Take control of how external defensive cooldowns appear on your screen.

ExplicitExternalDefCDs is a lightweight World of Warcraft Retail addon that enhances Blizzard's built-in External Defensives tracker, giving you more control over its appearance, visibility, timers and sound alerts.

Designed with PvP in mind, it helps you recognize defensive buffs received from teammates without unnecessary visual clutter.

Features

Icon customization

• Disable Blizzard's default icon pulsing animation.

• Add class-colored glows or choose your own custom color.

• Choose between clean borders, soft glows or both.

• Adjust glow intensity, border thickness, spacing and icon opacity.

• Customize icon orientation and spacing.

Cooldowns & timers

• Enable a native cooldown sweep that works in combat.

• Adjust sweep darkness and direction.

• Customize timer size, position and offsets.

• Remove the seconds suffix.

• Display fractional seconds below 10, 8, 5, 3, 2 or 1 seconds, or use other available thresholds.

Sound alerts

• Play an audio notification when receiving an external defensive.

• Choose from built-in sounds or use custom audio files.

• Adjust sound volume and audio channel.

Profiles & preview

• Create, save and switch between multiple profiles.

• Import and export configurations using shareable codes.

• Preview your changes directly in the settings.

• Use Test 3 Externals to simulate multiple defensive buffs without needing another player.

How it works

ExplicitExternalDefCDs builds upon Blizzard's native External Defensives system rather than replacing it with a separate tracker.

Icon positioning and sizing can be configured through WoW's Edit Mode, while the addon provides additional customization options.

The addon does not track cooldown availability or predict when teammates will use their abilities. Only external defensive cooldowns supported by Blizzard's default interface can be displayed.

Getting started

Open the settings using:

/eecd

Other commands:

• /ee — Open settings

• /eecd test — Toggle the three-icon test

• /explicitexternaldefcds — Open settings

Some native display settings require /reload outside combat to take effect.

Make external defensives easier to see, easier to read and easier to react to.
