Fireside: Party Kudos

Thank your party as it happens and at the end: sparks from the Hearth mid-run, then a campfire where everyone from the run gathers for kudos and private notes. A Mirror shows what others told you. /fire

Fireside: Party Kudos

Thank the people you run dungeons with, in the moment and at the end. Fireside turns a pickup group into a party that remembers each other.

Most dungeon groups end the same way: the last boss dies, someone says "ty", and everyone scatters. Fireside gives the run a proper ending. During the run, a small strip on your screen lets you send quick thanks the moment something happens ("Nice pull!", "Clutch heal!"). When the last boss falls, the whole party gathers round a campfire: everyone who was part of the run, even the ones who left. You thank people with kudos the whole party sees fly across the fire. If something could go better next time, you can say so privately, kindly and only to them.

  • Praise in public, critique in private. Kudos are seen by the party and travel with people as what they're known for. Anything critical goes only to the person it's about.
  • Built on what actually happened. Fireside reads each fight (who interrupted, who healed whom, who held the mobs) and suggests the thanks that fit.
  • Built for WoW Forever. It never touches the combat log, so it never gets blocked.

Features

The Hearth: thanks in the moment

While you're in a party, a slim strip shows a portrait for each member, with a small fire at its end.

  • Left-click someone for a row of sparks, small thanks you send with one click: Nice pull, Clutch heal, Good kick, Good crowd control, Thanks for the cleanse, Thanks for the buff, Thanks for the rez, Thanks for the summon, Thanks for waiting, Thanks for the quest, Good call. Everyone in the party with Fireside sees it light up on that person's portrait.
  • Sparks for you flash on your fire, with a short note of who sent what.
  • Right-click someone to jot a quick note to yourself about them ("held the bridge pull perfectly"). Jots are never sent to anyone. They wait for you at the campfire.
  • After a fight, if the data saw someone do something worth a thank-you, a toast offers the matching spark in one click: "Bob kept you up through that pull: Send Clutch heal".
  • Shift-click someone for their page. Click the fire for this run's campfire. Drag the strip by its edge to put it anywhere.

The Campfire: a proper ending

When the last boss dies, while the party is still together, the campfire opens. Everyone sits in a ring around the fire:

  • Everyone who was part of the run. That's the party as it is now, everyone who left on the way, and anyone who left while the group was forming (up to 20 minutes before you zoned in). Someone who left is marked "left 12:40" or "left before the run", and you can still thank them.
  • What each person did well, from the data: "Interrupted 7 casts", "Tanked 12 pulls without losing a mob to the group", "Kept you alive through 4 hard pulls", "No avoidable damage taken in 9 fights".
  • Their kudos and sparks from this run, piled on their seat, and your jots about them.
  • A suggested kudo glowing on each seat, from what the data saw and the sparks you sent. Send someone three "Nice pull" sparks and their seat suggests Clean pulls. One click gives it.

Giving kudos: drag a kudo from the tray onto someone's seat, or pick one and click them. It flies across the fire on everyone's screen, and theirs fly to you.

Kudos
Steady tank Clean pulls
Saved me Kept us up
Quick kicks Crowd control
Brought the damage Stayed out of fire
Calm after a wipe Explained the fights
Patient with newcomers Led well
Fair with loot Great company

In the middle of the ring, the fire tells the run's lessons for the whole group, with no names: "Watch the ground. 2 deaths started in avoidable damage (Flamestrike)." A clean run says so.

The ring grows as needed (seats shrink to fit), so a group that swapped people three times still has everyone at the fire.

Go round the fire

Press Go round the fire (or right-click a seat) to step through everyone, one person at a time, with Next: Carol at the bottom. For each person you see:

  • what they did, the sparks they got and from whom, and your jots;
  • kudos you can give with one click;
  • a private note: one thing to try next time, your own words, or both. Your jots are already in the text box. The data's suggestion is marked, and only you see why.

A note always goes with a kudo you've given them: something to keep doing, then something to try. Tips are kind, forward-looking phrases ("Let the tank build threat before opening up", "Step out of ground effects sooner", "Smaller pulls while the group warms up", "Say the plan before a pull"...). Only the person it's for ever sees a note.

The Mirror: what people told you

Your own page, for your eyes only (/fire mirror):

  • What you're known for: every kudo you've received, how many times, and from how many players. Hover one to see who.
  • Notes to you: the private keep/try notes people left you, with a Thank button.
  • Practice: each tip becomes something to practise. Fireside checks your runs since the tip for that mistake and compares them with your runs before it. After 3 clean runs in a row it counts as stuck, and the person who gave you the tip hears that it helped.
  • Ripples: kudos you received, thanks for yours, and tips of yours that helped someone.
  • Notes you left: every note you've sent, and whether it was delivered, thanked or stuck.

Known for: reputation built from kudos

Fireside remembers everyone you've run with. When someone new joins your party, each Fireside in the group shares the kudos it has given the others, and its own player's kudo record. Even a stranger can arrive with "Known for: Steady tank (4), Quick kicks (2)".

  • On tooltips, in the party popup when you join a group, and in chat when you whisper someone you've run with.
  • Only kudos are ever shared. Nothing negative about anyone is ever sent to anyone else.

People: everyone you've run with

Each person's page shows what they're known for (and where it came from), your runs together, and your jots about them. It also has two private things only you ever see: whether you'd group with them again, and your own note. Click a run to open its campfire again; kudos and notes for an older run still reach people.

Runs and death recaps (private)

  • Runs: every dungeon run with its bosses, wipes and deaths. Each death has its last hits and an analysis of what most likely caused it: avoidable damage, pulled threat, lost aggro, low healing, an early pull, an over-pull, or a cast nobody interrupted.
  • Death recap popup: when you die in a party, a recap of the whole fight opens right away. It shows every death in order and what triggered it, and the tab for each person unlocks as they fall.
  • The analysis stays on your own screen. At the campfire it only appears as the fire's nameless lessons.

Settings

In Options > AddOns > Fireside (or the Settings tab of the window), you can set:

  • the Hearth, and the spark offers after a fight
  • whether the campfire opens at the end of each run
  • whether to tell your party the kudos you've given, and show them the kudos you've received
  • whether to accept private notes (if you turn them off, people who try to send you one are told)
  • the party popup and how long it stays up
  • tooltips, the whisper line, the death recap popup, chat messages
  • the minimap button
  • how many mobs count as an over-pull in the death analysis

Built for WoW Forever

Names are WoW Forever's realmless "Given Family" names. Fights are read from Blizzard's own damage meter and death recaps once combat ends, never from the combat log, and never from values the game keeps hidden. Messages between players go over private addon messages, never chat. During a boss encounter, when the game holds addon messages back, Fireside queues yours and sends them once the encounter ends.

Good to know

  • Sparks, kudos, testimony and notes only reach players who also run Fireside. Everyone else still gets a seat at your fire, and everything you give them is remembered on your side.
  • Notes to someone who has left the group are sent to them directly. If they aren't online, the note is sent again the next time you group with them.
  • Fireside tracks 5-player dungeon groups. Raids aren't tracked, and the Hearth hides in a raid.
  • The data can't see crowd control, positioning or what was said in chat, so some things only you can thank people for. That's what the kudos tray and jots are for.
  • A tip with nothing to measure (like "Say the plan before a pull") is kept as one to keep in mind. Practice only tracks the ones the data can see.
  • WoW Forever is still in beta, so what the game shows addons may change.
