0.3.0-beta
The engine, rebuilt in this repository from the design of 2026-10-06. Three narrators (Edda Coalbrook, Old Brannock, Fizzwick Gearvault) take turns, one per flight, all three before one returns. Each place has one shuffled deck of every narrator's lines, dealt without replacement; the flight's narrator picks first, another cuts in when they are out, the most specific fitting line wins, and the last line dealt never comes straight back. Lines can ask for night or day, a faction, a level band, your company (solo, party, guild, raid), a month, or a first or repeat flight on the route.
How often: now and then (about one flight in three, a route never flown always, never quiet more than four
in a row), every flight, or only when asked (/ds tell, also a key). The first flight after install always
narrates. Quiet in groups and on routes known to take under 45 seconds; /ds pause until the daily reset;
Hush (/ds hush, a key, a right click on the card) stops the line and keeps the rest of the flight quiet.
The diary: deaths per zone, the zone of each level, zones visited, turn-ins, flights per route and their length, the install day and level. On entering a zone a memory may come before lore ("It's gotten you six times now", "You went down here once", "More falls down there than I'll mention", "Level eighteen, right here in Westfall"), at most one a flight, each resting ten flights. Milestones open the next flight: the max-level retrospective in the version the numbers allow (with numbers, plain, or humble when Deedsong only caught the last stretch), every tenth level, each anniversary.
The card stands in for the voice. No clips exist yet: the narrator's face and name fade in near the top of
the screen, every word sits on it from the start, faint, and warms to bright as it is spoken at the narrator's own pace, the card stays until a slow reader could have finished it (and while the mouse rests on it), then it holds a
moment and fades. Drag it to move it. Once clips are recorded the same card is the subtitle. The game's
text-to-speech can carry lines without a clip (/ds tts on, off by default until heard working).
Content pipeline: master/deedsong.json builds into Content/Core.lua and the clip list; 151 lines over 25
places on the Darkshore, Ashenvale, Teldrassil, Elwynn, Westfall, Duskwood, Stormwind, Durotar, Orgrimmar and
Barrens routes, six per place; 15 memory and 15 milestone templates, 12 company lines; an example Hallow's End
pack. Clip format and names: docs/voice-format.md.
Before the first flight (2026-10-08): the player's own choices (Off, Only when I ask, a pause) always win, but the default quiet rules never block the first flight or a milestone, and a milestone a chosen setting silences waits for the next flight that can play it. Settings are account-wide, the diary stays per character. With only Deedsong installed the shared core joins no channel and sends nothing. Edda flies with the Alliance only until a Horde narrator exists; Brannock and Fizzwick fly with everyone. Place names are English-only for now.
Testers, try this: take any flight after a fresh install (it narrates), then /ds often always and fly
Auberdine to Astranaar or Stormwind to Sentinel Hill; /ds here on the ground tells you whether the packs know
the place; /ds test memory and /ds test milestone show the two kinds of diary lines without a flight.
