Lodestar

Free & open in-game leveling guides for TBC Classic. Step-by-step 1–70 routes (Alliance & Horde) with a waypoint arrow, quest automation, XP pace, and a boosted 60→70 dungeon-spam path to Karazhan-attuned. A free alternative to paid guide addons.

Lodestar — free & open leveling guides for WoW: Forever

Step-by-step routes for Alliance and Horde, a waypoint arrow, and the tedious quest clicks automated. No paywall, no account, no ads. MIT-licensed, code on GitHub.

Install it, log in, play. Lodestar loads the right guide for your level and zone by itself.

What you get

  • 174 routed guides — leveling 1–60 for both factions, plus dungeons, reputation, dailies and events.
  • Waypoint arrow and ant trail on the minimap and the world map. Hands the waypoint off to TomTom if you have it.
  • Quest automation — accept, turn in, pick the right gossip option, repair, sell greys. Every one of them is a switch you can turn off.
  • XP pace HUD — XP/h, ETA to the next level, and whether you are ahead of or behind the route.
  • Target markers on tooltips and nameplates, a warning when you target something well above your level, and player coordinates on the minimap.
  • Gear advisor, death counter, and an end-of-run Report Card you can share — with ghost racing against your own best run.
  • Import and export guides with share codes, or record your own route in game.
  • Fully localized: enUS, ptBR, deDE, esES, esMX, frFR, itIT, koKR, ruRU, zhCN, zhTW.

Forever only

From v2.0.0 on, Lodestar targets WoW: Forever (Interface 16001) and nothing else. Support for TBC / Anniversary ended there — if you still play that client, stay on v1.x.

The brand-new zones (Riverglades, Zephras Isle, Shen'dralas) do not have routes yet. They open at launch, and a route can only be drawn after someone has walked the ground. That is exactly what the next section is about.

Where the guides come from, and how they grow

Forever keeps quest text, objectives, givers and coordinates on the server. The client ships 6,600 bare quest IDs and nothing else.

Part of the new content has started appearing in public databases. The rest — and above all the where: who hands the quest out, who takes it back, the exact spot — still exists only in the client you are logged into, and in the players who have walked it.

So Lodestar harvests while you play, and gives it back in the open. Every quest you pick up makes the next player's guide better.

What is collected, and what can leave your machine

  • Collected locally, always. Quest IDs, titles, levels, objectives, the NPCs who give and end each quest, coordinates, and the waypoints the server itself points at. It lives in your SavedVariables. Nothing about you, nothing about what you play.
  • Sent anywhere: only if you switch it on. Share quest locations is off by default. Switched on, it whispers only the where — quest ID, NPC ID, map, coordinate — to guildmates running the companion addon, so the harvest becomes guides faster. Nothing about your character goes into the message, and the addon on the other side drops who sent it.
  • No telemetry, no accounts, no ads, no analytics. Ever.
