What's new

Every mechanic that earns one now carries the Encounter Journal's own icon flags, drawn with Blizzard's own art and reading exactly as they do on a modern boss page.

  • Deadly, Important, Interruptible and the dispel markers (Magic, Curse, Poison, Disease, Enrage) appear on the right of a row, up to four at a time, in the same order and with the same tooltips a native encounter uses.
  • The dispel markers are read from the game's own spell data rather than from a spell's name, so a Magic marker means the effect really can be dispelled. Magmadar's Frenzy is an Enrage effect and now says so.
  • The Important marker no longer appears on every raid-wide mechanic. It used to sit on 671 of 1,165 rows, which told you nothing; it now marks the mechanics that change what the raid does, and a row that has earned no marker shows none.
  • Bleed effects now carry the Bleed marker, read from the game's own spell mechanic rather than from a name.
  • Interrupt markers were checked against real combat logs, which proved six more casts stoppable than the first pass allowed: Kel'Thuzad's Frostbolt, Grand Widow Faerlina's Worshipper Fireball, High Astromancer Solarian's Holy Smite, Anub'arak's Shadow Strike, Lady Deathwhisper's Curse of Torpor and Gothik's Shadow Bolt Volley.
  • Corrected: Kil'jaeden's Darkness of a Thousand Souls is Deadly and Important rather than a healer mechanic; Instructor Razuvious' Unbalancing Strike, the Onyxian Lair Guard's Blast Nova, the Shambling Horror's Frenzy and Enrage, and the Lich King's Necrotic Plague are all Deadly.
  • Professor Putricide's Mutated Abomination has its own section, with the abilities it actually carries.
  • A fourth marker on one row no longer overlaps the third.
  • Mount Hyjal now documents its attack waves. Each of the four wave bosses carries an Attack Waves section listing the creatures that assault that base, with a portrait and abilities for each: Ghouls, Abominations, Crypt Fiends and Shadowy Necromancers throughout, Banshees from Anetheron on, Gargoyles and a Frost Wyrm at the Horde encampment, and Fel Stalkers and Giant Infernals in the last waves before Azgalor.
