GMUI
GMUI is a clean, modern UI replacement built specifically for World of Warcraft: Forever.
GMUI is designed around a simple idea: modernize the parts of the default World of Warcraft interface that matter most while keeping the UI clean, responsive, readable, and out of the way during gameplay.
Rather than assembling a collection of unrelated addons, GMUI provides a cohesive interface where each component shares the same visual language, configuration system, and layout philosophy.
Features
Nameplates
GMUI includes a customizable nameplate system designed to provide the information you need without replacing Blizzard's underlying targeting behavior.
- Custom Enemy Nameplates — Clean health bars with configurable names, levels, classification, colors, sizing, and positioning.
- Native Click Targeting — Nameplates preserve Blizzard's native click-targeting behavior rather than implementing a separate targeting system.
- Target Indicators — Multiple visual indicator styles make your current target immediately recognizable.
- Targeted Plate Scaling — Optionally enlarge your current target for additional visibility.
- Cast Bars — Integrated nameplate cast bars keep enemy casts attached directly to their plate.
- Aura Tracking — Display relevant buffs and debuffs directly on nameplates with configurable filtering.
- Raid Markers — GMUI raid-target markers integrate directly into the nameplate layout.
- Threat Indicators — Role-aware threat feedback provides additional information during combat.
- Smart Blizzard Integration — Blizzard elements are hidden only when GMUI is replacing them and restored when the corresponding GMUI feature is disabled.
Nameplates are currently opt-in and can be enabled through GMUI's Options.
Unit Frames
- Custom Player and Target Frames — Clean unit frames designed for quick readability without unnecessary clutter.
- Contextual Target Information — Raid markers, leader status, PvP status, quest information, classification, auras, and target-of-target information appear when relevant.
- Custom Cast Bars — Player and target cast bars include interruptibility information and player latency visualization.
- Flexible Positioning — Configurable anchors and offsets allow individual elements to be positioned to fit your UI.
- Live Configuration Preview — Unit Frame previews change with the section you're configuring, making it easier to see changes before returning to gameplay.
Action Bars
- Custom Action Bars — A cohesive replacement for the default action-bar presentation.
- Stance and Pet Bars — Integrated into the same GMUI visual style.
- Experience and Reputation Tracking — Matching status bars keep progression information consistent with the rest of the interface.
- Quick Keybind Support — Configure keybinds without leaving the GMUI experience.
- Combat-Safe Blizzard Integration — Designed around Forever's protected UI and combat restrictions.
Auras
GMUI provides custom aura presentation designed to match the rest of the interface while retaining the information needed during gameplay.
Bags & Bank
Custom bag and bank interfaces provide a cleaner inventory experience while maintaining the same visual style as the rest of GMUI.
Objective Tracker
GMUI includes a redesigned Objective Tracker that integrates quest and objective information into the overall interface instead of leaving it visually disconnected from the rest of the UI.
Minimap
A streamlined Minimap presentation removes unnecessary visual clutter while keeping the functionality you expect readily available.
Swing Timers
Integrated melee and ranged swing timers match the rest of the GMUI interface and provide clear timing information without requiring a separate visual style.
Customization
GMUI is designed to be configurable without requiring users to edit Lua files.
The in-game Options interface provides controls for supported components, including:
- Sizing and scaling
- Anchoring and positioning
- Fonts and status-bar textures
- Colors
- Component visibility
- Nameplate behavior
- Aura behavior
- Target presentation
- Live previews for supported components
GMUI also supports LibSharedMedia-3.0 when installed, allowing compatible fonts and status-bar textures registered by SharedMedia to be selected directly through GMUI.
LibSharedMedia is optional and is not required to use GMUI.
Blizzard UI Integration
GMUI does not try to replace Blizzard's interface by brute force.
Where possible, GMUI works with the underlying Blizzard UI architecture while replacing the visual presentation. Blizzard elements are suppressed only where GMUI provides the corresponding replacement, and native systems such as click targeting are preserved where appropriate.
This approach helps keep GMUI responsive and combat-safe while reducing conflicts with the Forever client.
Built for WoW: Forever
GMUI is developed specifically for the World of Warcraft: Forever client and API.
Compatibility decisions, Blizzard frame handling, combat restrictions, and new features are researched and tested against Forever rather than simply adapting an existing Retail UI and hoping it works.
Beta Development
GMUI is currently in active beta development.
Core systems are tested both through automated regression testing and directly in the Forever client, but new features may continue to receive adjustments as they see wider real-world use.
Bug reports and feedback are welcome, especially when accompanied by BugSack/BugGrabber output when an error occurs.
Design Philosophy
The goal of GMUI is not to replace every piece of the World of Warcraft interface simply because it can.
The goal is to build a UI that feels like one interface — clean, cohesive, readable, customizable, and useful.
Every component should earn its place on the screen.
