Linux Resolution Fix Reforged
Playing WoW on Linux and the game starts with the wrong resolution every time? One click fixes it.
If your resolution is NOT wrongly set to "Custom" when the game starts, you don't need this addon.
The problem
On some Linux setups (Wine / Proton through Lutris, Heroic or Steam, on GNOME, Wayland…), WoW has a recurring bug:
- You launch the game.
- It is not truly fullscreen: your top bar or taskbar is still visible.
- In the System settings, the resolution shows "Custom" while the display mode is "Windowed (Fullscreen)".
- Selecting your native resolution fixes it…
- …until the next launch.
What the addon does
- At login, it compares the game window size with your monitor's native resolution.
- If they don't match, a Fix Resolution button appears at the top of the screen, showing the detected and target resolutions.
- One click applies the correct size. The button hides itself once everything is right.
- Nothing is changed without your click.
/lrfre-checks the resolution at any time.
Supported game versions
- Midnight (Retail), including PTR
- Mists of Pandaria Classic
- Burning Crusade Classic
- WoW: Forever
- Classic Era / Anniversary
✅ Tested in game on Retail, Classic Era, Burning Crusade Classic, Mists of Pandaria Classic and WoW: Forever.
The addon detects which functions your client provides. If a client lacks them, it prints a short message in the chat and stays inactive — no Lua errors.
Languages
Available in all the game's languages: English, French, German, Spanish (EU and Latin America), Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
Installation
Install it with the CurseForge app, or copy the LinuxResolutionFixReforged folder into: World of Warcraft/<game version folder>/Interface/AddOns/
Feedback
The bug depends on many layers (Wine/Proton version, compositor, launcher), so results may vary between setups. If it doesn't work for you, please open a comment or ticket with:
- your distribution and desktop (e.g. Fedora / GNOME / Wayland)
- your launcher (Lutris, Heroic, Steam…) and Wine/Proton version
- your game version
- the "Detected / Target" values shown under the button
