v2.17.3
What's new
Enhanced Widget Control 2.17.3
This release adds several major widget integrations, new appearance controls and a broad reliability pass. The complete update is described below so you do not need to visit an external changelog.
Season update safety and discovery
- Fixed a new Retail Lua error on the Prey Hunt progress tooltip adapter.
- Prevented EWC bar decorations from tainting Blizzard map event and quest tooltip widgets during hover updates.
- Tooltip widgets still keep safe visual styling without changing Blizzard-controlled tooltip layout and bounds.
- Improved auto-detected widget discovery by cleaning Blizzard formatting codes out of live widget names before they are stored.
- Added smarter default names and menu groups for newly discovered supported widgets, making new season and raid bars easier to identify in Selected Widgets.
- Expanded widget details so unknown widgets now show a suggested name and grouping, which makes future hardcoding and support passes much easier.
ElvUI compatibility and tooltip fixes
- Added support for current ElvUI development builds whose version strings include commit suffixes.
- The Overview page now displays the detected ElvUI version and whether it is a stable or development build.
- Prevented duplicate EWC option registration during ElvUI initialization.
- Limited automatic widget detection to recognized gameplay and tooltip containers so unrelated Blizzard panels are not modified.
- Fixed World Map event and quest tooltips being distorted when they contain Blizzard widget bars.
- Tooltip bars can still inherit EWC textures, colors, backgrounds, borders, glows, opacity and text styling.
- Blizzard now retains control of tooltip dimensions, scale, font size and all widget, bar and text anchors, preventing text from moving outside or overlapping the tooltip box.
New known widgets
- Added a built-in list of important widgets, making them easy to find and customize even before they have appeared during gameplay.
- Added named entries for:
- Delve Companion XP
- Prey Hunts
- Prey Hunts Available
- Prey Hunt Progress
- Nebulous Voidcores Transmuted
- Ascendant Nilhammer
- Reorganized the widget list into Known Widgets, Auto-detected Widgets and Saved / Unknown.
- Added Delves, Prey and Voidforge categories.
- Known widgets are protected from cleanup, while new supported widgets are still detected automatically.
Delve Companion XP
- Added full EWC styling support for the companion XP bar shown above Delve companions such as Valeera.
- Added Always visible while targeted, allowing the XP bar to remain visible whenever the companion is your target.
- The bar now keeps a consistent on-screen size instead of shrinking when the companion moves farther away.
- Hovering the bar switches between percentage and exact current / maximum XP, matching Blizzard's original behavior.
- Fixed the value text changing color depending on how the bar appeared.
Prey Hunt support
- Added a dedicated EWC status-bar layout for Blizzard's Prey Hunt Progress widget.
- Added support for Cold, Warm, Hot and Final hunt states.
- Added configurable Prey value formats and a separate Prey size multiplier.
- Added the option to keep Blizzard's original Prey display instead of using the EWC bar.
- Preserved the original tooltip and click behavior.
- Added support for both the active Prey Hunt display and the Hunts Available bar.
- Fixed appearance settings being lost when a hunt advances to another stage or changes to Hunts Available.
- Prevented Blizzard's original Prey icon and animations from briefly flashing during progress updates.
- Prevented duplicate Prey bars from supported third-party UI modules while the EWC replacement is active.
New appearance controls
- Added optional dynamic Class Color for:
- Bar color
- Background color
- Border color
- Glow color
- Main text color
- Value text color
- Class colors update automatically when you play another class.
- Added a new Masque-inspired border system with pixel and SharedMedia border styles.
- Added border texture previews, size and spacing controls.
- Added a matching custom glow system with selectable media, color, strength, edge size and spacing.
- Improved per-widget overrides so a new override starts with the current global appearance.
- Disabling an override still preserves its custom values in case you want to enable it again.
Preset improvements
- The Presets page now shows which preset is currently active.
- Added a modified indicator when your current settings no longer match the selected preset.
- Improved active-preset tracking when presets are applied, updated, saved or deleted.
Reliability and performance
- Improved reapplication of size, scale, position, textures, colors, backgrounds, borders, glows, fonts and text placement after Blizzard rebuilds or updates a widget.
- Blizzard's current status-bar color is captured during setup, so original widget colors remain correct whenever custom bar color is disabled.
- Added short, bounded stabilization passes for complex widget state transitions without using permanent background polling.
- Position changes delayed by combat are now reapplied automatically after combat ends.
- Fixed a Retail 12.1 Lua error caused by Blizzard's updated tooltip API.
- Added peer-to-peer version detection. EWC warns once in chat if another EWC user is running a newer version.
- Version announcements are throttled, and normal widget processing remains event-driven to minimize resource usage.
