BlameTheLag 2.1.0
It wasn't you. It was the lag. It's always the lag.
BlameTheLag turns your worst moments in dungeons, raids, delves and M+ keys into jokes. It comes up with an excuse for you, roasts everyone else, and hands out awards at the end of the run.
What it reacts to
- You stood in avoidable damage → a perfectly reasonable excuse: "That wasn't my fault, the server is lagging."
- A teammate stood in it → "Moving is a class ability, Leeroy. Every class has it."
- Something dodgeable one-shot you → "Fire Swirl: 1, me: 0."
- You walk into a dungeon → "Hi! Quick disclaimer: my internet is bad and my dodging is worse."
- Wipe → "That wasn't a wipe, that was a tactical floor inspection."
- Boss down → "I carried. You're welcome."
- Key timed or depleted → "+12 depleted. We would've timed it, but the lag added 5 minutes."
- Someone dies → "Press F for Leeroy."
- Loot drops → "Leeroy got [Sword]. Must be nice to not stand in fire... oh wait, they did."
- Repair bill → "847g. Worth it? No."
Nearly 200 lines in English, plus German, Slovak and Czech versions.
End-of-run awards
When a dungeon, raid, delve or M+ key ends, two trophies are handed out:
Golden Puddle: Leeroy, with 4.2M of avoidable damage (mostly Fire Swirl). Kick Master: Jaina, 23 interrupts.
Nobody stood in anything? Then everyone gets told how suspicious that is.
Nothing to configure
No spell lists, no setup. Avoidable damage and interrupts come from Blizzard's own damage meter, which already knows what could have been dodged — so it works for your whole group, even if nobody else has the addon.
Made for Midnight
Midnight took the combat log away from addons and blocks addon chat during M+ keys, boss fights and PvP. BlameTheLag works with that instead of fighting it:
- Open world: lines appear instantly.
- Dungeons, raids, M+: combat data is hidden during the fight, so your line arrives right after the pull.
- Blocked chat: a line you want the group to see is loaded onto a button. You press your key, and it goes out as if you typed it — even mid-key.
Send it yourself, or don't
By default only you see the lines, in your chat and as big text in the middle of the screen. Every line is also loaded onto the send button, so you decide what the group gets to read.
- Bind a key in Options → Keybindings → BlameTheLag, or use the draggable on-screen button (
/btl button). - One press sends the last line. Pressing it again does nothing until a new line shows up.
- Want it automatic? Point your lines at group chat:
/btl channel partyand/btl otherschannel party. Built-in limits keep it from spamming.

New in 2.1.0
New: end-of-run awards for most avoidable damage taken and most interrupts; lines for wipes, boss kills, timed and depleted keys, teammate deaths, one-shots, loot and repair bills; a greeting when you enter a dungeon; a button and keybinding to post the last line yourself (works during M+ too); an in-game line editor; German, Slovak and Czech lines; emotes; lifetime stats; a settings panel.
Fixed: lines never reaching party chat; the old "Instance chat" option silently dropping every line in premade groups; the keybinding doing nothing; interrupt counts coming out far too low; lines being printed twice in your own chat window.
Less spam: the end of a run posts the two awards and nothing else, at least 20 seconds between lines the addon posts by itself, one key press sends exactly one line, and the BlameTheLag message waits on your button instead of posting itself.
Removed: the wasted-kick lines. They relied on seeing which spell other players cast, which the game hides in instances.
