What's new

BetterQuestLog v1.17.2.

  • Shift-click quest links into chat
    • While actively typing in chat, Shift-clicking a quest in the Quest List inserts its [Quest Name] hyperlink into the active chat box.
    • It does not Track/Untrack the quest in that situation.
    • If no chat box is active, the existing Shift-click Track/Untrack behavior remains exactly as before.
    • Zone-header Shift-click behavior is unchanged.
  • Shift-click spell links from the Reading Pane
    • Native spell hyperlinks contained in quest Objectives/Description text are now mouse-interactive.
    • While typing in chat, Shift-clicking one inserts the [Spell Name] hyperlink into chat.
    • Normal clicks retain Blizzard's standard hyperlink behavior where available.
  • Cross-client handling
    • Retail uses the modern spell-link API when available; Blizzard's current generated API exposes C_Spell.GetSpellLink.
    • Classic-family clients use their legacy spell/quest link APIs when available.
    • There are fallbacks for clients where those helpers differ or are missing, including preserving the native spell hyperlink payload supplied by the quest text.
    • The same implementation is used for:
      • Retail 12.1.0
      • MoP Classic 5.5.4
      • Cataclysm Classic 4.4.2
      • TBC Classic 2.5.6
      • Classic Era 1.15.9

One limitation is client-side: if a particular WoW flavor itself refuses to transmit/display spell hyperlinks, BQL can't make that client support them. The addon will still use the best available native/fallback representation. I looked into integrating LinkSpellsClassic, but that addon is way out of date. I may update it myself if there is enough demand.
