Description
AggroRange
**AggroRange estimates how close you are to a hostile mob's aggro range in World of Warcraft Classic Era and Hardcore.
**
The addon estimates mobs' actual bodypull aggro range, taking into account the level difference between you and the mob, and then shows how much room you have left before you are expected to enter that range.
For example:
+6 yds (hovers next to unit frame or nameplate)
means that you are estimated to be approximately 6 yards outside the mob's normal aggro range.
Once the mob engages you, the display changes briefly to AGGRO before deactivating to reduce UI clutter.
Features
- Estimates a mob's proximity aggro range based on the level difference between the player and the mob.
- Shows how many yards you are estimated to be outside that aggro range.
- Works with your current hostile target.
- Can also show AggroRange information on hostile nameplates when you mouse over them.
- The mouseover display continues to work while you are already in combat, allowing you to check nearby mobs before moving closer to them.
- Designed primarily for Classic Era and Hardcore gameplay.
- Uses a simple display intended to provide useful information without adding unnecessary UI clutter.
How AggroRange works
AggroRange combines the range information available through the WoW API with an aggro-range model that has been tested and calibrated through controlled pulls in Classic Era.
Normal proximity aggro in Classic changes depending on the level difference between the player and the mob. AggroRange takes this into account when calculating the estimated aggro boundary.
Testing has been carried out across different player levels, mob levels and zones in Classic Era in order to compare the model against actual in-game pulls.
Limitations
AggroRange provides an estimate, not a guaranteed safe boundary.
Not every hostile NPC behaves according to normal proximity aggro rules. Social aggro, scripted encounters, unusual mobs, stealth and detection mechanics, and other special behaviour can cause a mob to engage differently from the estimate shown by the addon.
This is particularly important in Hardcore. AggroRange is intended to provide additional information when judging a pull or moving around hostile mobs, but it should not be treated as a guarantee that a mob cannot aggro outside the displayed range.
If you encounter a mob that appears to aggro noticeably earlier or later than AggroRange predicts, I would be interested in hearing about it.
