🔍 About the Addon
Hated Discovery keeps a cached map of every zone in the game, from the oldest starting zones to whatever the current patch just added. Hit Discover and it rolls a random zone, pulls every questline and standalone quest available there, throws out anything you've already finished, and sends you to whatever's left, complete with a super-tracked waypoint arrow pointing the way.
No expansion filter, no level filter. A max-level character can get routed to a low-level zone just as easily as to current-patch content. That's the point. This is about surfacing everything you've never actually finished, not steering you toward what's "appropriate" for your level.
Perfect for:
- Completionists hunting down the last untouched questlines scattered across old expansions
- Anyone who wants a change of pace from their usual daily/weekly loop
- Explorers who'd rather get pointed somewhere than dig through Wowhead for "what am I missing"
🎯 Key Features Dashboard
| 🗺️ Full-Game Zone Cache | 🎲 True Random Discovery |
|---|---|
| • Walks the entire zone map tree once, from the world root down, and saves it to SavedVariables • Auto-rebuilds after a patch changes the build number, or on demand with /hd rebuild |
• Rolls a random zone, then a random incomplete questline within it • Skips daily and repeatable quests: they never stay "completed," so they're not a real discovery • Comes up empty? Silently retries a different zone, up to 18 times, before erroring out |
| 📍 Real Pinpointed Waypoints | 💬 Clear Chat Readout |
|---|---|
| • Super-tracks the quest itself, not a plain map pin, same as tracking anything already in your log • Reads Blizzard's own navigation engine for the location line, the same source as the "Take the portal to X" banner text, when it has one to give • Haven't picked up the quest yet? Also drops an actual map pin on its exact start location as a visual aid, using the same coordinate data Blizzard's own world map uses for quest-offer icons, not a guess • Have TomTom? Also queues a TomTom waypoint with its Crazy Arrow on the same spot (fully optional, does nothing if TomTom isn't installed) • Take Me There re-applies the tracking and opens the map straight to it • Flags it when the start might be a floor above/below the pin (WoW doesn't expose indoor level data to addons) |
• Shows the actual starting quest's title, not just the questline name, something to search for if the pin drops you somewhere with no one obviously around • No chat spam: nothing prints when you Discover, the card already shows everything • Location line on the card is a live waypoint hint, a pinned-map note, or the zone name, whichever fits |
| 🔁 Don't-Repeat Memory | 🖼️ Hand-Illustrated Card |
|---|---|
| • Every questline you're sent to is remembered per character, so a fresh Discover won't just loop you through the same handful of picks, and an alt doesn't inherit a main's memory • Default cooldown is 7 days. Tune it with /hd cooldown <days> (0 disables it) or wipe it instantly with /hd forget• Also skips anything completed via Warband on a different character, same rule Blizzard's own map uses |
• A brass-bordered card with a compass-rose watermark, not a stock window skin • Real progress bar showing how many quests in the questline you've already finished • Three buttons once a result lands: Take Me There, Accept, and Pick Another |
| 📜 My Questlines |
|---|
| • Hit Accept on a result to add it to a persistent, per-character list. The button toggles to Untrack once it's on there • Open it with /hd list or the link in the card's corner: each row shows a live completed/total count, a pin to re-track and open the map, and an x to remove it• Entries stay until you remove them yourself. Nothing on this list ever gets auto-deleted |
🎛️ Slash Commands
| Command | Functionality |
|---|---|
/hd | Toggles the Discover window. |
/hd discover | Same as clicking Discover, keybind-friendly. |
/hd rebuild | Force-rebuilds the cached zone list. |
/hd cooldown [days] | Shows or sets the don't-repeat cooldown. 0 disables it. |
/hd forget | Clears the don't-repeat memory immediately. |
/hd list | Toggles the My Questlines window. |
The window also has an icon in the Addon Compartment (the "AddOns" dropdown next to the minimap). Click it any time to toggle the window, hover for a quick tooltip.
📊 Pro-Tips
🗺️ First run builds the cache
The very first time you log in, or the first time you hit Discover before a cache exists, the addon walks the full map tree once and saves it. That one-time build is why the very first Discover can take an extra moment.
🎯 No level filtering, on purpose
A max-level character can get routed to a level 12 zone and vice versa. That's intentional, not a bug. This is about discovering what you've missed, not staying in your current level range.
