New: trinket tier lists
A third window, for the question a gear plan cannot answer — which of these trinkets is better than which.
- Rank the season's trinkets S, A, B, C or D for a class and spec, with two BiS slots for the pair you would actually wear. Every tier holds as many trinkets as you put in it, or none.
- Every trinket tooltip in the game then names the tier you put it in, in that tier's colour, prefixed by the class, spec and list it came from. Bags, loot rolls, the Great Vault, chat links, the Auction House — the same places your gear presets already appear.
- Tier lists are their own presets, kept separate from gear sets. New, Rename and Delete work as they do for gear, and switching spec switches to that spec's lists.
- An edit is the save. There is no Save button: adding a trinket to a tier writes it, and the tooltips update immediately.
- An item belongs to one tier. Adding it to another moves it, rather than leaving two tooltip lines disagreeing about the same trinket. BiS refuses a third rather than pushing one out — which of the two to drop is your call.
The tier colours are the ones WoW already uses for legendary, epic, rare, uncommon and poor, so the scale reads without a legend. BiS is gold.
The item picker
- It defaults to the highest rank an item can reach, instead of rank 1. A planner is for what you are aiming at; defaulting to the bottom of the best track made every plan four clicks of correction. Loot from a raid's final bosses defaults to its above-track rank, which is the whole reason that rank exists.
- Picking a different item now re-checks the chosen track and rank. Clicking a raid drop and then a crafted one carried the raid's upgrade track across into a band the crafted item cannot use. Nothing complained: the slot simply resolved to nothing and showed a dash where its item level should be.
Known limitations
- Only this season's trinkets can be ranked. They come from the same database the gear picker uses, so a trinket from an earlier expansion has no entry to rank. The search window already shows the shape of the answer if this matters later — a second source list.
- No ordering within a tier. The trinkets in S are in S; they are not ranked first, second, third among themselves.
- Trinkets only. The window is built around one slot deliberately. A tier list of boots is a different idea and would need to answer what it is for.
