  • Added LoreReader controls directly to Blizzard's Gossip window:

    • Play / Pause

    • Stop

    • Settings

  • Dialogue narration reads the currently displayed NPC dialogue text.

  • NPC dialogue remains user-controlled:

    • selecting another dialogue option does not automatically start the next text

    • the player decides when each new dialogue page should be read

  • NPC dialogue uses the same LoreReader playback, pause and priority handling as other LoreReader narration.

  • Added a compact text-only MiniPlayer for dialogue narration when the source window is closed.

  • Dialogue MiniPlayers automatically close after the current text has finished.

DialogueUI Integration

  • Added optional compatibility with DialogueUI.

  • LoreReader automatically detects DialogueUI when it is installed and loaded.

  • Quest and NPC dialogue text displayed through DialogueUI can now be narrated by LoreReader.

  • Added dedicated LoreReader controls directly to the DialogueUI conversation window:

    • Play / Pause

    • Stop

    • Settings

  • LoreReader supports DialogueUI quest and conversation states including:

    • quest greetings

    • quest details

    • quest progress

    • quest completion

    • regular NPC dialogue

  • LoreReader uses DialogueUI's currently displayed content while continuing to rely on Blizzard data where required.

  • DialogueUI remains completely optional.

  • When DialogueUI is not installed, LoreReader continues to use Blizzard's normal Quest and Gossip interfaces.

  • LoreReader does not modify DialogueUI's saved settings.

  • DialogueUI's own optional TTS control is hidden only while LoreReader's controls are managing the same window.

  • Added a dedicated visual style specifically for LoreReader buttons inside DialogueUI.

  • DialogueUI buttons are independent from the normal LoreReader button-style selection.

  • DialogueUI's active Brown / Dark theme is detected so LoreReader's button symbols remain visually appropriate.

  • Improved the DialogueUI control layout to keep the buttons compact and unobtrusive.

  • Final DialogueUI button sizing in 1.0.63:

    • reduced button size from 24 × 24 to 20 × 20

    • reduced internal icon size to approximately 82%

    • reduced spacing between buttons to -1 px

  • The final DialogueUI layout keeps the controls in the order:

    • Play / Pause

    • Stop

    • Settings

Button Design System

  • Added a new global LoreReader button-style system.

  • Added four selectable button designs:

    • LoreReader Gold

    • Blizzard Dark

    • Minimal

    • Soft

  • The selected design is applied to LoreReader-owned media controls throughout the supported interfaces.

  • Changing the button style updates existing LoreReader controls immediately.

  • Button functionality and placement remain unchanged when switching styles.

  • DialogueUI-specific buttons intentionally remain independent from this setting and continue to use their dedicated DialogueUI appearance.

Design Settings

  • Added a new dedicated Design page to the LoreReader settings.

  • Moved visual customization out of the MiniPlayer settings where appropriate.

  • The Design page now contains:

    • LoreReader button style

    • Borderless / Soft Fade MiniPlayer appearance

    • MiniPlayer border selection

    • SharedMedia font selection

  • The previous MiniPlayer appearance dropdown was simplified.

  • Borderless / Soft Fade can now be enabled directly from the Design page.

  • Existing MiniPlayer appearance settings remain compatible.

SharedMedia Support

  • Added optional LibSharedMedia-3.0 integration.

  • SharedMedia is not required for LoreReader to function.

  • LoreReader automatically falls back to Blizzard defaults when SharedMedia is unavailable.

SharedMedia Fonts

  • Added support for selecting fonts registered through LibSharedMedia-3.0.

  • Selected fonts are applied to LoreReader's own interface elements, including:

    • the LoreReader settings window

    • the MiniPlayer

  • Added Blizzard Default as a selectable fallback.

SharedMedia MiniPlayer Borders

  • Added support for selecting MiniPlayer border textures registered through LibSharedMedia-3.0.

  • SharedMedia borders are used by the standard MiniPlayer design.

  • Border selection is automatically disabled while Borderless / Soft Fade is active because that design intentionally has no conventional frame border.

