Hoverplate

Hoverplate

Shows a nameplate when hovering/mousing over an NPC or player.

Useful for quickly scouting the area in Classic Era/Vanilla where the nameplate distance can be short.  Also works in the retail version.

Some features
    * See if a unit is PvP flagged
        * Shows faction symbol for Alliance or Horde.
        * Shows players flagged Free-for-All (FFA)
    * See if a unit is in combat.
        * Shows as crossed swords.
        * If you heal or buff other players that are in combat you'll get put in combat with their enemies.
    * See if it's a caster.
        * Shows as a blue diamond (for the mana power type).
    * See active buffs and debuffs present.
    * See if it's friendly (green), hostile (red) or neutral (yellow).
    * See classification (elite, normal, rare, rare elite or world boss).
    * See level or a skull if 11+ higher.
    * See target of unit.
    * See player guild names (and guild titles).
    * See player class colors.
    * Shows if there's any remaining loot on a corpse
    * Shows how long ago an NPC spawned.

If you have Questie the hoverplate will show the Questie objective icons.

You can keybind to toggle the hoverplate showing.

The hoverplate can be configured to only show for specific types of units and in scenarios where you are in combat/have threat with the unit.

Customizing Hoverplate

Method 1 - Chat Command (All Versions)

Use one of the in-game chat commands (all versions of WoW):
/hop
/hoverplate

Method 2 - Game Menu (All Versions)

1. Press Esc
2. Click [Options] at the top.
3. Click [AddOns] tab.
4. Click Hoverplate
5. Click the [+] button to unfold subcategories.

Method 3 - AddOn Compartment/List (Retail Only)

1. Click the number below the calendar button (top right by default).
2. Click Hoverplate from the menu.

Keybindings

    * Keybind for toggling AddOn functionality on/off without a reload.
    * Keybind for toggling the showing of specific contexts such as "Dead NPC", "Dead Player", "Enemy Player Pet" and so on.

Note

The final version of this addon might be less flexible.  The options UI take up more code than the addon itself.

API for developers

The API allows for something like a WeakAura to toggle showing a hoverplate in specific contexts.
