Camera Button

A small camera icon that swaps between preset camera distances. Left-click next, right-click previous, hover for preset buttons and a slider to any distance. Set 2 to 5 presets in yards and raise the game’s max camera distance without console commands.

Camera Button puts one small camera icon on your screen. Left-click it to jump to the next of your preset camera distances, right-click to go back one. Hover it and a small slider flies out with a numbered button for each preset and the current distance in yards, so you can jump straight to a preset or drag to any distance in between.

I made this because I kept wanting different camera distances for different things, close in for questing and indoors, all the way out for raids, and the mouse wheel is slow and never lands in the same place twice. With this it’s one click and you always know where you are.

What it does

  • Two to five presets, each set in yards in the options. There’s a “Use current” button next to each one, so you can zoom to a view you like and save it.
  • Left-click steps to the next preset, right-click to the previous one. From a custom distance, a click goes to the nearest preset further out or further in.
  • A small gold number on the icon shows which preset you’re on and goes blank when you’re at a custom distance. You can change its size or turn it off.
  • Hover the icon for the flyout: numbered preset buttons, a slider in half-yard steps and the current distance. Gold marks on the slider show where the presets sit. It stays open while your mouse is over it and closes when you move away. You can put it left or right of the icon, have the bar horizontal or vertical, hide the preset buttons if you only want the slider, and scale it separately from the icon. Or turn it off.
  • The icon follows the real camera. Zoom with the mouse wheel or anything else and the number updates right away.
  • Maximum camera distance slider, in yards. It changes the game’s own zoom-out limit (the cameraDistanceMaxZoomFactor setting) without typing console commands, from 15 up to 50 yards or whatever your client allows. Retail stops at 39.
  • Optional dark square behind the icon, scale, opacity, drag to move, lock, tooltips on or off.
  • Options under Interface → AddOns → CameraButton, or type /camerabutton.
  • No libraries and nothing heavy running in the background. Settings are saved per account.

Compatibility

WoW Forever, Classic Era, TBC/Anniversary, MoP Classic and Retail. It only moves the camera and changes the max camera distance setting, nothing that touches gameplay.
