Turn the quiet minute at the campfire into the best part of the evening.

Sitting around a fire with other players while you rest, wait for the group or drink after a wipe? Press one button and your character tells a short, punchy tale in chat. The tale fits who your character is, where you are and what time of year it is. Some are cozy, some are darkly funny, and a rare few are legendary.

✨ Main features

📖 Nearly 700 built-in tales

Every tale is written for Azeroth and is short enough to send as a single chat message. Tales are picked to fit your character:

• Race and class: every race, every class, and special tales for race + class pairs like a Troll Mage or a Dwarf Hunter
• Zone: tales about where you are standing, from the ghosts of Duskwood to the heat of the Barrens (41 zones)
• Level: rookies tell beginner mishaps, veterans tell dungeon disasters, heroes tell war stories from Blackrock
• Holidays: Hallow's End, Winter Veil, Midsummer and Love is in the Air tales appear automatically by date

🌑 Pick your humour

• Mixed: everything (default)
• Cozy only: light, friendly fireside stories
• Dark & sharp only: gallows humour about corpse runs, ninja looters and each race's grim history

🌟 Legendary tales

About once in every 50 tales, something special comes up: a rarer, better story with a gold screen flash and a sound. Other players with the addon see the flash too, with your name on it.

🔁 No repeats at the fire

The addon remembers the tales you have told, and recognises tales told by other players with the addon nearby. Those are skipped for a while, so nobody at the fire hears the same story twice.

📚 The Tale Book

A window for managing every tale:

• Browse and search all tales, or filter by: this character, favourites, banned, your own, or dark
• ⭐ Favourite tales so they come up more often
• ❌ Ban tales you are tired of
• Ctrl + click any tale to tell it right away

✍️ Write your own tales

• Write, edit and delete tales in game, with no file editing
• Choose who can tell each one: anyone, your race, your class, your race + class, only in the current zone, or as a legendary tale
• Fill-ins like {name}, {target}, {race}, {class} and {zone} are replaced when the tale is told
• Import a whole list at once: paste up to 100 tales, one per line

⚙️ Settings page

Everything can be changed in Options → AddOns → Campfire Banter: chat channel, cooldown, repeat window, legendary chance, gold flash, holiday tales, humour, favourites-only mode, button size and more.

🎮 How to use

Chat commands

/banter works everywhere below; /tale does the same.

• /banter: tell a tale
• /banter book: open the Tale Book
• /banter options: open settings
• /banter import: paste many tales at once
• /banter tone mixed | cozy | dark: change the humour
• /banter channel say | yell | emote | party | raid | guild | auto: choose where tales go
• /banter help: all commands

🛡️ Safe and spam-free

• Cooldown between tales (15 seconds by default, never less than 5), so the button cannot be used to flood chat
• Clean messages: colour codes, item links and hidden characters are removed from every tale before it is sent
• Limits on your own tales: 10 to 220 characters each, 100 per import, 500 in total
• Flash protection: legendary flashes caused by other players happen at most once a minute, and the flash can be turned off completely
• Tales are only sent when you click or type, never automatically

❓ FAQ

Do other players need the addon to hear my tales? No. Tales are normal chat messages that everyone nearby can read. Players who also have the addon get extras: tales you told are not repeated by them, and they see your legendary flash.

Can I turn off the dark humour? Yes. Set Humour to Cozy only in settings, or type /banter tone cozy.

Can I use only my own tales? Yes. Untick Use the built-in tales in settings.

Which language are the tales in? English. Zone tales also work on game clients set to other languages.
