Legacy Raid Journal

Opening any pre-cata raid in the Encounter Journal and the Abilities tab is empty. Blizzard never wrote the mechanics for Classic, Burning Crusade or Wrath bosses. This addon writes them in, laid out exactly the way retail lays out a modern raid boss.

What you get

Abilities tab — the boss lore paragraph, stage headers, then one collapsible row per ability with a spell icon on the left and a role marker on the right. The same page structure a current raid boss uses.

Overview tab — a short strategy summary, then Tanks / Healers / Damage Dealers / Raid, describing what each role is up against. Mechanics are not duplicated here.

Real spell tooltips on 870 abilities (81%). Where an ability is backed by a verified spell ID you get the game's own tooltip, identical to a modern journal entry, and you can shift-click to link it in chat. The rest fall back to the written description.

Creature portraits beside every creature section, the same as a modern encounter page.

Raids included

Every vanilla-to-Wrath raid that still exists as a raid in the retail Encounter Journal.

Classic — Molten Core, Onyxia's Lair, Blackwing Lair, Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj, Temple of Ahn'Qiraj

Burning Crusade — Karazhan, Gruul's Lair, Magtheridon's Lair, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, The Battle for Mount Hyjal, Sunwell Plateau

Wrath of the Lich King — Naxxramas, Onyxia's Lair, The Obsidian Sanctum, The Eye of Eternity, Vault of Archavon, Trial of the Crusader, Icecrown Citadel, The Ruby Sanctum

Difficulty and faction aware

Abilities that only exist on certain difficulties are hidden on the others, and the page redraws when you change difficulty.
Encounters that differ by faction show only what you actually face. In the Gunship Battle, Alliance sees the Kor'kron and High Overlord Saurfang; Horde sees the Skybreaker crew and Muradin Bronzebeard.
All 28 Trial of the Crusader Faction Champions are listed individually with their own abilities, 14 per faction, whichever roster you fight.

It stays out of Blizzard's way

A boss is only filled in when its Abilities tab would otherwise be empty. Anything Blizzard already documents, such as Ulduar and Black Temple, is left completely alone.
No navigation of its own. Instance pages, boss lists, loot, models, the expansion dropdown and search are all still Blizzard's. You find a legacy boss the same way you find a current one.
It reads no combat events, makes no decisions and automates nothing.

How to use it

Open the Encounter Journal as normal (Shift-J), pick a legacy raid, pick a boss. There is nothing to configure.

/lrj — open the journal on the raid tab
/lrj debug — data counts, matched instances, spell-ID coverage
/lrj dump — a copy-paste window with the full diagnostic state; include this if you report a display problem

Good to know

Damage figures are stripped from tooltips. Retail rescales legacy boss spells to current content, so the number shown is not what the boss hits for, and it changes with your own character's level. Blizzard's own Ulduar pages read the same way. Durations, percentages are kept, because those are the mechanic and do not scale. If you want the real figure, link the spell in chat and hover it on a character at the raid's own level.

Hard enrage timers are not listed. They end a pull rather than being something you play around, and Blizzard's own journal does not list them either. Enrages with a real trigger — Patchwerk below 5%, Magmadar, Huhuran below 30% — are all still there.

Every mechanic is sourced, from the game's own spell data and from encounter guides. A spell ID is rejected at runtime unless the spell it resolves to actually carries that ability's name, so a wrong ID falls back to the written description rather than showing an unrelated spell.
