GoblinPlates v0.2.25 - Cross-Client Compatibility Hotfix
Update Date: September 28, 2026
After realizing some compatibility work had been applied to separate client installations instead of a single canonical source tree, I went back through GoblinPlates and rebuilt the release around one unified master codebase.
v0.2.25 was then personally tested across the supported WoW clients to verify that the same GoblinPlates package behaves consistently across Retail, Classic Era, Classic, TBC Anniversary, and WoW Forever.
The goal of this release is to ensure cross-client compatibility comes from one shared source, with client-specific handling only where Blizzard's APIs or protected-value behavior actually differ.
- Unified Retail, Forever, Classic Era, TBC Anniversary, and Classic behind one shared codebase. Retail remains the base implementation; client-specific compatibility code activates only for the detected game flavor.
- Fixed Forever registering unsupported spell-learning events and protected aura scans that could trigger Lua errors or taint.
- Fixed protected execute-marker positioning and removed restricted nameplate measurements that could taint target-arrow updates.
- Fixed target arrows permanently reserving empty execute-icon space. They now move outward only when the execute lane is active or a PvP-side icon exists.
- Added full-name and first-plus-last-initial player-name options, including two-line full-name wrapping and matching range-text placement.
- Fixed Forever's native Blizzard level leaking through GoblinPlates plates.
- Fixed Classic tap-denied coloring affecting friendlies and players, and cleared false absorb displays from tapped NPCs.
- Corrected Forever nameplate-distance handling for its approximately 41-yard ordinary native limit while preserving Blizzard's target-distance exemption.
- Standardized all supported clients on one multi-client addon package, with compatibility behavior selected automatically at runtime.
Known Issues
- Classic enemy nameplates currently remain permanently enabled and cannot be toggled off.
- This issue is already identified and will be addressed in a follow-up patch.
- In WoW Forever, range values remain accurate through approximately 40-45 yards.
- Untargeted nameplates behave correctly at their normal distance limits.
- Targeted nameplates can remain visible out to approximately 100 yards, but the displayed range value currently does not update beyond the 40-45 yard range ceiling.
