Description
Apocrypha
Newly discovered texts and relics once hidden from view.
Apocrypha highlights content exclusive to World of Warcraft: Forever by adding a small cyan infinity symbol (∞) after the names of exclusive quests, items, appearances, mounts, pets, toys, and recipes across the UI. For exclusive quests, it also frames dialogue and detail pages with immersive custom parchment backgrounds.
If you've played through Classic Era a dozen times, it's easy to click through quest text and vendor windows on autopilot. Apocrypha provides a subtle visual cue to help draw your attention off the beaten path and toward new experiences.

How It Works
Apocrypha checks each quest, item, mount, pet, and recipe ID against a compact database of everything that existed in Classic Era (1.14.4). Anything not on the list is marked as Forever-exclusive.
- Season of Discovery additions are marked since it is not part of Classic Era and its original content will likely be new to most players of Forever.
- Promotional and unreleased content that exists in the Classic client but was never available in Classic Era will also be marked as exclusive if it appears in Forever.
Because the addon tracks what is old rather than what is new, future Forever content is picked up automatically, with no addon update needed.
Design Philosophy
- Enhance, Don't Catalog: Apocrypha is designed to enrich your questing, exploration, and collecting experience, not to exhaustively track or catalog balance changes and gameplay updates, which are better left to online databases.
- Official Blizzard Feel: It should feel like a seamless extension of the default user interface, as if it were always meant to be there, without ever becoming distracting or obtrusive.
- Hidden Until Collected: Apocrypha follows Forever's design philosophy: uncollected entries stay hidden in your account collections, and Apocrypha never reveals anything the game doesn't.
- Minimalist & Compatible: Built for a minimalist setup, Apocrypha is lightweight and engineered to avoid interfering with other addons. Compatibility with major UI overhaul suites is currently untested. While dedicated integration for external overhauls isn't planned, open-source contributions or compatibility tweaks from other addon authors are always welcome via CurseForge comments.
- Focused Scope: Apocrypha is currently feature-complete, barring testing. Future enhancements and new features may be considered, but will always stay strictly within this intended design scope.
Options
Type /apocrypha or /apoc to open the settings panel. Every option is on by default. Most sections have an Enable All checkbox, and every option can also be toggled individually.
Credits & Acknowledgments
Special shoutout to Forever Quest Tint by xanastar, who started developing a similar concept around the same time. While Forever Quest Tint concentrates on quest text, Apocrypha has grown to take a more immersive approach that covers the wider UI. They can easily be run together by toggling off overlapping settings in either panel to avoid duplicate markers, so drop by their page and show some support!
About the Project
Developed by Amaranth Sparrow (long-time wiki editor and community contributor, also known as Kathranis or Suzaku). It started as a small personal project to help track exclusive content during my own playthrough of the Forever beta to help with editing articles on Warcraft Wiki. As the scope of the project expanded, I decided to polish it up and share it with anyone else looking for a subtle nudge off the beaten path.
Maintenance & Licensing
Apocrypha is under active development and maintenance. If you find a bug, a visual glitch, or have a feature request, please report it or send feedback via CurseForge comments rather than creating a separate fork or distribution while the project is active. I am not operating a dedicated code repository.
The source code is open under the GNU General Public License v3.0. Should I ever step away from maintenance, the project remains open for the community to adopt and continue.
AI Disclosure
While I studied computer science in school (C++), my coding is rusty and I am new to Lua. My initial 1.0 versions (now archived, never advertised) were sloppy and had memory bloat and high cpu overhead. I used several passes with Claude (Free) to walk me through refactoring the codebase using the official Blizzard API documentation (exported with WoW.Export) in order to follow best add-on practices and fix bugs, learning as I progressed. All original textures were created by myself in Photoshop using textures exported directly from the client, and the databases were created using wago.tools db2 tables and my own Python scripts. I am not managing a code repository and am currently just editing the lua files locally with Note++. Addon is now feature complete and hasn't produced any errors in my own limited testing for the last couple days. I'm considering additional features, and any further modules will be coded entirely by hand, but likely only in the far future.
This is a release candidate. The Mounts option remains untested. Please report any issues you find.
