Always know your way out of crowd control.

Stuns, fears and polymorphs decide PvP fights, and the moment to escape is easy to miss: you react too late, or burn your trinket when a racial would have done the job. BreakFree watches for the crowd control you can escape from and puts the right ability's icon where you're looking, only when using it actually makes sense.

Your best way out, chosen for you

When you're under an effect worth breaking, BreakFree shows the icon of the best escape you have ready:

1. Your racial ability, if it can break the effect and is off cooldown. It comes first, saving your trinket for later.
2. Your PvP trinket, if it's equipped, off cooldown and can remove the effect.

Racial alerts work even without a trinket equipped.

The PvP trinket covers stuns, fears, horrors, polymorphs, saps, sleeps, charms, disorients and roots, and optionally slows.

When the icon appears and disappears

The icon appears when you're under an effect your ready escape can break, with enough time left to be worth it (you choose the threshold).

It fades out (optionally scrolling away) as soon as:

• you use the trinket or racial;
• the effect expires, breaks on damage, is dispelled, or is removed by a Free Action Potion;
• the time left drops below your threshold;
• nothing that could break it is ready any more, or you die.

Silences, disarms and interrupts never show the icon, because neither the trinket nor these racials remove them.

Features

• Spell lists for every class. Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock and Warrior, plus War Stomp and items (engineering bombs and grenades, Net-o-Matic, Tidal Charm and more). Each spell can be switched on or off. The lists, and each spell's mechanic and dispel type, come from WoW: Forever's game data.
• Effects not in the lists. Choose by type (stuns, fears, charms, incapacitates, roots, other) whether unlisted effects, such as new spells or NPC abilities, trigger the alert.
• Slow detection. In PvP the game doesn't tell addons which spell slowed you, so BreakFree detects slows from your run speed, with a threshold you choose (default 50% slower).
• Cooldown tracking. Tracks your trinket's and racial's cooldowns, including uses from action buttons and macros. If your trinket isn't recognised, pick its slot by hand.
• Class insignias. A class-specific insignia only triggers the alert for the effects it can remove.
• Countdown. Optional time-left display on the icon.
• Fully adjustable look. Move and resize the icon, and set the fade-in time, the fade-out time, and whether the icon scrolls (direction and distance) as it fades.
• Test preview. See exactly how the alert looks. The preview loops and picks up setting changes as you make them.
• Lightweight. No libraries or dependencies. BreakFree reacts to game events instead of constantly scanning.

Getting started

1. Install and log in.
2. Type /bf to open the options. The icon starts unlocked so you can drag it where you want it.
3. Click Test to preview the alert, adjust size and animation, then tick Lock position.

Commands

The options window is also available from the game's Options → AddOns menu.

Options overview

• General: enable, lock position, show time left, icon size, minimum time left, and trinket slot (automatic, top or bottom).
• Animation: fade-in, fade-out, scroll on fade-out (direction and distance), and a test button.
• Effects: slow detection and minimum slow %, types of unlisted effects, and racial abilities (on/off, per ability).
• Spells: per-class lists with All / None buttons. Hover a spell for its type, diminishing-returns category and spell IDs.

Compatibility

• Made for World of Warcraft: Forever. Racial alerts are Forever only.
• Also loads on Midnight, with trinket alerts only. The spell lists are based on Forever, so on Midnight many spells are handled by type instead.
• Works with Forever's addon restrictions. It uses the game's loss-of-control information, which stays available to addons for your own character in PvP.
• Settings are saved per account.

Known limitations

• Slows can't be told apart. The game hides which spell slowed you, so slows are a single on/off option with a threshold.
• Unrecognised trinkets. If your trinket isn't recognised, choose its slot in the options.
• Cooldowns in combat. The game can hide cooldowns from addons in combat. BreakFree then tracks them from your own uses, and corrects them whenever the game shows them.