  • Added Blizzard Default as the standard fallback border.

MiniPlayer Improvements

  • Extended the MiniPlayer so it can now represent quest and NPC dialogue narration in addition to the existing LoreReader content types.

  • Added source-aware MiniPlayer behavior:

    • while the original quest or dialogue window is visible, LoreReader keeps the narration associated with that window

    • after the source window closes, the MiniPlayer becomes the continuation interface

  • Added compact text-only MiniPlayer layouts for narration that has no suitable artwork or model.

  • Added support for retaining explicit Blizzard quest portraits and models after the original quest window closes.

  • Improved MiniPlayer cleanup when short quest or dialogue narration finishes.

  • Prevented empty title-only MiniPlayers from remaining visible after text-only narration ends.

  • Existing Adventure Guide, Lorewalking, Delve, Trading Post and Reputation MiniPlayer behavior remains unchanged.

Interface Improvements

  • Added consistent LoreReader media controls to Quest and NPC dialogue interfaces.

  • Improved automatic button anchoring around Blizzard close, maximize and minimize controls.

  • Improved title alignment in windows containing LoreReader controls.

  • Added automatic title shortening where necessary to prevent long titles from overlapping the new controls.

  • Improved control visibility and enabled/disabled states when another LoreReader source is already active.

  • Play buttons now correctly switch between Play, Pause and Resume depending on the current source state.

Compatibility & Technical Improvements

  • Added optional addon dependencies for:

    • DialogueUI

    • LibSharedMedia-3.0

    • SharedMedia

  • Improved handling of Blizzard Secret Values when reading quest and NPC data.

  • Quest support uses Blizzard's native quest APIs and visible UI state instead of synthetic protected interactions.

  • Added additional safeguards for quest portrait and model information that may no longer be available after the original quest window closes.

  • Improved handling of Blizzard's shared QuestInfo frames and text elements when different quest interfaces reuse or reparent them.

  • Improved refresh behavior when quest, Gossip or DialogueUI windows change while remaining open.

  • Added late-loading support so LoreReader can initialize DialogueUI integration even when DialogueUI loads after LoreReader.

  • Existing LoreReader functionality continues to work without DialogueUI or SharedMedia installed.

Development Cleanup

Several larger systems were tested during the development cycle between 1.0.37 and 1.0.63 but were intentionally removed again before the final 1.0.63 build.

  • A temporary Modules settings page was introduced with individual toggles for:

    • Adventure Guide

    • Quests and Quest Log

    • NPC Dialogue

    • NPC Speech Bubble TTS

    • Lorewalking

    • Delves

    • Trading Post

    • Reputation

    • MiniPlayer

  • The module system was removed again after it introduced unnecessary complexity and regressions.

  • LoreReader therefore does not require individual feature modules to be enabled in 1.0.63.

  • A temporary Standard / Private build split was also tested.

  • The Private build included an additional DialogueUI Theme MiniPlayer background option.

  • That option reused DialogueUI's active Brown / Dark parchment appearance for the MiniPlayer.

  • The separate Private build and DialogueUI MiniPlayer background were removed again before 1.0.63.

  • LoreReader 1.0.63 therefore returns to a single unified build.

  • DialogueUI compatibility in the final build is limited to lightweight runtime integration and the dedicated DialogueUI button appearance; LoreReader does not depend on or package DialogueUI graphics.

Final 1.0.63 State

Version 1.0.63 keeps the stable LoreReader feature set from 1.0.37 while adding:

  • Quest narration

  • NPC dialogue narration

  • DialogueUI integration

  • four selectable LoreReader button styles

  • a dedicated Design settings page

  • optional SharedMedia fonts

  • optional SharedMedia MiniPlayer borders

  • quest and dialogue MiniPlayer support

  • improved quest portrait / model handling

  • compact DialogueUI-specific controls

The temporary module system, separate Private build and DialogueUI MiniPlayer background are not part of the final 1.0.63 release.
