GuardianChat

GuardianChat is a standalone, local incoming-chat filter for World of Warcraft: Forever. It hides matching messages before supported chat windows display them, without an external application, cloud service, or saved conversation history.

Features

• Filters requests for real names, age, location, school, phone numbers, photos, and personal contact details.
• Detects common off-platform contact requests, explicit language, secrecy, threats, and suspicious links.
• English-first rules recognize common abbreviations, leetspeak, spaced letters, and selected Unicode lookalikes.
• Filter or Hide all settings for supported channel groups, including guild chat. No trusted-person bypass.
• Experimental filtering for the native Guild/Communities chat-history window.
• Settings, a local rule checker, synthetic self-test, and a coverage-status badge.

Important coverage limits

This is a best-effort text filter, not guaranteed protection or a tamper-proof parental control. Rule-based detection can miss unfamiliar wording, other languages, implications, and requests split across messages. Players can disable the addon or edit its settings.

Blizzard chat lockdown can prevent addon filters from receiving readable messages. Such messages may appear unfiltered. The badge warns when lockdown is active; GuardianChat does not bypass it or hide all chat during lockdown.

Voice, outgoing messages, mail, player names, guild MOTD, calendar entries, and other unsupported displays are outside coverage. Other chat addons may render messages independently. EllesmereUIChat custom bubbles must be disabled. Native Guild/Communities integration is experimental and reports detected gaps.

Default display settings

With safety settings enabled, login/reload disables Blizzard chat bubbles and chat text-to-speech, and enables Blizzard profanity filtering. Turning that option off or uninstalling does not restore previous values; restore wanted settings yourself in WoW Settings.

Only configuration is saved. GuardianChat does not keep chat logs, message histories, or blocked-message counters. The included README explains setup, commands, testing, and limitations.
