HideBarTooltips

Hides the tooltips on your action, pet, and stance bars. And nothing else. Bags, gear, the spellbook, and the quest tracker keep theirs. Toggle each bar on or off, or hide them only in combat.

# Changelog

All notable changes to this addon are documented here.

## [2.0.2] - 2026-08-23

### Added

- Published on CurseForge. Tagged releases now upload there automatically
  alongside the GitHub release.

### Changed

- The release workflow packages through BigWigsMods/packager rather than
`git archive`. That is what makes the CurseForge upload possible: it
derives the supported game versions from `## Interface:` instead of
needing a version-id table maintained by hand.

No behaviour change in the addon itself.

## [2.0.1] - 2026-08-23

### Changed

- Finished the 2.0.0 rename in the prose. The README and the source
comments still described the addon in terms of "hotbars" — the exact
word 2.0.0 renamed away from — and now say which bars they mean.

No functional change: the packaged addon differs from 2.0.0 only in
comments and README text.

## [2.0.0] - 2026-08-22

### Changed

- **Renamed from HideHotbarTooltips to HideBarTooltips.** "Hotbar" is not
the vocabulary the game uses — WoW says action bars — and the addon has
covered the pet and stance bars since 1.2.0, so the old name was both
  off-idiom and too narrow.
- The slash command is now `/hbt`. `/hht` still works as an alias.
- The addon folder, the TOC filename and the saved-variables table all
  changed with the name.

### Upgrading from 1.x

Two manual steps, both one-time:

1. **Delete the old `HideHotbarTooltips` folder** from `Interface/AddOns`.
Leaving it installs the addon twice — both copies hook the tooltip and
   both add a compartment entry.
2. **Settings reset to defaults.** The client loads saved variables from a
file named after the addon, so a renamed addon cannot read the old one.
   With three settings and a fresh install, reconfiguring takes a moment;
the alternative was carrying the wrong name forever.

## [1.2.0] - 2026-08-22

### Added

- Pet bar and stance bar coverage. Those bars fill their tooltips through
`SetPetAction` and `SetShapeshift` rather than `SetAction`, so they needed
  hooks of their own.
- A settings panel under **Options → AddOns → Hide Hotbar Tooltips**, built
on the 10.0 Settings API so it looks like the rest of the game's options.
It carries the mode and a checkbox per bar. `/hht config` opens it.
- An addon compartment entry: left-click cycles the mode, right-click opens
the settings, hovering reports the current state.
- Per-bar control — action, pet and stance can each be covered or left alone
  independently, from the panel.
- A behaviour test suite (`lua tests/run.lua`) covering migrations, mode
switching, per-bar coverage, combat transitions and the panel binding,
running against a stubbed client. Wired into CI.

### Changed

- Combat-transition handling no longer inspects the hovered button to work
out which bar it belongs to. The id now comes from the hook's own
arguments, which is both simpler and immune to what any given bar addon
  stores on its frames.
- Upgrading from 1.1.x enables the two new bars. That version could only ever
hide the action bars, and covering every hotbar is what installing this
  addon asks for.

## [1.1.0] - 2026-08-22

### Added

- `/hht auto` hides hotbar tooltips only while you are in combat, and shows
them the rest of the time. Combat transitions are handled while the cursor
is already resting on a button: the tooltip is hidden the moment combat
starts, and rebuilt when combat ends if you never moved off.
- `/hht on`, `/hht off` and `/hht status` for setting the mode explicitly and
  reporting it. `/hht help` (or `/hht ?`) lists everything.
- `/hidehotbartooltips` as a long-form alias for `/hht`.
- `## IconTexture:` and `## Category-enUS: Action Bars`, so the addon shows an
icon and files under Action Bars in the in-game AddOns list. The icon is a
64x64 PNG; the 1024x1024 master it is cut from lives in `art/` and is left
  out of the packaged zip.
- Localization scaffolding in `Locales.lua`. English is the source of truth
and the fallback, so translations can be added a key at a time.
- A `Lint` workflow that parses every Lua file with 5.1 — the version the
client runs — and runs `luacheck` against a `.luacheckrc` declaring the
Blizzard API the addon is allowed to call. Releases now depend on it, so a
tag cannot publish code that would fail to load.

### Changed

- Bare `/hht` still toggles tooltips on and off, unchanged from 1.0.x.
- The saved setting moved from a boolean `enabled` to a three-state `mode`.
Existing saved variables are migrated on load, so the mode you were in
  carries over.

## [1.0.2] - 2026-08-22

### Added

- `## X-Website:` pointing at the GitHub repository.

## [1.0.1] - 2026-08-22

### Changed

- Updated `## Interface:` to `120100` for WoW patch 12.1. No behaviour
changes; this only clears the client's "out of date" flag.

## [1.0.0] - 2026-08-22

### Added

- Initial release. Hides action bar tooltips via a `hooksecurefunc`
post-hook on `GameTooltip:SetAction`, leaving bag, gear, spellbook, quest
  and unit frame tooltips untouched.
- `/hht` toggles hotbar tooltips on and off; the choice is saved per account
in `HideHotbarTooltipsDB` and persists across sessions.
