BetterQuestLog
BetterQuestLog replaces the default World of Warcraft Classic quest log with a wider, resizable interface designed for easier quest reading, better party coordination, and deeper optional integration with Questie.
The addon works as a complete standalone quest log replacement. Questie is optional; when installed, additional party-progress, tracker, tooltip, and quest-sharing features become available.
Main Features
Improved Quest Log
- Wide, resizable quest log window
- Adjustable left quest-list width
- Adjustable overall window scale
- Wrapped quest titles automatically receive additional row height
- Persistent window size, scale, and position
- Automatic screen clamping after resizing or scaling
- Configurable fonts, text sizes, spacing, and padding
- Window title displays as “[PlayerName]’s Quest Log”
- Optional teal square brackets for dungeon quest levels
- Quest levels remain colored by difficulty
Party Quest Information
When Questie is installed, BetterQuestLog can display how many other party members currently have each quest.
Quest entries can appear like:
[11] 4 Grove of the Ancients
The party count is displayed in light purple.
Hovering a quest in the quest list can also show which party members have that quest:
- Green names indicate completed progress
- Purple names indicate incomplete progress
- Players who are no longer in the group are automatically filtered out
Party Objective Progress
BetterQuestLog can append a party-progress table to each quest showing objective counts for:
- Your character
- Every party member sharing the quest
The table can be displayed:
- Under the quest description
- In place of the normal objective bullet list
Completed progress is shown in green, while incomplete party progress is shown in purple.
The local Objective and Me columns remain available even when you are not grouped or no other party members share the quest.
Questie Tracker Integration
BetterQuestLog adds several optional enhancements to the Questie tracker.
Open the Correct Quest
Clicking a quest in the Questie tracker opens BetterQuestLog directly to the selected quest.
Party Progress Columns
Party objective progress can be shown directly inside the Questie tracker.
Features include:
- Shared party-member columns across all tracked quests
- Consistent member ordering from top to bottom
- Optional Me column
- Optional local progress appended to the objective text
- Optional compact party counts without the
/requiredportion - Automatic removal of trailing text such as “slain”
- Separate alignment settings for objective text
- Separate alignment settings for Quest Complete!
- Dynamic tracker width based on active party columns
- Manual tracker resizing remains supported
- BetterQuestLog never modifies the tracker’s height
- Completed quests hide unnecessary tables when everyone is finished
Hovering a party member’s name or progress number shows that member’s full name.
Delayed Tracker Tooltips
Hovering over a Questie tracker quest can display a detailed tooltip after a configurable delay.
The delay can be adjusted from 0.0 to 10.0 seconds in 0.1-second increments.
Tooltip content can include:
- Party objective progress
- Quest objective text
- Quest description text
The tooltip automatically sizes itself based on the enabled content and the number of displayed party members.
Quest Pickup Warnings
BetterQuestLog can help party members notice quests they may have missed.
Optional warnings are available for both directions:
- You accept a quest, but another same-zone party member does not
- A same-zone party member accepts a quest, but you do not
The warning delay is configurable and defaults to one minute.
When the timer expires, BetterQuestLog displays an on-screen message identifying who missed the quest. An optional notification sound can also be enabled.
Existing quests are baselined when joining a group, preventing old quests from triggering unnecessary alerts.
Customizable Settings
The settings window includes organized pages for:
- General appearance and behavior
- Fonts and text sizing
- Questie pickup warnings
- Questie tracker tooltips
- Questie tracker party columns
- Import and export
Options that depend on another feature are automatically disabled and greyed out when their parent option is turned off.
Settings Import and Export
Every BetterQuestLog setting can be exported as a compact configuration string.
This includes:
- Window dimensions
- Scale
- Window position
- Fonts and spacing
- Quest-list appearance
- Questie integration settings
- Tooltip settings
- Tracker-column behavior
- Alert settings
Export strings can be saved and imported later, making it easy to:
- Back up your configuration
- Move settings between characters or installations
- Maintain multiple interface layouts
- Share a configuration with another player
Older WideQuestLog profile strings remain importable.
Questie Is Optional
BetterQuestLog does not require Questie.
Without Questie, the core replacement quest log, resizing, formatting, settings, position saving, and local objective display continue to work normally.
Questie-dependent options simply remain unavailable until Questie is installed.
Slash Commands
/bql/betterquestlog
Legacy commands are also supported:

Compatibility
Designed for World of Warcraft Classic and intended to replace Blizzard’s standard quest log while remaining compatible with Questie’s tracker and shared party quest data.
