Forever Chat Filter

Standalone addon for Forever beta (Interface 16001). Hides new chat messages containing any phrase on your blocklist. It starts enabled with an empty list.

Do not put quotes around a phrase. Add and remove accept the entire remainder of the command, including spaces. Remove uses the exact phrase, ignoring English letter case. Settings apply immediately and save on normal reload/logout, per account.

Matching is a literal substring anywhere in the message, with English letter case ignored. boost also matches boosting; punctuation such as [, ., % and + is literal, never a pattern. Any one match hides the entire line. Item/spell links are matched by their visible labels, ignoring hidden link IDs and color/texture codes. The filter does not inspect sender names or channel labels. Lua's standard lowercase function does not provide full Unicode case folding. Up to 100 phrases of 240 bytes each are supported.

Applies to standard chat types using Blizzard's message-event filter: channels, say/yell, whispers, guild, party/raid and client-supported system/loot/other chat events. This includes the local display of your own messages when routed through those events. It does not unsend chat, block delivery to others, edit the ignore list, change addon communication, erase existing scrollback, or suppress speech bubbles/other addons that bypass these chat filters. /fcf off pauses filtering while retaining your list.

Install the ForeverChatFilter folder under the beta client's Interface/AddOns, restart WoW so it discovers the new addon, and enable Forever Chat Filter. Finish any active AH scan and save it before restarting. This addon has no ForeverScan dependency.

Uses Blizzard's public ChatFrameUtil.AddMessageEventFilter, with ChatFrame_AddMessageEventFilter as the legacy fallback. API checked against pinned client source. Automated offline checks cover matching, pass-through, saving, API compatibility and duplicate registration; in-game display remains to be checked in the beta.

Development

Run the standalone checks from the repository root with Lua installed:

The tests use a simulated client; no game files, chat logs or account data are needed.

To install from this repository, copy only the ForeverChatFilter directory into the client's Interface/AddOns directory. The repository itself should remain outside the game installation.
