# FrEnNames

**Keep place names, dungeon names and NPC family names in English on the French client. Everything else stays in French.**

If you play World of Warcraft in French but prefer the original English names (Stormwind, Ironforge, The Deadmines, Windrunner), this addon does exactly that and nothing more. Quests, spells, items and the interface remain in French.

## What it changes

- **Zones, cities, villages and sub-zones**: the zone banner, the minimap text and the world map (breadcrumb, dropdown list and hover label).
- **Dungeons and raids**: "Les Mortemines" becomes "The Deadmines".
- **NPC family names**: in tooltips and dialogue. "Sylvanas Coursevent" becomes "Sylvanas Windrunner".
- **Quest and dialogue text**: names are replaced inside sentences, in the default UI and in Immersion. "Rendez-vous aux portes de Hurlevent" becomes "Rendez-vous aux portes de Stormwind".

## You choose what changes

Type `/fren` to open the settings window:

- Search by name, in French or in English.
- Browse a tree: World > Continent > Zone > District.
- Tick a name to show it in English, untick it to keep it in French. Ticking a parent changes everything below it.
- "Where am I?" jumps to your current zone.

You can also open it from the minimap button, the addon compartment, or Options > AddOns. Right-click the minimap button to pause the addon and see the game in French for a moment.

## Commands

- `/fren` : settings window
- `/fren pause` : pause or resume
- `/fren minimap` : show or hide the minimap button
- `/fren options` : open the Options > AddOns panel
- `/fren etat` : current status

## Good to know

- French client (frFR) only. Built for Retail 12.1.5.
- Names engraved in the map artwork are images and cannot be changed.
- Nameplates and the target frame are not modified: unit names are protected in combat.
- NPC tooltips are only processed outside of combat.
- Other addons that recognize zones by their French name may stop matching them. If so, pause FrEnNames or turn off the "Banner and minimap" layer in the settings window.
- A few names that have two possible English spellings are left in French inside sentences.
- Names come from the game's own French and English data tables, not from a hand-typed list. A small override file lets you fix or exclude a word.

FrEnNames affiche en anglais les noms de lieux, de donjons et de familles de PNJ sur un client français, le reste du jeu restant en français. `/fren` ouvre la fenêtre de réglages : recherche, arborescence monde > continent > zone, et choix nom par nom de ce qui reste en français.
