Description
TLDR; Gives a visual representation of aggro ranges with added tolerance and warnings.
*****************************************************************************
Aggro Ranges is a lightweight World of Warcraft addon that gives you a clear visual estimate of how close you are to entering an enemy's aggro range.
Instead of relying purely on instinct, trial and error, or accidentally learning the hard way, Aggro Warning gives you an easy-to-read on-screen indicator that helps you judge how safely you can move around hostile enemies.
It is particularly useful while levelling, playing Hardcore, travelling through dangerous areas, navigating caves and camps, avoiding higher-level mobs, or sneaking past enemies as a Rogue
## Features
- Displays an on-screen aggro-distance indicator when hostile enemies are nearby.
- Estimates how close you are to the range at which an enemy is likely to detect and attack you.
- Uses a simple green → yellow → red visual warning system as you approach danger.
- Takes player level and enemy level into account when estimating aggro range.
- Adjusts calculations for situations where enemy detection range differs from normal.
- Includes specific handling for Rogue Stealth, where enemies have a significantly reduced detection range.
- Suppresses unnecessary warning messages while your character is dead.
- Designed to be small, lightweight and immediately understandable without filling the screen with unnecessary UI.
## Especially useful for Hardcore
Aggro Warning can be particularly valuable for Hardcore players where a single accidental pull can have far greater consequences than in normal play.
There is no harmless corpse run after an avoidable mistake. Pulling one extra mob, walking too close to a higher-level enemy, or misjudging the gap between two patrols can potentially mean losing hours — or days — of character progress.
Aggro Warning gives you an additional layer of awareness when moving through dangerous areas.
For example, it can help when:
- Trying to squeeze past hostile mobs without starting a fight.
- Moving through caves where space and escape routes are limited.
- Avoiding enemies several levels above you.
- Judging whether a gap between two mobs is actually safe.
- Crossing densely populated quest areas.
- Moving around dangerous patrols.
- Deciding whether it is safer to go around an enemy rather than risk passing it.
- Stealthing through hostile areas as a Rogue.
- Exploring unfamiliar zones where you do not yet know the safe routes.
In normal play, an accidental pull can be annoying.
**In Hardcore, it can end the run.**
Aggro Warning is designed to give you more information before you make that decision.
## See an invisible game mechanic
Normally, aggro range is invisible.
Experienced players eventually develop a feel for how closely they can approach enemies, but the safe distance is not always the same. It changes depending on factors such as the level difference between you and the mob.
Aggro Warning turns that invisible mechanic into something you can actually see.
As you approach a hostile enemy, the indicator shows your estimated remaining safety margin:
**Green** — You still have comfortable distance.
**Yellow** — You are getting closer to the estimated aggro range.
**Red** — You are very close to the estimated point where the enemy may detect and attack you.
This allows you to make much faster decisions about whether to continue forward, stop, reposition, or find another route.
## Safer levelling and exploration
Accidental pulls are one of the easiest ways for a manageable situation to become dangerous.
You might be fighting one enemy comfortably, only to accidentally attract another because you moved slightly too close while repositioning.
Or you might be trying to reach a quest objective and wondering whether the gap between two mobs is wide enough to pass through safely.
Aggro Warning gives you additional information to help make those decisions before combat starts.
This is useful for experienced players who want to minimise unnecessary pulls, while also helping newer players gradually develop a better understanding of how enemy aggro distance behaves.
## Level-based aggro estimation
Enemy detection range is not always the same.
Enemies above your level generally pose a greater detection risk, while lower-level enemies can often be approached more closely.
Aggro Warning factors the **difference between your level and the enemy's level** into its estimate rather than treating every enemy as though it has the same fixed aggro radius.
This becomes especially useful when moving into a new zone or encountering mobs several levels above you, where relying on the distance you were comfortable with in the previous area can be dangerous.
## Rogue Stealth support
Stealth dramatically changes how closely a Rogue can approach an enemy before being detected.
Aggro Warning includes dedicated logic for **Rogue Stealth**, reducing the estimated detection range while you are stealthed rather than continuing to show the normal non-stealthed estimate.
This makes the addon particularly useful when carefully navigating through camps, caves or other heavily populated areas where being detected at the wrong moment could be disastrous.
## Learn aggro range naturally
Aggro Warning is not only a warning tool.
After using it for a while, you can begin to develop a much stronger instinct for enemy detection distance.
You start to recognise how much space is safe, how level differences affect pulls, and just how close you can move before entering dangerous territory.
For Hardcore players in particular, developing that instinct can become an important survival skill.
## Important note about accuracy
Aggro Warning provides an **estimate**, not a guarantee.
World of Warcraft does not expose a simple API value that tells an addon the exact distance at which a particular enemy will aggro you.
Aggro Warning therefore estimates detection range using available information such as distance, player/enemy level difference and character state.
Other factors or game-specific behaviour can sometimes affect whether an enemy detects you.
For that reason, the addon should be treated as an additional **situational-awareness and safety tool**, particularly in Hardcore — not as permission to stand directly on the edge of the estimated range.
When your character's life matters, leaving yourself a safety margin is always the better option.
## Designed to stay out of the way
Aggro Warning is intentionally focused on doing one job well.
It does not replace your unit frames, nameplates or combat interface. It simply gives you useful information about a mechanic the base game normally leaves invisible.
Whether you are levelling normally, learning mob behaviour, carefully navigating on a Hardcore character, or trying to sneak through an enemy camp without pulling half of it, Aggro Warning gives you another tool for making safer decisions.
