What's new

Changelog

1.0.3

The window is redesigned to be easier to use. Your bindings, profiles, calibration and settings carry over unchanged.

  • Details bar under the keyboard: hover a key to see what it does in full, its type, any other keys that do the same thing, and what a click does (right-click unbinds, as before). A key's tooltip no longer repeats that: it is the game's own tooltip for a spell, or appears only to say why a key is locked. With nothing hovered, or once the mouse leaves the window, it shows the hint and the key colors
  • One Settings menu replaces the layout list, the View menu and the Calibrate button: keyboard layout, Calibrate keys, key blocks, display options, minimap button, window size and position, and the first-use tips. The toolbar keeps Profiles, Quick Keybind, Settings and Help
  • Short names on keys: game commands drop filler words, so a key reads Backpack or Strafe L instead of Toggl... or Strafe..., and the full name is in the tooltip and the details bar
  • Corner squares replace the S, C and A letters on a key that is also bound on another layer: blue for Shift, orange for Ctrl, purple for Alt. They no longer cover the key's label, the legend explains them, and the details bar names what the key does on each layer ("With Shift: Renew")
  • Solid panels: the window, the keyboard panel, the Profiles panel and the dialogs no longer let the game show through
  • Empty-slot keys are a quiet orange instead of red, so a new character's row of empty action bar keys doesn't look like an error
  • The status line no longer ends with a sentence that got cut off, and Mouse Wheel Down reads Wheel Dn
  • Abilities list replaces the Unbound abilities list. Filters above it show Unbound, All, Spells or Macros, and every row shows the keys that reach that ability, plainest first. The choice is remembered
  • Abilities rows have two lines: the name with its rank at the right, then every key that reaches it (up to five before a "+N") or Unbound. The Unbound filter stays one line, since it has no keys to show. Hovering a row lights its keys on the keyboard in the same blue as duplicate keys, and the Shift, Ctrl or Alt tab for keys on another layer
  • Plain labels: the first tab reads No modifier instead of Base, the line above the keyboard says No modifier, Shift or Ctrl + Shift, and Revert is now Undo all
  • First install asks which keyboard you use and which key blocks to show, once. Skip or Esc keeps what Keysmith guessed from your game's language. Existing installs aren't asked
  • Profiles panel: pick a profile in the list and a pane beside it describes it, shows what loading it would change (with the skip-ability-keys and keep-my-fixed-keys boxes) and has Load profile, Rename, Export and Delete. The panel opens in the middle of the window. Each row has three lines, the name, then class and game, then who saved it, when and how many keys in the same words as the pane, so nothing is cut off
  • Help is brought up to date: it is grouped into sections (binding keys, layers, looking things up, your keyboard and window, characters and sharing) and scrolls. It now covers the Abilities list filters, hovering a row to light its keys, the details bar, Quick Keybind, keyboard layouts and key blocks in Settings, color-blind colors, keeping characters on one profile and Ctrl+C for exports. A test checks that every Settings entry it names exists
  • Panels and popups can be moved: drag the Profiles panel, the Help panel, the setup step, a question or a text box by any empty part of it. It stays attached to the main window, and a question opens where you last left it
  • Resizing works from a sideways or an up-and-down drag of the grip. The whole window scales together, so keys and icons are never stretched, and it stops at the edge of the screen. Settings → Reset window size undoes it
  • Arrows in the game's text showed as an empty box, for example in "Manage profiles → Import" and in the list of changes a profile would make, because the game's font has no arrow. They are now > and ->, and a test keeps characters the font can't draw out of the addon
  • Keyboard navigation: Settings → Move around with the keyboard, or /keysmith keys. Arrow keys move between keys, Enter picks up or places, Delete unbinds, Esc stops
  • Color-blind friendly colors in Settings: orange, sky blue, pink, gray and vermilion for the five key types, which the legend follows
  • Character-specific bindings moved from above the keyboard into Settings, in a new Key bindings group beside the setting for new characters. The window still says which keys changes save to each time it opens. Panels use one dark color with the game's own grey border

