Hear Kitty
Last Updated: Apr 19, 2018 Game Version: 7.3.5
Hear Kitty plays soothing and distinct orchestral sounds as you gain and spend your combat resources. It's like having your own theme music! You'll hear tones as you gain combo points or stacks of your buffs, and when you hear the final note played, you'll know it's time for a finishing move. Never watch for little red dots or buff stacks again!
These classes and specs work with Hear Kitty:
- Druids (in cat form): combo points
- Rogues: combo points
- Elemental and Enhancement shamans: maelstrom
- Paladins: holy power
- Shadow priests: insanity
- Warlocks: soul shards
- Monks: chi
- Arcane mages: arcane charges
- Frost mages with Glacial Spike: icicles
- Vehicles with combo points (such as the drakes in Eye of Eternity)

Ideal for pandaren monks, add a few new Hear Kitty sound options with an Asian flair.
I would like to thank you so much for this addon. Playing both my feral druid and rogue are so much easier. Listening for the sounds now is second nature. Terrific idea, terrific addon.
Hi! Thanks for the kind words. :) Glad you like it!
I don't hear this ingame. How do I activate? Thanks
Hear Kitty is on by default after it's installed; the options are in Interface Options > AddOns > Hear Kitty. What class and spec are you? Not all specs are supported.
7.1.5 increased Anticipation from 8 cp max to 10. Was getting errors but changing KittyCurrentMaxStacks to 10 fixed it np.
Thanks a bunch for the heads-up! I haven't killed anything on my rogue yet. That sounds like the right fix—I'll take a look and issue a fix.
A fix is in Hear Kitty 1.7.5. I'm going to look into improving the way that Anticipation sounds this weekend, but this at least gets rid of the error.
Any chance this can play sounds when bleeds are expiring? Been looking forever for an addon that does that.
Hi! No, Hear Kitty doesn't do that, but that's an interesting idea. It looks like TellMeWhen can be set up to play a sound when the bleed expires—right-click on an icon tracking the bleed and then switch to the Notifications tab, then Sound. I imagine WeakAuras can do the same thing, but I've always used TellMeWhen. Hope that helps!
I've been using this for years and just wanted to comment on how much I love and rely on it. I don't even look at combo points anymore, I listen for them. Genius :)
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate it. :) <3
This isn't firing off properly with rogues, but I am having a hard time duplicating the error. It sometimes forgets to play the final sound, especially when multiple combo points come in at once.
Additionally, rogues can now get up to 8 combo points at any given time. Would it be possible to support this? Right now we only have sounds in the symphony pack for 5 CPs.
This addon has been 1 of my essential addons since you first created it. I have no idea how I would play wow without it!
Hi! Anything you can do to help track down when exactly it happens would be helpful. But it's been a common problem over the years after a major patch that sound effects in general have gotten skipped during times when a lot of sounds are being played; it's generally been a Blizzard bug whenever Hear Kitty sounds have been skipped (and it's also happened for DBM and other sound-heavy addons). So that's my best guess.
1) Do you use the "control Hear Kitty sounds the same as in-game sounds" setting on or off? (It's off by default.)
2) What is your Sound Channels setting set to in System > Sound?
How would you want 8 combo points to work with Anticipation? Just count up to 8 different tones exactly the way it works with 5 right now? I used Anticipation myself in the past until I switched over to Subtlety in 7.0, and it works the way that I thought was most helpful. But I'm interested in hearing more about what you would prefer to be different, and why. (Does knowing you have 7 CPs make you play differently than if you have 5?)
Thanks for the fast reply! I will see if I can find some more concrete information on when a sound is skipped. I can't even get it to do it now that I am trying to, so it is best ignored on your end for now.
As for situations with more than 5 CPs, I see a couple ways it could be implemented. The first would be to add the sounds for 6-8 (or just 6 with deeper stratagem). I don't necessarily listen to every tone, but I do listen for the endcaps. To me the beauty of this addons methodology is that you don't have to be paying perfect attention to know exactly where you are in your rotation, as the tones are incremental, giving you an intuitive understanding of the rotation's rhythm.
Another way I could see it working is to space the CPs out with a beginning, middle, and end point. Maybe like a 3 tone system? That gets a bit confusing though when you have an even number of points, and I haven't thought of a solution. This is sort of why the first implementation sticks out in my mind a bit more.
Really love this mod.. but its not doing the thing that I REALLY want it to do. I want it to REPLACE the annoying soul shard sound. Is this possible?
Thanks.
Hmmm, it's not possible for a regular addon to replace in-world game sounds, but I believe it's still possible to manually replace them with some trial-and-error. Long ago I got so tired of the stupid toy train that I replaced all of the races' /train sounds with silence. I do see this package here called AnnoyingSounds that's probably just a zip file full of silent sound effects. The trick is that you'd need to find the name of the soul shard sound effect that you hate, and put a copy of an empty sound file there.
For example:
World of Warcraft\Data\enUS\Sound\Spells\Fizzle\FizzleFireA.wav
Unfortunately, I don't know how you find the names of those sound files other than just trial-and-error on Wowhead, or searching to see if someone else already did what you're trying to do.
Hope that helps!
what annoying soul shard sound? ive played warlocks for years and never noticed any sound....am i that unobservant?
I haven't noticed a sound either. Shadow Bolt / Demonbolt make a sound, but I don't hear anything when I generate a shard through, say, Demonwrath.
Possible to add support for Frost Mage's Icicle buff when Glacial Spike is talented? Might be a niche request, but I've been tracking the buff like combo points already and am missing the soothing tones I'm used to as a rogue main.
Also, great work on this addon in general. I really enjoy having the extra layer of feedback, makes the game way more engaging.
Done! I added this in Hear Kitty 1.7.4. Hear Kitty will only play tones for Icicles when Glacial Spike is talented, not for other frost mages. (I'm not familiar with Frost, but it seemed like that was the only situation in which it made much sense.)
