What's new

Changelog

1.15.0

  • Added a fourth Options checkbox, Show Low Level Quest Givers. Unlike Include low-level quests (Discover's own filter), this one reads and writes Blizzard's real minimap tracking setting directly, the same one under the minimap's Tracking menu. It affects your map/minimap in general, not what Discover picks from.

1.14.0

  • Discover can now send you to a standalone quest, not just a full questline. Any quest with its own map pin that isn't already part of a questline is fair game, filtered by the exact same rules as before: not daily or repeatable, not already completed (including on another character in your Warband), and not on your don't-repeat cooldown. Works the same everywhere else too, tracking, waypoints, TomTom, My Questlines.
  • Fixed the My Questlines progress count getting stuck at its old value if the window was left open while turning in a quest; it only updated on close and reopen before. It now refreshes live.
  • Fixed standalone quests barely ever turning up (about 1 in 50 discoveries) -- they were being pulled from the wrong source, a pool of quests already in your log, not the actual pool of offerable quests. Fixed to read from the right one, so they should come up much more often now.
  • A pinned result's location line now notes that the pin can occasionally be off, since it's pulled straight from the game's own data (not something this addon can independently verify).
  • Removed the last bit of chat spam: Discover no longer prints anything to chat at all. The result card already shows everything a chat line would have repeated.
  • Added an Options window (/hd options, or the link next to My Questlines) to turn questlines or standalone quests off entirely if you only want one or the other. At least one has to stay on.
  • Added a third Options checkbox, Include low-level quests, on by default. Turning it off excludes anything trivial for your current level.
  • The Discover window, My Questlines, and Options can no longer be dragged off-screen.

1.13.0

  • Added a fallback for the blank-spot problem: a small slice of quests were sending you to an empty location because the live game data simply had no waypoint to give. A new built-in dataset now covers roughly 16,000 quests as a backup source, only kicking in when the live pin is missing, never overriding one that's already there. It can't help with quests given by an escort or roaming NPC (Fiona's Caravan in Eastern Plaguelands, for example), since that's a moving target no fixed data can capture.

1.12.0 (Initial Release)

Hated Discovery finds the questlines you never finished. Hit Discover and it rolls a random zone from a cached map of the entire game, old expansions included, pulls every questline available there, throws out anything already completed (including anything Warband-completed on another character, and anything daily or repeatable that would just come right back), and sends you to whatever's left. No expansion filter, no level filter: a max-level character can get routed to a starting zone just as easily as the current patch.

What you get:

  • A precise waypoint, not just a zone name. It's the exact map pin Blizzard's own quest-offer icons use, plus a TomTom Crazy Arrow if you have TomTom installed.
  • Don't-repeat memory, so the same questline won't come back up for 7 days (tunable, per character).
  • My Questlines, a running list of everything you've accepted, with live completion counts, so you can come back to it later.
  • A hand-illustrated card UI, not a stock window skin.
  • An Addon Compartment icon next to the minimap for one-click access.

How to use it:

Command Effect
/hd Open or close the Discover window
/hd discover Roll a new questline
/hd list Open My Questlines
/hd cooldown [days] Show or set the don't-repeat cooldown
/hd forget Clear the don't-repeat memory
/hd rebuild Force-rebuild the cached zone list
/hd status Check that your saved data is loading correctly

See the README on GitHub for the technical details behind how any of this works.