1.0.2

  • Classic support: Keysmith now loads on Classic Era (including Season of Discovery), Anniversary, Titan and Mists Classic as well as Forever. Each client loads its own .toc (Keysmith_Camelot.toc is Forever's), and one download works on all of them. It has been tried in the game on Forever, Classic Era (Season of Discovery) and Anniversary; Titan and Mists Classic haven't been tried yet
  • Unbound abilities on Classic: the list now reads the Classic spellbook by tab, which the other clients' spellbook functions can't do, so your spells show up grouped by tab. Passives, hidden spells, spells you haven't learned yet, flyouts and other specializations' tabs are left out
  • All ranks in list only offers ranks you have learned
  • The game name a profile or an export records now names the Classic Era season, such as Season of Discovery 1.15.9. Forever is still just Forever

1.0.1

  • Character-specific bindings box above the keyboard: gives this character its own binding set or puts it back on the set shared by every character on the account, like the checkbox in the game's Key Bindings window, with the same confirmation before a character's own set is discarded. Binding a spell or a character macro while on the shared set asks first and offers to switch, so one class's spells don't land on everyone's keys
  • Profiles: Profiles → Save as keeps this character's bindings under a name such as Healing. Update <name> refreshes the profile this character last saved or loaded, and the window title and the menu name it and say when the keys have changed since. Pick a profile to see what loading it would change, with boxes to skip ability keys or keep your movement, targeting and interface keys, then Load as one undoable change, Rename, Export or Delete. The keys from before a load are kept, so Restore keys from before loading works even after logging out. Unticking Character-specific bindings saves the character's set first. /keysmith save [name] and /keysmith load <profile> do the same from a macro
  • Manage profiles lists every profile with Load, Rename, Export and Delete on its row, this character's own and its class's first, with a filter box, and says which game and realm each came from, such as Forever 1.16.0 · Forever PvP. The Profiles menu lists the ten likeliest and counts the rest. Profile names take their class colour and menu entries have tooltips
  • Export and import: Export current bindings in Manage profiles shows this character's bindings as text to copy and paste to a friend, and every profile has an Export button. Import there describes pasted text before you click and saves it as a profile; Import and load also puts it on the character
  • Follow a profile: Apply newer saves of <name> at login in the Profiles menu makes a character apply newer saves of its profile at login, with a chat line saying so and Undo available, so several characters can share one set. Other characters are told once when their keys differ. /keysmith follow toggles it
  • Loading on the shared bindings asks first, like dropping a spell does, and a followed profile is never applied to a character on the shared set, only mentioned
  • New characters get their own bindings: the first time Keysmith opens on a character still on the shared set, it gives it its own set, a copy of the shared one, and says so, so spells bound there stay put. View → New characters get their own bindings turns this off
  • A one-time tip points at Profiles after the first class spell is bound. /keysmith testdata [count|clear] fills the list with made-up profiles to try the menus with a big roster

1.0.0

First release, for WoW Forever (interface 16001).

  • On-screen keyboard showing each key's icon, binding name and spell rank
  • Shift, Ctrl and Alt layers with tabs, plus tabs you add for combinations such as Ctrl + Shift (right-click to rename or remove; saved between sessions)
  • Badges showing which keys have bindings on other layers, and hover highlighting of every key with the same binding
  • Drag and drop or click-to-bind for spells, macros, items and mounts; click a key to pick its binding up and move or swap it; right-click to unbind
  • A list of abilities with no key yet, grouped by spellbook tab, with search
  • Six keyboard layouts (QWERTZ, US, UK, Dvorak, Colemak, AZERTY), calibration for keys the game names differently, and optional navigation keys, numpad and Mouse 1/2
  • Undo, revert and a status line that describes every change
  • Shows which binding set (Account or Character) changes save to; in combat the keyboard dims and bindings wait until combat ends
  • Standard Blizzard dialog look, Help panel, tooltips on every control and a one-time first-use tip
  • Opens Blizzard's Quick Keybind mode and comes back when it closes
  • A minimap button with the Keysmith icon: left-click opens the window, right-click offers Quick Keybind mode and hiding the button, drag moves it around the minimap. View → Minimap button or /keysmith minimap hides it and brings it back
  • /keysmith and /ks slash commands, a key binding under AddOns, and an addon compartment entry with the Keysmith icon
