AzerPad – play World of Warcraft with a controller

AzerPad – console-style gamepad controls for WoW Retail

⚠️ BETA – in active development. AzerPad changes your action bars, key bindings, Edit Mode layout and some game settings. It tries hard to restore everything (/ap restore, automatic restore on logout), but bugs can still happen. Use at your own risk: the author is not responsible if your character's interface settings get mixed up. Tip: back up your WTF folder (World of Warcraft › _retail_ › WTF) before trying it. Please report problems in the comments.

Play World of Warcraft from the couch. AzerPad turns your DualSense or Xbox controller into a complete, console-style control scheme: a crossbar for your spells, a ring menu for windows and utilities, button prompts, vibration and an on-screen keyboard. Your controller gets a layout that is ready to play the moment you log in.

🎮 Works with PlayStation (DualSense / DualShock) and Xbox controllers · 🌍 English, Deutsch, Français, Español, Italiano, Português

✨ Features

Crossbar – Hold L2, R2 or both and press one of the 8 buttons (face buttons + D-pad): 24 spells within reach, shown right next to a small controller overview.

A ready-made layout for every class and spec – All 13 classes and 40 specializations start with a layout based on current rotation guides:

  • R2: your rotation, most important spell on ✕
  • L2: AoE and secondary spells; D-pad: ↑ movement (Sprint, Blink, Charge …), → interrupt, ↓ big defensive, ← self-heal
  • L2 + R2: major cooldowns; D-pad: second movement, stun, second defensive, battle res / taunt / dispel
  • Spells you don't know yet are filled from your spellbook. Drag anything anywhere – /ap preset sets it up again.

One-button assistant – In combat □ casts WoW's own Assisted Combat spell, which picks the next sensible ability for you.

Ring menu – Hold L1 and point the right stick: character, bags, spellbook, talents, professions, collections, friends, quests, map. The D-pad flips through more pages: raid markers, group tools (ready check, countdown, roll), emotes and two pages of your own (portals, buffs, toys …). Alliance and Horde get their own ring art.

Targeting without holding anything – D-pad ↑ targets the closest enemy, ↓ cycles through enemies, ←/→ your party or raid. R3 pings what you are looking at.

Windows with the controller – When a window is open, a highlight jumps from button to button with the D-pad: ✕ click, □ right-click, △ next window, ○ close, right stick scrolls. Works in the auction house (search box + on-screen keyboard), the Trading Post (browse and rotate the preview) and the world map (zoom with the right stick, also with OpenMap).

On-screen keyboard – Click into a text field and a console-style keyboard appears.

Button prompts – "□ Talk – Name", loot, use, trade: you always see what □ does right now.

Skyriding – The D-pad becomes your flight bar, □ is Surge Forward; gentle vibration that grows with your speed.

Vibration and lightbar – Short pulses on combat start, death, dungeon invite, ready check and level up.

Confirmations – ✕ accepts, ○ declines (group invites, resurrect, ready check, dungeon invite).

Cutscenes and loot – ✕ or ○ skips cinematics and videos (with WoW's own confirmation). Loot is picked up automatically, without switching to mouse mode.

Clean screen – Action bars 2–8 are hidden (the crossbar replaces them), the overview fades out when you don't need it, the minimap is a bit larger.

Leaves no traces – Everything AzerPad changes (action bars, Edit Mode layout, settings) is restored when you log out and set again when you log in. Disable the addon and your UI is exactly as before. /ap restore brings everything back at any time.

Your own bindings and profiles – /ap layout lets you rebind every button; profiles per controller type, for all classes or just one.

🚀 Getting started

  1. Turn on your controller in WoW (Options › Controls › Gamepad).
  2. Log in. A welcome window asks whether to use the AzerPad layout: ✕ = yes, ○ = keep your own bindings, □ = tutorial.
  3. Play. The overview at the bottom always shows what each button does.

Commands: /ap help · Tutorial: /ap tutorial · Options: /ap config
