What's new

FriendGroups Version 13.0.1 Changelog

Nicknames Now Live in the Battle.net Note

  • One nickname, everywhere: Setting a nickname writes @[Nickname] into that friend's Battle.net note. Because the note belongs to the Battle.net account rather than to one game install, your nicknames now show in the Battle.net desktop and mobile apps next to the friend's name, and appear on every WoW client automatically — Retail, MoP Classic, BC Anniversary, Classic Era — with no export code, no import, no setup.

One-Time Migration, On Your Terms

  • You're asked once, after login. Accepting pushes your existing nicknames into notes at a throttled pace; declining changes nothing and asks again next session.

Known Alts Panel Rebuilt

  • Predictable structure: Fixed order, broadest identifier first. Lines appear only when they have content, multiple guilds or groups join with commas, and any free text you wrote in the note is preserved. Auto guild is read from the group the friend is genuinely filed under, so it can't disagree with the list.
  • An exact mirror across all three surfaces — contact list, guild roster and Communities. Previously the guild and Communities paths leaked the raw @[Nickname] tag because the note was being cleaned at the caller rather than at the point of use; that's now normalised in one place, so no future entry point can drift.

Display

  • @[…] syntax is hidden throughout the addon's UI.
  • Nicknames remain searchable, and nicknamed friends still sort to the top of their presence tier.

Auto-Accept No Longer Happens Behind Your Back

  • You get five seconds and a way out: Previously, turning on Auto Accept Group Invite meant you were in the group before you'd read the name. Now an invite raises a FriendGroups-branded toast in the centre of your screen — who invited you, a 5-second countdown, and Accept Now / Decline buttons. Ignore it and it accepts, exactly as before.
  • Hovering pauses the countdown, so you're never racing a timer you didn't notice.
  • Party Sync works the same way: Same toast, same 5 seconds, same buttons — so both automations behave identically instead of one being silent.

Fixed: Imported Settings Could Strand the Contact List at the Wrong Width on Classic

  • Importing a retail profile on Classic no longer touches the list width. The list renders at its correct default; everything else in the profile imports as normal.
  • Anyone already stuck fixes themselves by logging in. The bad value is simply ignored from now on, so the list returns to normal width on the next login. No reset, no reinstall, no manual file editing.
  • Backups stay complete in both directions. A profile that passes through a Classic character still remembers the retail width choice, so re-importing it on retail restores Wide/Normal exactly as it was. Existing backup strings all remain valid.
  • Retail is unchanged. The width menu and all three modes behave exactly as before.

Other Bugs Found and Fixed

  • Migration aborted claiming your friend list wasn't loaded: C_BattleNet.GetFriendNum isn't a real API and reads as zero friends. Now routed through one Compat helper using the documented BNGetNumFriends.
  • /fg debug favourite count always reported 0: The same pre-existing bug, unrelated to nicknames; now correct.
  • "0 nicknames saved" after an import: Not actually a failure, your nicknames were already in the notes (that's the point; Battle.net carries them), so there was nothing to write. It now reports "already saved in your Battle.net notes", and skips the prompt entirely in that case.
  • Clients that can't write Battle.net notes now give a clear message instead of failing silently.

Localization

  • Twelve new strings translated across all 12 locales (deDE, enGB, enUS, esES, esMX, frFR, itIT, koKR, ptBR, ruRU, zhCN, zhTW), with guild labels matched to each locale's existing phrasing, and the new toast text and buttons included.
  • Verified at an identical 172 keys per file with format specifiers intact, so no language falls back to English or errors on a message.
